Do you agree that "Cinematic" Settings just mean getting your shots to look great with the proper exposure, correct white balance, and understanding frame rate? Or is there more to it? Let me know! :) Free Filmmaking Course Playlist: geni.us/g8dIM Travel Film Kit: geni.us/KFY9Zs
Wait a second. If you're in Europe you should use 25 instead of 24 frames because of the artificial lights here. I ask myself if I have to use a 25p timeline as well when shooting in PAL...and cinematic is what looks best in my opinion. You can also break rules if it makes a shot better. But yeah, sticking to rules always help.
Thanks for clearing that up for so many people, understanding exposure, lighting, and frame rates is king. It's tough to cover cinematic filming when you're just doing gear reviews. I love the change of pace and how you're showing your film-making chops now. Kill that "gear is king" mentality.
Made the jump to Sony a month ago, and boy are your videos helping so much. Just want to say thanks for all the stuff you put out. Keep up the awesomeness Jason!
Another great video. Just playing with my new A6400. This is all very helpful. Plus you seem like a cool dude when you present these videos making them entertaining.
I love your content. I have a very small channel, as a noob. I use your tips and can’t wait to see how I will grow as a content creator over the next year or two. Thank you.
Its nice you say peace in the end. World needs it. Being a Muslim when we great fellow Muslims. We say Assalamualaikum. Meaning Peace and blessing be upon you.
@@JasonVong well - I watch lots of RU-vid in re: photography, you seem to present it at a very "learnable" level. Very talented, personable, sometimes corny but that makes you human. I appreciate your sharing the expertise you have acquired making my search for other photography videos much less difficult - meaning you are becoming my main resource. Thanks again!
Since you are a huge Sony fan, I thought you might have an answer. I am a solo interviewer and added Sony to GH5 and GH5s for 3 camera recording. But I am experiencing some serious issues when shooting in 4k. 1) I can't use an external monitor like SmallHD (Ninja is useless given the fan noise.) as in 4K mode Sony doesn't display ANY info like recording status or timecode. 2) OK, try using a laptop to tether. Again you can't see any display info. Including the recording time. 3) How about using a smartphone but now u can't use touch screen of smartphone to fine tune focus, something you could do with tethering. Is Sony trying its best to ruin user experience?
Just got back into filming. Entry level since I forgot everything. Your video is incredible. Very informative and you included EXTREMELY important info that others left out. Good shit.
Thanks for the break down Jason! The explanation of the different white balance modes really helped me better understand how it plays a big role in video. So used to shooting stills lol
Hey Jason... loving this series of tutorials. Question for you, I was in Europe for a couple months recently, and I noticed anytime I shot indoors there was a lot of flicker in the lights. I believe it’s because they use a different frequency than the United States. How do you get rid of indoor light flicker?
Hi Jason, these shots were filmed with which camera? I'm looking into buying Sony A7 iii or a7c, but I've seen many youtube videos where it has a very "video" look, not cinematic at all. Thank you
4:47 and 5:34 [whatever] fps slowed down at/to 40% or 20%, not 'by'. If you slow down 120fps BY 20%, you would get 96fps (120fps - 0.2×120fps). Just a minor observation 🤭 Anyway, great video and great series! I know this is a 3y+ old video, but whatever.. 🙂
Jason, I'm shooting on the A6500. And I have a problem with file-numbering. Every time I format/transfer over footage, the file count for my video files goes back to 0. I've adapted to it by always creating folders but I think it's crazy sony has not fixed this issue yet. ( it also happens when you switch over SD cards, which I never do because of it ) PS: Thank you for all your information in the videos I've learned a lot from you!
I down load to a folder then select all clips, right click the file name on the first clip to rename it and all the files that were selected will now have a new name and be progressively number starting with a number you entered on the first clip. Easy
Super good video Jason. Props for keeping the channel informative and ffffuuuuuun (lil quote here 😂). May I ask tho, I'm a bit worried about Danny. He hasn't posted anywhere on social media for a long time. Hope everything is fine with him, Really liked the guy and your podcasts.
First of all, great video. Was this shot in 4k 24p? When i am using my a7r iii in 4k 24p my footage looks like it stutters/has motion blur and i am using same settings as you recommended in your videos. Any idea what i might be doing wrong? Thank you
...JASON, THANK YOU! Which Lenses would you recomment for Filmmaking and Photography on the a7iii? Also for fast AutoFocus and perfect sharpness? I also want to use it out of my hands or with a Gimbal.
@3:50 im so happy you showed both of those shots. I know and follow the rule but have never seen the outcome if you pump the up the shuuter.. also.. I just preordered the new tamron! have you?
When you said to underexpose, is that in a standard pp? What about LOG when you are supposed to overexposed by 2 stops? Just wanting to make sure I have this correct
