"For no other reason than that life is supposed to be hard for vegans" is the funniest thing I've ever heard. Nothing like a "WHY WOULD THIS HAVE MILK IN IT??" moment during every shopping trip
really cool of you guys to include vegans in the gear reviews, whilst I go in for leather and burgers and whatnot, still pleasing to see people aren't getting left behind
I don't require vegan kit for myself, but I appreciate the time and effort put into this. Thanks for making an informative video to help conscientious folks out.
This is SO awesome!! I've been a Vegan for almost a decade and have been riding for nearly that long, and this is the first video I've seen on the subject of Vegan motorcycle gear. Kudos Fortnine!
Would be really stoked to see a 2018 version of this because all of this stuff is no longer available. Bonus if you highlighted more of the cruiser gear (I obviously fit the bearded crowd) Thanks for posting this!
I'm sure vegan motorcyclists are in the extreme minority but I'm one of them and subscribed. Thanks you guys it can be a bitch to weed out textiles for their sustainably when you have two kids vieing for all your attention. I sincerely appreciate this vid.
JustOutRiding no hate, but cows are getting killed for the meat (i get why you don't eat it) so why not make sure the cow did not die for nothing and get something usefull out of it?
It's good to support a segment of the market that is moving in a sustainable direction. Not that all "Vegan" textiles are produced in a environmentally friendly way. I guss ultimately it's just about raising awareness of the impact of the current, and potentially future, agribusiness model.
tinodedino I get your point but it's not about the meat it's about the mass farming and slaughter for human comfort. In a vegan mindset it doesn't matter what it's killed for, it matters that its killed.
If you are vegan join the facebook group "vegan bikers worldwide" where we regularly discuss and keep track of vegan riding gear. If you are not vegan watch "earthlings" here on youtube.
Can you make a 2018 Vegan gear video? I cant find those scheme gloves anywhere and am having a very tough time finding vegan riding gloves.... CE certified gloves would be awesome
I don't understand why this channel doesn't have much more views and subscribers. Your videos are well prepared, very well edited and these informations are good for a broad spectrum of motocyclists. Keep up the good work!
Awesome video Ryan! I've been veg for 19 years and love riding motorcycles. I've had to get creative with some things but it hasn't always been easy. Last year, I got the Spidi Wake EVO textile gloves which aren't bad but I'm keen to try the Alpinestars Scheme gloves you mentioned. Last year I also inherited an Aether jacket (the AStars Durban looks nice and I also like the Rev'it Windsor). I also just got a pair of TCX Pro 1.1 EVO boots (now discontinued?). Pants are next. Cheers from Ottawa, eh! Here's a list I found last year of some other vegan gear: Winter Weather Gloves (waterproof): Firstgear Kathmandu Gloves Dainese Clutch EVO D-Dry Gloves Waterproof Gloves: Rukka Virium Gore-Tex X-Trafit Gloves 3-Season Warm Weather Riding Boots (not waterproof): Alpinestars Ridge 2 Air Boots Alpinestars Roam 2 Air Boots SIDI Tour Air Boots All Season Waterproof Boots: SIDI Fast Rain Boots SIDI Tour Rain Boots Alpinestars Gunner WP Boots Alpinestars Roam 2 WP Boots SIDI Traffic Rain Boots Off-Road/Dirt Boots (not waterproof): TCX Pro 1.1 EVO Boots TCX X-Blast Boots TCX X-Helium Michelin Boots TCX Comp EVO Boots TCX Comp EVO Michelin Boots
Can we please get a 2020 update? Also great channel. Super informative and fun. As someone looking to get into ridding this has become my go to channel.
Thank you so much for this!! I'm vegan, and this has been a really important consideration to me while getting gear. Y'all are the best, I hope y'all make an update! 💜🐮🐴🦝🐔🐱
Check out what it's made from though guys synthetic leather is so horrible environmentally given its a plastic at its core. Your call but... My view is responsible use of a resource buy using as much of the animal as possible is better than the environmental damage of the plastics
You guys have such well thought out content, I really appreciate it as a beginner to motorcycling. Have you considered making a video detailing what to check when buying a used motorcycle? Tires, brakes, etc? Any tell tale signs of abuse or neglect?
I honestly thought I would be wasting my time trying to find vegan gear, so I bit my tongue and bought whatever I found on clearance at the time of gearing up. This video gives me hope for my next gear expenditure though. Thank you so much.
Always amazed at how people who kill animals are so offended by people who don't. Makes no sense. Good video, Ryan, but it's disappointing to see the quality of your viewers show here in the comments.
Do you blame them? vegans andd vegos are just as bad as other minority groups when it comes to having members trying to shove their choice down other peoples throats. Not saying all but a fair few do
trapper9998 Whose throats are they shoving their choices through? Vegan buyers are a market worth exploring, and that video is about consumer choice in said market. If you are against it I think you are the one trying to force your point of view. If you, like myself, aren't vegan (which I assume you are not) just ignore the video and carry on. No need to be a jackass about it.
It's only shoving when you don't agree with them. Would you insist a gay person was shoving their beliefs down your throat for saying that homosexuality should be accepted? Would you insist a women was shoving her beliefs down your throat for demanding equal treatment to men? Or do you only insist that an opinion is being forced because it isn't within your realm of morality and is not conventional?
I'm not offended, but they don't let me kill my own animals very often.. damn outsourcing. As someone who's usually used sythetic gear it does sound kinda funny hearing it called vegan gear though lol
thanks for sharing. when you visit motorcycle forums the casual reply towards the question for this kind of clothing is actually really " hey, you´re not supposed to eat this things !" :-) btw: i back in the days when i started kinda waking up to my compassion towards other earthlings and became this v..thing-ish ,-) i found out that leather sadly in the far most cases isn´t "just" a byproduct of "hamburgers". and in the places where they "produce" leather, well, you get pixeled videos.... . :-O Greetingz \m/ and ride safe, Marius
I know this video is nearly five years old now but really appreciate you guys covering this. Even in 2022, it’s incredibly difficult to find vegan gear!
it's very unfortunate to be in this extremely small minority, but I find buying used (but good quality) gear from other people can work.. sure it's still leather but the product was already bought and would otherwise go to waste.. this shit saves lives so I ain't gonna get too hung up on what I'm wearing, rather I'll just insure it dont buy it first hand..
Fucking yes. You are the best motorcycle channel on youtube, but i would always watch the gear videos and wonder if this video would ever come. I only found about it now but better late than never. Thank you so much
I love you for this. I've watched a good amount of your videos but never subbed. Now you're my favorite moto youtuber. And the gloves alone made this vid.
Ill admit that while i am not vegan, i do enjoy the idea of having gear that is made from materials that don't come from animals. I'm also glad you guys went out of your way to service the vegan riders out there, really makes me feel like you're really listening to the viewers, even the ones that don't get a lot of representation.
Great video. Been vegan over 2 years and still wear my old leather but trying not to buy any new leather. You just earned another subscriber and greater respect.
lol! :-) You mean this guy? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrik_Baboumian On a side note: if you need a lot of strength to steer your bike, you're doing it wrong.
*+Nick I.* Before that he was a vegetarian though, not to mention that he broke his old records after becoming a vegan. Am I implying that going vegan will make you stronger? No, however it won't make you weaker either... which is what a lot of uninformed people believe. It's just a diet.
Surprisingly and unfortunately the food industry and the leather industry are not affiliated! Mcdonalds cows aren't wallet cows. I'm not a vegan by any means but even I've got to admit that is wasteful!
I'm surprised more gear isn't made of more synthetic (or manufactured) leather. Just because of ease of producing it and you can sell it at volume at lower prices, thus more buyers. Cool list.
Love your honest reviews, the part about other materials (not like kevlar) fusing to your skin, thats just stuff people don't think about or even talk about, really good information and important to know about.
Looking for vegan options. Dont want to harm any animal to protect my skin. I am planning to upgrade my boots, gloves, jacket . In short everything 😁 As this video is 2 years old, do we have any new options available or shall I go for Alpinestar Kevlar scheme only.
Thanks for making this video! Unfortunately the Scheme gloves are old and discontinued. For a 2017 gear guide, you should look a little harder and gives us more options, real options, please!
This is a great video. Any chance of an update please! A lot has happened in the last 7 years yet there are I few useful videos on RU-vid. We now have companies like Bison offering full race suits that are non leather and track approved and Andromeda do the Meteor gauntlet style gloves that I think might even be level 2 ce rated. It would be both useful and interesting to see what you guys can find. Thanks!!!
I became veggie a little over a year ago and I must admit I didn’t even think about this subject until now. It seems like a bit of a dilemma as leather is so integral to bike safety gear. I’m guessing that vegans are pretty much excluded from trackdays or racing until a viable, accepted alternative comes along. Which could be a long, long time away if the demand isn’t there.
Man you need more subs..Every vid you make it quality. No bullshit reviews that are straight to the point. Never knew this field of gear existed, but still a great vid
I'm sorry to say, but the Sidi X-3 is NOT vegan in 2020. According to Alpinestars Facebook messenger support the Tech 5 and Tech 10 are leather free, but I've found sources saying that the Tech 5 uses bycast leather. Would LOVE to get an 2020 update on this one, Ryan!
Great video as any other video you make . You are absolutely my favourite youtube source when comes to motorcycle gear ! www.alienmoto.se/product.html here some information for you square heads that believe leather is the answer . It is not ! it is heavy, stinks , does not breathe and not waterproof . It is only but cheap . I get it you don't care about other sentient beings , and I am not going to judge anyone here about that ,but to say leather is superior in performance it is inaccurate .
Is it weird that I'm hungry now? Seriously, good vid and good on you guys for doing this one up in reply to the inquiries 👍. I have my eye on a pair of Sidi boots at some point.
Thank you Ryan for this, for the sake of giving people the opportunity to live by their conscience, and care for that. In the case of motorcylcle gear, it's so difficult for vegans, it's nice that experts dive into the subject. I'm an old-fashionned leather-clad biker (though my jacket is 17-years old), then again I believe it's good to be animal-free when possible and, most of all, I like that people be able to live by their beliefs and standards. Good Karma on you!
Hi, you should really check the gear from alienmoto from sweden. I just found them and think they are great especially for those who are looking for leatherlike suits, They also got gloves, boots, jeans etc. and everything is 100% VEGAN
Moooooooo. Sadly, as far as usability goes goes -real leather or mixture of it is still the best as far as breath-ability, sizing/stretching and especially protection goes. I'd snatch the alienmoto if it wasn't 1200€ a pop, can get Alpinestars for more than half the price. Good cause though, another great and informative video.
If it doesn't already exist you should do a review of gear for tall, skinny lanky people. like my jacket fits my torso perfectly but when I grab my handlebars the sleeves move 5+ inches from my gloves. Also maybe gloves for people with long fingers (not fingerless)
As a vegan in India and a motorcyclist, it is infuriating to find good vegan gloves and boots. My leather gloves which I bought 6 years ago much before turning vegan finally require replacements. Hopefully like many fast food chains, motorcycle gear manufacturers start bringing more vegan options.
You guys are champs. It's much more difficult than you think to avoid leather altogether when buying motorcycle gear.I had already subscribed, but this video really made me appreciate you to a whole new level.Thank you!
Ok, pretty wack, the gloves on this video are old and discontinued. Try looking for the Spidi Square, Spidi g-flash or the aStars Spartan, really good no leather options, actually better the the ones proposed by Bryan (even if they still existed)
What was the name of the special material called in the Sidi boots, techno-micro? I run a vegan leather store called foeleather.com. I would like to learn more products with the material and possibly find suppliers. Any keyword suggestions?
Mechanix (TAA M-Pact 3, and MPact 3 covert), and HexArmor make great non specific motorcycle gloves. They are more resistant to abrasion and last way longer.
Anyone know where you can get the Alpinestars Scheme Kevlar Gloves in the states? It seems like they're on clearance everywhere and only have XXXL left and FortNine won't ship to the US. Do love the videos though.
Is there a vegan motorcycle suit? I'd appreciate if you know about it and, in that case, is the protection enough in things go wrong?? I know that Alien Motor made one but I have not info. about its qualities. Thanks!
Interesting choice on the icon jacket. I know my overlord textile jacket is "100% polyester shell and lining" according to the label, yet the same label also says "contains non textile parts of animal origin" and I have no idea what part those would be.
Thanks for this great video. I picked up a pair of the scheme gloves which are great for the summer months. I am looking for a good pair of serious adventure boots and was looking at sidis crossfire 2 srs boot. As far as I can make out it is one of the best and vegan. Can you look into to it? Thanks again for helping us vegan adventurers out.
Good video, very helpful. I agree though that 2% or even a badge made of leather is too much, though. As it all comes from cruelty and suffering. So I'd pass on those.
Thanks for the video. However do you happen to know any cold weather vegan gloves with the bigger wrist coverage? I am looking for a pair but can't find any options in India.
