in this video I want to talk about affordable performance ebike controllers Best bang for the buck fardriver controller and sabvoton controllerND Ebike Factory Store a.aliexpress.c...
Yeah but he will turn into a crybaby once he hears all the ASI criticisms haha...you are right ASI is WAY overpriced for what you get. You can make the same power with a fardriver and save maybe 3 to 400 dollars. Dont tell Chris that..he will throw a fit lol
I like the dock and pool you showed, perhaps more of that type of content as you explain what you did in this video, very fun to watch. Informative and pleasant to watch if that makes sense.
You got it looking good brah! I like how you modified the frame. knowing how to weld is a great skill to have If you know how to use sketch-up, you should design your own bike from the ground up! I would love to see that!
@@E-bikeguy Brother, your talent, and your ideas are not average by any means. You're a natural born engineer! You're missing your calling. GO BACK TO SCHOOL! Someone invest in this man. Great guy! great asset to any company!
Those tires with the highway rib and smaller treads seem to be much more quiet than the Super Swampers you had. I always try to get tires with the center rib because realistically most of my riding is on a road and it doesn’t really hurt off road performance much.
Thanks for the ride bro! I love me some back roads, that’s why I need more range. Lol going to upgrade battery before controller. 80a is enough for now, and btw, I was born with a wooden spoon 😁. If you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way!!
Y’all should throw a e-bike rider meetup at that old dock. Get volunteers to do some pool cleaning and overall cleaning up and do like a meetup for the local riders.
I have a Engwe Engine Pro Upgraded model, I plan on getting the Frankenrunner_L10 Controller for my bike. Then get a 60v or 72v battery. That will be phase 2 of my bike.
I do rc cars and I’ve really wanted to find more info about controllers and if you can program them. The e-bikes that are for sale are nice but I want to build my own. I want to do like 30mph but I want to do 100+ on the range. I’m a bigger guy around 280 but losing weight. It’s honestly pretty hard to find info and you helped me a lot.
Love what ya doing and we definitely needed this topic. Thanks, but question, which controller do you think could be the best that still offers a peddle assist? Somehow I still love the feeling of the pedal assist over the throttle. But I'm assuming over a certain power level, it isn't even offered
Please be more careful, then be extra careful : additionally, those abandoned places may be abandoned for more reasons than the economy. Great information & conversation, looking forward to future updates.
I think you can fix the wheel imbalances. On those larger 4 inch tires you have to lay them down on their sides and air them up slowly. There’s so much mass to them that they will bunch up in one area. Laying it flat lets it distribute the air evenly distribute and helps reduce the chances of it having a lot of rubber mass at the bottom.
Good video. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Building 8000 watt 72v 150amp 54 ah bike that could put out 200amp bms. Was debating if I should swap out the controller in the future. Or if 150amp will be fine. Also tip as I do same in videos micro cut the ums out. It’s normal so don’t take it as bad thing as your speaking your mind vs a script.
Yes lol I will it's a habit lol, I'll go with a sabvoton 200a so that your not restricted just a 150a even tho you battery can handle 200a you won't regret it in the future
@@E-bikeguy All good I am guilty of it too will make videos flow better. Good to know i just didnt know if the 50amp would be worth going to or not gonna test the 150amp for now then swap to 200amp as I would have to drill new holes into my seat for bigger speed controller
What I'm wondering is: Are aftermarket controllers plug and play? I mean, no fancy programming, just match the plugs and input your bike attributes in the parameters menu.
yeah, I can’t wait to modify mine. I just got my first E bike with a 500 W motor is a speedrid 26 inch 4.0 fat tires there’s so much information on this. I don’t know nothing about controllers, batteries or what the hell I’m doing.😂
My brother..🙋 You put me in thoughts to change my controllers with fardrive ( front motor 84450 rear motor 84680)... Of course because we are in the same side about work and money..😁 i hope next 6 months can change them....
Good thoughts my friend 🍻I think ASI rode the sur-ron hype wave and were able to get away with higher prices due to the demand. Sabvoton, Fardriver and Kelley have been consistent with offering reasonable prices for reliable programmable controllers. I've never had an issue with many sabvoton builds.
Right on bro 💯 there's really no reason to go with a fardriver or a sabvoton controller. Great value and the fardriver controller can match or even beat a ASI controller 😀
@@E-bikeguy I’m riverview, but out in Lakeland every sat Sunday off us 98. Just trying to figure out what controller I should be buying and what I should spend. With a 72 volt 36ah battery
I'm looking for new forks and front wheel, all I can think about at 40mph is that quick release spindle. Plus I want to run fatter tyres, just want air forks but minimum 36mm stantoins
@@E-bikeguy yeah I bought a expensive front tyre and it took a few hundred miles to get in shape, running high pressure and then low pressure, use to drive me nuts, felt like a buckled wheel, but I have just bought a jeep patriot to carry my bike rack and man it's sucking my money and parts in the UK are expensive
@@chubbswithhubsHi Chubbs, UK here also (West Yorks) I've just ordered some Schwalbe marathon tyre to put on my ebike build (starting build maybe tomorrow if tyres arrive, everything else has come, 1500w48v Voilamart rear hub, with 52v20ah battery) your comments got me worried the tyres will take some running in, they're only 26" 1.50 tyres though, they're about as thin as they come I think, cheers. All the best, happy e-biking fellow brit!
E-bike guy, I upgraded my hub with a 2000 watt hub motor replacing the 750 watt hub. I’m running into the issue of my 7 speed cassette is too wide. Do you suggest a 3 speed system or 5 speed? The 7 speed cassette is way too wide and I can’t center the wheel with that 7 speed on there. It did come with one speed on it from Amazon. I hope I have to keep it one speed lol. Thx love your videos.
Love this channel bro! I picked up a used MTB that has a 1500watt ebikeling rear hub 48volt setup. Any recommendations outside of a battery upgrade? I think my controller can handle 52volt no problem. It’s the stock controller. Thanks from NC!
@@E-bikeguy sweet! I do a lot of hard off road riding and trails. Would I be at risk of burning anything up with the mod? I just don’t want to compromise reliability. Thanks!
Hey e-bikeguy i was hoping i could ask a few questions, and maybe get some tips on a good reliable 72v battery for my e bike, unfortunately havent finished my build yet!!. I got a sabvoton 150 controller and a qs v3 205 hub motor. Ive been interested in finishing it soon. do you think i should give a go at building a battery? or buy one? also kinda curious what would be compatible. Thanks for making all these sweet ebikes.. and the videos
To save some money and you want a good battery, build it yourself, I recommend molicel 21700 p42a they the best in my opinion 20s 9p will be great for 387 amps and 37ah lol
that will be a good size for a 5000w motor and 150 amp sabvoton? im definitely interested in the higher quality and not too intimidated with building one with all the resources out there.@@E-bikeguy
As far as updating a stock 48v ebike, do you need to change rear hub motor also ? Just looking to increase pick up acceleration .. I understand you take risks on long term lifespan and voids warranty. Willing to take that risk for fun 😊...Thanks
I'm so tempted to start upgrading my wired freedom it's 60v 20ah battery 40ah controller 2000 watt pek gearhub motor I have had it up to 41mph but 35mph is top speed most of the time. I have to be on a highway for about a half mile at night and early morning so a little more speed would be great. I don't know if I should try to push the motor harder with a controller I can grow with or gut the bike and rebuild 45mph or 50mph would probably be good enough but once I start I don't think I stop till I'm scared of it or run out of money 😅
Lol yes🤣 I feel ya there 💯 sabvoton 7280 will be a good choice without putting too much stress on the motor and battery 45mph will be possible with that controller.
1200 watt 72 volt Enduro Had the bike for almost 2 years now. Can you tell me how many months to go back to a video of you building batteries? I'm guessing I've got three or four cells that aren't good anymore. Need to test them find them replace them or build a new batt. I was too heavy on the throttle at first, I have mellowed out a bit. Are the settings too high in voltages so it can fry batteries. Also tonight I was driving home and it started cutting out, 72 strong volts and no throttle. Crazy, turned off back on and I was able to drive home. Got home give it more throttle and it cut out again. Off- on I had throttle, and I pushed it into the garage. I do realize, I'll study the sabaton, find the inputs and find which input is not there. I definitely appreciate any help you can give my friend. Keep riding on with good knowledge buddy, for knowledge is power 🙋
@@E-bikeguy I know what you're talking I lost my first drone because I wasn't balance charging a 3 cell😮. Was cutting out when I was not accelerating, I was thinking a loose wire somewhere cuz it was cutting out on bumps when I first noticed it., I could just barely sense it The only other possibility that you said is if I had many dead cells. I always stored it at 60% Charge but the spring it only charged to 83.3 volts, the lowest charge I've seen it was 83.6 I've got some work the sabaton controller, works but it doesn't go very far through the menu. Last fall I tried to reprogram it but I couldn't connect to it. Do you have any good videos out there on troubleshooting batteries, replace cells. Thanks 🙋
Thats one hell of a bike dude! Im looking to build my own bike on a stealth bomber frame. Goal is to push it to 20kw (or more if possible) with a Fardriver or a BAC8000 controller and a QS273, however im kinda stuck on the battery... I dont have the equipment nor the knowledge to build my own battery, do you have any suggestions about my build and/or what to look for when buying a battery? Cheers and keep up the vids :)
If you want raw power, go with fardriver, the BAC has more features but also more complex and you need to buy it directly from asi or you will be begging for login password just to access your controller, on the battery get the molicel p42a and go 20s 14p good enough for 630 battery Amps
Expert's >> you gotta be "All That" on a myriad of different topics to build these bikes & I'm new but I'm diggin' what you cats is doing here..... did you guys take a bike frame & redo it to hold the battery & front forks? Being able to do that part alone takes a lot of skills but you've done the work that goes into the bike build & considered it all. I'm with you now as I want one but I'm not paying the prices for the crap I see out there ! I'd rather have an ugly arsed bike that sH!Ts -n- giTs than a pretty one that's slow. peace & be safe out there! GB ALL
Why thank you my friend 💯 yes basically its a ebike conversion kit that I had custom made through my supplier and made the battery to fit my frame I love to share my knowledge into building this and other ebikes thank you for this awesome comment 😀

I am building a cart with 2-12 volt 35ah batteries. it will only go 3-4 mph. What's a good affordable reliable 24v brushed motor controller? I've looked at those cheap e-bike kits on ebay but don't know how dependable they are.
Wondering why you don't use a bms with Bluetooth ? If you did you would know the temperature in the battery , I've started using them in all my li-ion packs , its a great piece of mind knowing just hoe hot things get in that battery.
I couldn't have agreed with you more. I follow RU-vidrs and ride with people on really nice ebikes but mine was bought from alibaba which I then upgraded through alibaba. Went from 48volt 750watt to 60volt 2000watt and I spent less than a grand on the bike and upgrades. Now I have and ebike that has so much power off the line and speed that the battery only last 10 miles.
were do i buy lipos for a spare battery aswel as my 52v, Would like a spare but i seen some people have a backpack full of lipos? How are they connected ? Any help please
Great video...I got a stealth bomber clone 5000w with a 72v30ah battery...the bike does like 45mph I want to do like 55 or more...my bike got a sabvoton 150....should I get a fardriver to do more power..?
Loving your vids man!! I've ordered a voilamart 1500w 48v kit but I've ordered a triangle battery that's 52volt 20Ah.... From what I've gathered the rear hub kit should easily handle the 52v 20ah battery, my main concern is the controller, I know little about them other than to check the capacitors/mosfets can handle the voltage/ampage so im hoping the controller will be ok if I do a shunt mod and just add a small amount of solder.. I've watched your vids(and others) about the shunt modding and I'm aware that adding too much solder or bridging the shunts together can be overkill and may well fry the controller components... So far my build is all ordered and Im just waiting on delivery, bloody useless Yodel have screwed up my hub kit delivery just yesterday/today so now ive to wait till monday for it to arrive, but its no problem as the battery wont come till after anyway (even though i ordered it the day before ordering my kit, but its coming from germany so it will take a while). In a month or so I'll most likely get a better controller (when money allows) as the total package of the kit/battery/schwalbe tyres etc has come to just over £658 (which I think is pretty reasonable). I chose the Schwalbe 'marathon' tyres as I'm terrified of getting a blowout at 30mph+ (I'm hoping the bike will do 30/35mph) and the 2 tyres + rim lining tape came to £56 so I think it's worth paying the bit extra for peace of mind... I'm going to look into 'sabvoton' & 'fardrive' controllers as I can afford maybe £200 tops to get a better controller, or maybe I'll have to settle with the cheaper shunt mod idea. Thanks for the effort and time you put into your vids, your a real man's man who makes proper vids that appeal to us guys who dont have a $#!t tonne of money to spend in our pursuit of ebike happyness!!!
Heck yeah 💯 and thank you, you should be fine with that controller on 52v just keep in mind that the battery voltage will be different on the display if it only reads 48v and the controller low voltage cut off also so make sure you don't drain the battery all the way down if you have a 52v battery on a 48v system but if the battery have a good bms in it then you will be fine because if it's a good one the bms will prevent battery damage at low voltage
@@E-bikeguy Do you recommend putting that Statorade stuff in the motor too? I won't be going too far on my rides and I'm gunna check the hub when it arrives to see if the spokes are tight etc, and also check / file (if needed) the spokes on the inside of the rim, I've ordered some rim tape to put on it too, just to be on the safe side... Geez, I always forget something, just realized I'll be best to order a decent enough pump to keep the air up in the tyres too, thanks again 'cos the advice is really appreciated, which do you think is the best controller for say around £200 max 'cos I'd like to extract as much torque as possible due to all the damn hills over here in West Yorkshire, U.K... Oh, and I'll be careful not to drain the battery, I had an ebike years ago (250w 24v Cyclamatic Power plus, loved it!) and I always rode out on a full charge. Many thanks from over the pond, stay cool!
Nice tyres Ebikeguy! hey man, Yet another problem another question... got new throttle new controller. Battery fully charged and throttle with lcd volt gauge turns on and shows 54v motor did spin backward and I disconnrcted self learning wires and reconnected again... I had to do it about 4 times before the rotation changes and when was workingall right I disconnected everything for wire managment and then motor not spinning, I cheched throttle is working and sending signal but the motor seems to not receiving electricity at least not from 3 phases wires, if anyone have a suggestion I'll be happy to hear it . this is puzzling me ...HELP Cheers
Any Venture Capitalists in here????? Ain’t no way this man should be working a 9 to 5ver (unless he just wants to). He should be CEO of the next e-bike company that’s going to manufacture to his specs and knowledge.
@@E-bikeguyPhaserunner and Baserunner are ASI controllers.ASI controllers are more suited to higher engineering standards for motor controllers like motors on a space station. Hello! I'm having problems with my controller I think. I just recently purchased a new motor which is a 48v 1500w. (My previous motor is the same however the wires have been torn up) When I turn it on. The display turns on but the throttle doesn't do anything and the wheel won't spin at all AND it's not able to recognize the Bluetooth USB adapter as well. So it CANT be the motor since it's pretty much brand new. I'm thinking the controller Bricker itself somehow? I do remember the red wire on the came loose in one of those 5 wire cables. But I'd shove it in and out. When I put it back in. It would work and the wheel would spin But now. The display turns on but nothing. Doesn't spin the wheel and throttling it does nothing. Coukd you perhaps help me?
I live in China and upgrade my own e-bikes, I have two bikes one with a 72530 and anther with a 841800 far driver controller. but I can’t find anyone who knows exactly how to tune far driver controllers. I can tune the basics which most people here know, but the specifics like how to make the speedometer and brake regeneration I have no idea how to do it and I’m afraid to try and mess something up . Is there any website will a full user manual in English?
maybe someone can help me out. I got a venom x vader 2000w ( BD578Z) the battery is a 72v what would be the best controller to reach around 55mph? should be here next week
Hey buddy , I finally got my Ebike built - it’s 7260a Sabvoton with QS205 motor - it’s juddering from 0 start and giving me a 02H code ( over current) and goes into protect mode ! But if I go easy on throttle it wont cut out - my BMS is 80a - any help would be great man
Also check that your phase terminals are completely tight. Actually had this happen last week and motherf*cked my whole bike apart and back together only to find a phase terminal wasn't fully tight.
Maytech, flipsky, vesc are cheaper and much lighter The very high end ev use inverters and constant voltage /current power supplies, this is what ASI does basically but for way too much money
I am researching the Flipsky 75100 to replace a 15a controller in my ebike because its so tiny and will fit without any modifications. But I’m learning its not exactly a direct swap for a standard ebike controller. Notably the ignition, high and low brake, it doesn’t seem to be waterproof, and not sure something so tiny can dissipate heat well. I have an ANT BMS which i can use in place of the ignition switch, and seems like there are enough ADC channels for conventional throttle and brake (maybe even variable regen like Sabvoton and some others have). I can add a phone holder with USB to use as the display, and I guess I can make a few profiles for speed 1-2-3 or at lease “illegal” and “oh no its the popo” to set amps and rpm limits back to legal as I roll up to a check point. Lol I do like that VESC Tool and how it can also detect the theoretical current limits of the motor. Not that anyone follows it but it would be nice to see what my 2500w motor is really rated at. I need to dig into my wiring to see what feeds the headlight and tail light, because the battery cables only go into the controller and then 100 wires comes out going everywhere. Lol
Sabvotons are not the controllers they used to be. Like you, I've had a couple fail for no apparent reason. Sabvoton finished a few years ago and are now copies. The fets are now inferior to how they were
@@E-bikeguylol that one I fixed blew again.. Going to bite the bullet and get a Fardriver 72530. Just to make sure will this be pretty easy to setup with the qs205?
