I just got my Apex Zero M yesterday, and here are my thoughts. I LOVE this vacuum, almost as much as I loved my Rainbow that lasted about 20 years! The dirt that was picked up in my house, which is a mix of hardwood floors and carpeting, was AMAZING! The fabulous HEPA filtration kept all of that dust and dirt inside the vacuum, so everything is still clean today!! The hose is quite "tight", so more difficult to work with attachments than I would have preferred, but it's still manageable. (My Rainbow had 2 hoses, one powered and one not, so I never had a problem with using attachments.) I tried using the caddy, but since the hose is so tight and short, I felt limited in using the vacuum so instead ended up just taking the lift away off of the canister and sitting in on the floor, which led to it tipping over constantly. I WISH the attachments could snap on, vs just sliding on the end of the hose!!!! In using attachments in awkward spaces, I pulled them off several times. The flexible brush attachment is very nice, but again, I wish it could be "locked" into position, as I kept flexing it too far in doing the dusting around objects and window blinds. I also wish there were a wider flat brush attachment to go up under my furniture that is on hard wood. I used the small brush attachment, and at some places had to even remove the bristle part from that to get up under the furniture. I may go looking on the internet for something that will work to do what I need under my sofa!! The "appliance" attachment is AMAZING! I was able to get way up under, around, and behind our huge entertainment center for the first time EVER without having to move that 7 foot tall by 4 foot wide monster!! All in all, this vacuum is amazing!! Again, it's not as great as my Rainbow was, but the price tag is significantly better!! Plus, everyone HATED having to empty that water basin out!! It was purely GROSS to see at the end of cleaning!! Someone commented that it's not as good as a Kirby. Well, I had one of those before the Rainbow, and the Kirby is one HEAVY vacuum cleaner. I hated mine, and got the Rainbow to replace it!! This Shark Apex Zero M has a 5 year warranty, so at the price (I bought the whole big package) it will break down to about $80 a year for the 5 years. You can't get anything worthwhile for $80, and I'm hoping that it will last beyond the 5 years!! Although, maybe by then there will be something even more amazing to replace this one with!! Happy Cleaning everyone!!
Dude... I straight up love your reviews of everything you have done. From the different types of vacuums, to the robot vacuums, to Dyson and Honeywell air purifiers. I’m literally going to buy a shark apex right now because I’m a dude with long hair, and my girlfriend and roommate have long hair too. So you can imagine how much freakin hair is around the house. And I’ve searched for so long on what vacuum is best because I have the household duty of cleaning our crappy wireless vacuum of the hair that gets stuck in the roller every other week! But seriously I wish I could consult you on literally everything I buy. I love the way you break down specs and testing of multiple similar products and in different price ranges, and how you keep everything short, precise and to the point. You’re a man of facts and I appreciate that. Thank you and keep up the good work!
Picked one of these babies up from marketplace as my budget was limited but my criteria was high. Between your on point review and the well kept unit I bought, I've done well for myself for $40. Yours reviews are the ones I trust the most and I appreciate your work.
After watching tons of these videos I got the Shark from Amazon renewed for 200 bucks. Renewed is a overstatement, it appeared brand new with all attachments. It works great, the suction is incredible, and it pulled kitty litter out of my high pile carpet that I didn't even know was there. Thank you for these videos!
Awesome. So many bullcrap Amazon review summary robot videos these days, it's rare to find a real person who did real testing. This video was exactly what I needed, an I bought this Shark, and it is in fact AWESOME!!! Thanks Vacuum Wars, excellent job. I subscribed.
Awesome. My husband and my hair is so long plus we have a cat and I would have to brush the carpets before vacuuming always to prevent breaking them. This vacuum sounds awesome
@Cassandra I've had mine over a year now. It works well on both carpet and hard floors. I havent had to pull hair out of the brush roll once! The only thing that I've had to pull out was small patches of cat hair on the rim of the plastic cover. It's easy though--just wipe it away.
I watched most of the videos to pick the best one I needed. All your videos helped and I ended up with the shark apex zero m. I am not disappointed and it’s the best one I’ve every had. I’ve gone through a lot and this by far is the one I will always use. Thanks for all your time in reviews!
You're actually one of my actual favorite persons. I hate consumerism, but I absolutely love knowing what the absolute actual best is. And you find that out, beyond a shadow of a doubt. Thank you.
I love shark products! They are the only vacuums I use for my business. The lift-aways are amazing for residential cleaning! The maneuverability and attachments are next to none! I am hoping shark will come out with a wide path upright soon for commercial use, aside from that keep up the amazing work Shark!
I work for a company that sells vacs and I always considered Shark an 'As seen on TV' gimmick --- until I bought one two years ago. Such a great product. Gonna buy an Apex tomorrow.
I love these videos. I had a cheap vacuum and my allergies were always crazy when I would vacuum. I have pets and I always thought my carpet was clean. When I used this vacuum it picked up so much dirt that I didn't even know was there.
It is the best vacuum I’ve ever used. It picks up dust! Wonderful! It’s heavy and doesn't have a long hose for doing stair, and ceiling fans. Still it gets high praise from me.
The reason the zero m has more power is because the redesign of the cyclone in the bin. This means that if you have the older apex, you can just put the zero m bin and the zero m cleaning head and you basically have a apex zero m.
Man I love your videos - this convinced me to buy this vacuum as I just moved into a new spot with hardwood and carpet, and I’m also looking into getting a dog. Anyways, your videos are straight to the point (only 5:00 minutes) which is awesome. Appreciate your style
Got mine in the mail last week and so far I love it! I had the original NV22 purple shark sweeper and it was good. But wanted some of these upgrades, especially zero-m technology. So far I haven't had any tangles with hair. Very nice! The sound is fantastic as well, not too loud and has nice tone! Final out of the door cost was $344 with the top of the line model with VIP warranty, etc and 6mo no interest using PayPal. The only thing I don't like is I wish they would find a way to hold most of the attachments on the unit. They give two spaces. Wish it had at least 4 to carry the crevice tool, powered brush, dust brush and have an extra open. And I think the power cord is a little shorter than on my NV22 or seems to be when I was putting it away. Haven't had a chance to really check that yet.
I was contemplating on buying Dyson Ball Multi Floor 2 vacuum cleaner and ran through reviews of that product with pros and cons etc... Your review changed all that and I'm sure I wouldn't be disappointed. I also have the rainbow but that's for business use. This one works both ways. I already ordered it and looking forward to use this beauty...
I bought mine at Kohl's. If you apply for a Kohl's card, you get 30% of even if you are denied. If you get approved, it's 35%. I basically got this for under 250$ at Kohl's. I got approved and was able to pay my balance at the register because I didn't know they did this. I got lucky when I went in there and was going to pay cash and the full price for about 420$. I have shopped for this everywhere and Kohl's even beat Amazon on this vacuum.
I got 3 accessories with mine. The basic 12" crevice tool, pet power brush tool (non motorized version), basic upholstery tool (without bristles). I think that's all that comes standard with the machine. Anything else is extra and can be bought on their website.
Great review thanks. I'm a die hard Dyson person, but your stats changed my mind. I do have a Shark steam cleaner for my hardwood floors and love it. So I do like Shark.
We have an old Hoover Wind tunnel (With a bag). It must be about 20 yrs. old and that dinosaur still runs! Although I had to replace most plastic parts thru the years. I had bought other more modern vacuums (including a newer bagless wind tunnel), but my wife refuses to give up on the old Wind tunnel. This thing is very loud and gives my wife the impression that is very powerful. No scientific proof can take har out of it. With that said, although the motor still runs, the plastic parts keep degrading, and is now harder to find parts for it, so I hope this Shark APEX is finally the rightful and final replacement for the old Wind Tunnel. Your review allowed me to convince her to give it a try.
I bought the Apex based on this review, and it is the best vacuum I've ever used. The dual brush and zero M is the best vacuum add-on invention to date. I was a bit worried about how it would handle my wife and daughter's long hair, but it hasn't got any wrapped around the brush roller so far. One thing that bothers me which the reviewer didn't mention is I don't think is the second inner brush comes out. If something ever got stuck behind the brush going into the hose it might be tuff to remove. I wish both brushes could be removed.
Thanks for the review! its good to hear. YEah for some reason on the DuoCleans the main brush isnt easily removable. Probably because the way it integrates with the soft roller is very complicated and they dont want people messing with it.
I bought this vacuum like 2 weeks ago and it’s SOO GOOD... I have 7 dogs and the pet hair is HORRIBLE other vacuums tangle hair but this vacuum... is so good.
Thanks for the clear and very thorough reviews. We have hardwood floors throughout, 2 dogs (one is a CRAZY shedder) and 2 cats. We looked at several of your reviews (as well as others both pos/neg) regarding several different models and finally decided on this SHARK Apex Duo Zero M (Got it for $100 via Amazon). Have only had it a couple of days, but WOW! Your review had me pretty convinced, but our situation left me a little skeptical at the same time. This thing is terrific! Thank you for helping me make the right choice for us.
Great review! I appreciate the detail you put into it. The fact that you have a cleaning business really adds weight to your opinions. You sold me on this one. Thanks!
Thanks for such a great review. I been checking review on different kind of vacuum cleaners. I think after the review you have given on this one I have finally found my vacuum 😊. Thanks so much! You covered everything! Great comments as well about it.
I am buying this immediately. I have long blonde hair, as well as my daughter and we are constantly killing Vacuums with our hair. We shed like a dog, with hair down to the middle of my back. My current vacuum is a Electrolux canister vac that has lasted the longest of any vacuum at about 4 years. But like my other vacuums unfortunately my hair has slowly killed it, so here I am shopping for a new vacuum. I am so excited for this vacuum!
Excellent demo video 👏👏👏 I recently purchased the same Shark Apex Model & I absolutely love it, however, THEY FAILED TO INCLUDE one of my most coveted wants in a full size vac & that's a RETRACTABLE CORD. I have dexterity issues so that's an important feature for someone like myself. I started buying Shark Vacs about 5 years ago & haven't looked back but I keep hoping they will add this feature at some point. A lot of vacs under $100 have self returning cords so I'm not sure why Shark Vacs don't?!?🤷
Oh my gosh thank you so much for doing a video about this! I have a bissell powerlifter currently and, well, it’s gone to poop. I’ve had it for about 4.5 years. Soo I’m vacuum shopping and I think I’m going to get this. Thank you!
Was getting ready to buy a Dyson Animal Ball until I saw this site. Heading out to buy an Shark APEX DuoClean Zero M today!!!! Thank you for your reviews.
I just got this for $199.99 at Bed Bath and Beyond because someone returned it. I used it last night and it's awesome!! I'm used to cheap vacuums so it was so nice. I have hardwood and a big shag area rug. Oh and I have a cat and I have really long hair lol. It's so quiet!!! It's more quiet than my Bissell handheld. As said in this video it is pretty heavy but it's worth it. It worked really good even on my shag rug
So I bought this and it is just like you describe ! Awesome!! I also ordered the shark rocket pet pro cordless for doing light cleanings as a result of watching your video on it too.
I returned a shark nv501 for this vac & am very impressed. It's suction is unlike any other vac I've ever used including big shop vacs. Only issue I have is the hose doesn't extend & is very short. So you must have the vac/canister at your side when using hose. If it was like a dyson hose this vac would be an absolute beast.
For $475 I got the vacuum, true pet upgrade so ALL attachments, a free steam mop and a lifetime warranty with Shark. I suggest going with them. You can get another vacuum for like $175 with the purchase but I have no need. I just learned I have a dust mite allergy. A lifetime warranty is what got me because I'm going to be using this thing potentially 3 times a week.
I like to point out that the Shark Apex Zero M is very sensitive to stringy pieces of wood mulch, Mine stopped working after making a horrendous noise, I had to clean it out as the small strands of mulch worked its way into the brush ends and jammed it up. It works great again, but if you have puppies you might want to keep an old junky vacuum for bigger stuff that falls apart easy! They dont tell you this, but if the Green Light Blinks but nothing moves, it apparently means its jammed!
Mine arrives tomorrow. My old shark has had it and couldn’t keep up with my dogs hair anyway. I hope this one does. I have two half Great Dane half husky and unfortunately they inherited the husky hair. Excellent super smart dogs and I’ll live with hair so a good vacuum is a must and sharks are all I buy usually. That’s what my last two vacuums were and they were good but we wore them out. They didn’t do all this one does. I’m getting it refurbished which I find is best because they have gone through and fixed anything wrong. I do that for most my machines. Sewing, long arms, even my computers. They always last long negative with no issues. On Amazon I paid 150.00
You probably had a faulty Dyson Ball Animal 2. I tested mine at my local vacuum store. It had 79 CFM at the head and 105 CFM at the hose. It also had 114 inches of water of suction.
Nice review!! We just bought a house and we want to replace our Kirby that we've had for about 20 years. It is a workhorse and has been a great vacuum but it is heavy and does not work on hardwood floors without putting on an attachment wich gets all clocked up with dog fur. Thank you for the review. I learned a lot about this vacuum and it looks like for the price it's a great vacuum!!
Was just about to pull the trigger on the Dyson Animal 2, but after seeing this, and your comparison, I'm going with this! I have tile and a cat in my apartment, so the crevice test along with the pet hair roller was particularly helpful. Thanks so much!
Had Sharks for over 15 years various models. I can say with out doubt the Zero M does not come through in the respect of hair tangling, I have tangles often and either pull or cut them off the roller. I also was not too impressed with the deep style cleaning to get out the embedded dirt in carpet. Im sure its because of the front fuzzy roller. I agree that the 352 which is older and the second one I ever bought and still very, very good at deep dirt, however , it gets a lot of tangles in the roller. Im thinking that duo clean units are the best for those with hard floors and throw rugs in their homes. Plain floor like he said duo rollers are bets and carpets stay away from the duo roller type
Do you have a list of vacuums that you recommend that have totally sealed systems? I can't believe more vacuums aren't sealed. What good are all the filters if they just blow dust out.
Thanks just cancelled my order of the dyson multi floor 2 on exchange for this one. Will be using on tile floor and have many pets. I hope it works as well as your video made it out to be!
Ok now let's make this cordless, I don't mind wearing a backpack battery or backpack waste container, but I definitely don't want to deal with cords ugh. That said, I would still get this. Seems amazing that hairs don't get stuck. Wow.
Need suggestions… I’ve been using Shark Apex for ~3 years now. Pretty happy with the performance. Does an excellent job at picking whatever lies in its way. Lately though, I noticed, duo roller system would only start if pushing vacuum forward. I clearly remember that it did work irrespective if I push it forward or pull it back for some extra spot cleaning. Now even on the slightest pull, both rollers would and light will stop. I will have to start pushing it forward for both rollers and light to come on. It is mildly annoying as I have to wait for a couple of seconds as rollers take a couple to get spinning. Looking at some online tips, I thought the belt connecting motor and rollers might be damaged/ broken. On opening the vacuum I was able denounce that. Luckily I was able to put it all back together back together, without any screws to spare, but am back at the same spot. Anyone with similar experience, fixes… kindly share. Please don’t consider this a negative review. I love the vacuum and hence want to fix it. Appreciate any help…
you only check the airflow, you also have to check how much energy they need! --> for example 400W =60cfm or 1000W =90cfm --> the 60cfm is more efficient
Why on earth wouldn’t they include a brush for moldings, etc, with our new "Shark Apex"? Just bought it today, love it so far except..."NO BRUSH". Cheesy! Can I buy a brush? Perhaps that is Sharks' intention, eh? Wonderful review on your part Sir. Nice job.
Great review.. I was looking at the Dyson just cause of the brand name. afyter this review im purchasing the Shark right now. no more looking around for reviews. Thanks for posting.
My daughter spilt glitter on our carpet and the Shark couldn't get the embedded glitter out. I have a Kenmore vacuum and it was able to get it out. My perception of Shark is they are great for bare floors and low pile carpet(like in commercial buildings) but not for medium/high pile carpet.
That test was standardized sometime after this video was made, hence the omission. He did list numbers in another video when comparing against other vacuums. I sadly can't remember what video or what the figure was exactly. But I think it was the mid 90% range. Not terrible, but not an ideal deep cleaner either (there are plenty of uprights that get 100% easy, even bagless ones). I suspect the duo clean head, while really handy, does compromise the air seal against the floor somewhat.
The Shark Apex Zero M AZ1002 got a 98% in the carpet deep clean test (with deeply embedded sand) and the Shark True Pet got a 100%. The other Deep clean + thick carpet test, this Shark got a 100% and the True Pet stalled a couple of times because of thicker pile carpet but was remedied by lowering the suction and received an 80% due to the inconvenience of flipping a button down lmao.
Thank you for the review. One area I’m interested in that you didn’t touch on is emptying the vacuum. I have terrible allergies and typically have to ask my wife to empty our canister vacuum because it’s a mess. If you can take a minute to let me know, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Lovely video as always and very good and the pro’s and cons. My experience of the only Shark I have ever used is my duo clean, flex corded handheld. I’m only going to talk about the main powerhead. I lived the main powerhead, it’s performance is fantastic. The changes you have shown will definitely improve the previous style. The pull back issue I have is the same as yours on Liftaway mode, it sticks to the carpet so well that the rear wheels lift up slightly on pull back, but it’s doing a good job so I will forgive it for that. I have another point. So many users in the UK complain about Shark customer service, the lack of available replacement parts and the cost of the ones they do have. Is this the same over there?
Yes the Flex Duoclean is a good example of the Duoclean system, though not as powerful. I am actually pretty interested in the Shark UK issues. Based on the news I have seen Shark is investing heavily in improving its UK marketshare, and offering more options etc. I dont know if that translates to customer service and parts though. In the US I call Shark all the time to make sure my information is correct on issues not posted on their website (motor size etc) and I have always had a pleasant transaction. We have also had a few occasions to use the warranty and were sent new units with no issues. That being said the fine print is important to read as many things are not covered. As far as parts, Shark parts are generally expensive, much more so than Dyson parts. The are readily available though on pretty much any marketplace though (Amazon.com, Ebay.com, or Sharkclean.com) I know you mentioned the tiny hose in the floor nozzle before, for that kind of stuff (parts of parts) they are not good at all. In fact it has produced an entire cottage industry of people making and selling them, like shark wheels for example.
Shark warranty replacement is horrible. Even if it's their design issue they will outright deny you. 5 yr warranty is useless. It's not same in UK but US as well.
how about the dumping of the dirt or changing of the bag? it's my biggest issue. i mean what is the point to have a hepa filter if you have to open a container and then dump dust and dirt and pollen back into the air? And I've yet to find a bag-less that was easy to dump unless their is weighted dirt and not just pet hair which for me with two pups is actually the biggest issue. the hair stays in the bag-less compartment unless use of vigorous force to jar it loose and into the air goes all that allergens. So, do you have a review on a bagged vacuum?
Greetings from Kentucky...just brought our Duo Clean home, assembled it and turned it loose on our floors. My only concern is the Zero M technology. It doesn't keep pet hair from wrapping around the brush. I've had to cut dog hair twice so that vacuuming could continue. Suction is as reviewed but my Golden Retrievers beat it.
Just sent mine back. 2 Cons to consider. Poor handling on stairs and the power cord is too short. You could also use these reasons for many upright vacuums. I'm more of a canister/backpack fan.
Hi VacuumWars! Happy to have found you! How would you rate this vaccuum against your current top model (Shark Stratos)? Deciding between the two... I found this one new on a one day deal site for $150 but it only carries 90 day warranty... But it's also $150 compared to $400. Decisions decisions!
'Bout to buy one to replace my old windtunnel upright bagged. Ordered a replacement part for it THREE WEEKS AGO and they still haven't shipped it after multiple e-mails and calls. I'm cancelling my order for a 6$ hose and buying a 300$ replacement Apex instead. lol
I bought the Apex DuoClean W/Zero M two weeks ago. I'd show a photo if I could, the no hair wrap feature is over rated. I the vacuum has has hair wrap just like my old dyson. Bummer.
I really enjoy your videos, it helps especially in choosing a vacuum and what to watch for. I am trying to decide between this vacuum the apex zero m, the ion p50 and the ion f80. I'm wondering how they compare. Obviously the apex has much more power and the zero m sounds great, but the conveniency of cordless is very tempting as I like to vacuum my car out often and not have to be tied to an outlet or having to unplug and plug as I change rooms. Wondering if the p50 or f80 still has plenty of power and if the extra power apex will be very noticeable for most people, and the 2 ion's are much cheaper then the Apex. How much difference in power and easy of use between the p50 and f80.
