Chickpea flour has long been my favorite vegan egg substitute. It’s perfect for baking, for battering and breading fried foods, for making vegan omelets, and now, it’s the perfect protein-packed egg-quivelant for your one-the-go breakfast. The recipe featured in this video is a knockoff of a classic bodega-style breakfast sandwich, served on a burger bun with gooey melted cheese and your breakfast meat of choice.

I've had this idea for a series that I want to call "It Came from the Vegan Pantry!", where I talk about a single ingredient and all of the cool things that you can do with it. Monson Made This so...I am not vegan but I try vegan recipes with the intention of becoming vegan... eventually. I think your idea is a great one! Not only are there dry ingredients but there are plenty of fruits and vegetables I am unaware of. Jackfruit, hearts of palm, and many more plant based foods I would like to learn HOW to use. Check out my Jackfruit Chilorio Tacos video for my favorite way to use jackfruit. You could change the flavor profile, but the technique works well. Oh! And the Hawaiian Plate Lunch video as well has a good technique. They both require a two-step process, but I think its important to get the right texture. At Indian groceries chickpea flour is called Besan.

I've seen both gram and basan I live in an area in nj with a large Indian and Bangladesh community and even my local Costco has gram flour from time to time

I watched this, and I got up off the couch and made it. It was so easy. And, at least on a sourdough bread, with humas, vegan cheese, top with tomato slices, it was very good! It's going onto my fast snack making list.

Awesome! I'm honored that my video inspired you to act in the moment. Honestly, the way that I came up with this recipe was by watching someone on TV make a similar sandwich using egg, and I was like, I wonder... The rest is history!

God's Workmanship There is a Vegan Egg product that you can make Scrambled Egg or Omelettes from that has identical taste and texture to Bird Eggs. It’s called ‘Just Egg’ and comes in a liquid in a bottle, when people were given free samples in the street everyone said the same, that they couldn’t tell the difference. Also do you know what you are eating with Fish?. They contain high amounts of pesticides, herbicides, Mercury, Dioxins, and Micro Plastics, that’s apart from the Cholesterol and other fats that are really bad for us Herbivorous Humans.

Don’t pass on black salt! It’s delicious and comes from the Indian grocery. Adds the sulfery note that says “egg.”

I just tried this recipe and it turned out AMAZING! Much better than i expected. I did follow the recipe exactly.and the batter was a little wet so I added another tsp of chick pea flour and it came out perfect!

Of all the egg replacement options for baking I never heard of using chickpea flour. That’s good to know. I knew you could make omelette/quiche type dishes with it.

I made this today. So quick and so good! I have been struggling and have been frustrated about what to make/take to work for breakfast. This satified my craving for an egg sandwich. I have one of the hamilton beach egg sandwich makers and I am going to try and make it in that, too. Thank you!

@@MonsonMadeThis It works!!! 4 to 4.5 minutes. You do need to spray the bottom piece that the mixture sits on. I prefer this method. They came out softer.

I also tried it with 1/2 tsp of baking powder. It doubled in size and was so fluffy! I wonder if I could make veggie burgers in it???

You're correct! I've used an Isa Chandra recipe a few times with great success. When I fed it to my partner, he couldn't even tell the difference!

Thank you. So many people are still suggesting that I use it even though I say in the video that I'm not a fan. Some people really love it, though. It's just for me. It literally smells like rotten eggs. On purpose. I don't get the appeal... I don't need it to taste THAT much like eggs. HAHA. You may love it, though. Don't not try it because I'm not a fan.

It’s 11:30 pm I love this. We bought Just Egg 6 months ago and I was bummed using canola oil. Bad stuff!!! But once in a while hubby dug having an omelette. Haven’t eaten eggs for 40 years. He loves this egg substitute. We have used Nutritional Yeast for 50 years (yes we’re old🤣). Nutritional yeast is a great source of B12. Love what you make and thank you for sharing your abilities. 🙏

I just made this. It was good! I skipped the oil, but mine was a tiny bit dry, I'll try adding the oil next time. I added Vivolife moz shreds, which added some fat and taste. I will definitely try adding a slice of plant-based faux meat next time. I bought a big bag of chickpea flour a couple months ago for a recipe, and now I know what I can use it for other than thickening soups. Thanks!

The oil helps to keep it moist for sure. Also, maybe cook it a bit less... All microwaves are different, so that's why I did this in 30 second increments. Reducing the time should help keep it a bit more hydrated. It's such a cool ingredient. I have even made gravies and sauces with it.

I've used the juice from the chickpea can before to make baked goods. Great idea to use the flour to cook and bake with. Thanks for posting this video. Very helpful and inspiring. I hope you're staying safe. #staysafestayinside

The chickpea is magical. The "aquafaba" is great for baking as well, but I find when I need a bit more structure, chickpea flour and water works really well. Give it a go! Thanks for watching.

Like the way you explain stuff... I'm trying to find a tasty egg sub as I've grown allergic to them... But love them. Not a vegan but it seems all egg sub recipes are. And too many are done by people that don't even know what eggs taste like. Thats funny. Wife is looking for chick pea flower and black salt today. Thank you!

I fluctuate... But this video was filmed after having been going to the gym almost 6 days a week for about 8 months. I was putting in a lot of work until all of the gyms closed. I've definitely been enjoying the vegan junk food while confined. Can't wait to get back to my routine.

Ten minutes before our local Woolworths closed last night they brought out a pallet of toilet paper. I was pretty happy with going to the shops late. But it gets better... You see, the only flour I could find was chickpea flour, so I grabbed two packets not knowing how to use it. Now I've seen this I know exactly what I'm about to do with it. Lovely 👍🏻 Last week I made a “quiche” using chickpea flour as the base of the dish, and added finally chopped onions, broccolis, mushrooms, and red bell peppers to the batter. I tried that with a crust and second time crustless. Both turned out yummy. Thanks for this vegan sandwich suggestion.

Monson Made This I couldn’t live without it. I am so “last minute” on everything I could that I would never get to eat if I couldn’t thaw in the microwave. Sink thawing takes too long. Plus, popcorn!

That's a good question... Maybe? I think it's worth a show if you've got a recipe handy... Just sub in 1/4 cup chickpea flour plus 1/4 cup water for each egg. It might not fool anyone, but it might turn out great.
