Thank you for your tips on realistic drawing, thanks to you I’ve gotten my art featured in the Seattle art museum and won first place for the Naramore art show, I was the only 11 year old there but that didn’t stop me. Thank you
this brings back a memory from when i was in the US. my mom has family in LA so we visited them and my moms cousin (the person we were visiting) is an artist and back then my favorite bird was a blue tit, but since i wasnt good at english i didnt know what the bird was called in english so i went on google translate and i wrote blue tit in danish (blåmejse) and translated to english but it didnt translate properly so instead of blue tit it only translated "tit" and after i translated it i went over to my moms cousin and said "can you draw a tit for me" and everyone started laughing and i didnt know why, but then i found out why and cringe everytime i think about it.
Beginner tips is something I can't hear enough! It's so important to remember the basics, I would love to see a part 2 and what I would love even more is advice for someone that's a bit past the beginner stage and wants to take it to the next level, great video!
Thank you, just beautiful! I am starting to watercolor so find your video not only helpful but you are a delight to watch/listen to. No messing around with time wasting nonsense. I appreciate that.
To be honest, I wouldn't suggest acrylic/oil brushes for watercolor. They don't hold the water as well and they are just too stiff for watercolors. You can get starter sets for 10-20 euros and they work wonderfully (I've seen some from Daler Rowney that look amazing).
I bought some of those Arteza Real Brush Watercolor Pens. They seem like a good way for a total watercolor noob like myself to get into working with watercolors. They go on like a brush tip marker and you can use a water brush to blend it out and soften the color.
You really have great advice for beginners and great reminders for seasoned artists like me. I love using washi tape to mask my paper. Which tape are you using?
I spent months looking for supplies when I started traditional art up again after working digital for over 10 years! I wish someone had just said buy this and that! I love Arches paper, I decided on mission gold paints but they are very expensive I wish I had found DaVinci watercolor paints before I spent so much money! I think Denise’s earth friendly watercolor palette from DaVinci is a great value and good for any level of artists I also like squirrel hair or synthetic squirrel hair brushes! I loved the time lapse painting I find you to be a very amazing artist and so generous with your time and techniques willing to show others how to get the most out of the art they want to try, thanks Kristy!
13:26 omg amazing! You're actually so talented and you deserve more attention. I hope someone reaches out to you, as the world deserves to see your talent.
This was a wonderful video! I would love to see more like this. I love the background going on too. This was very helpful! Thank you for sharing your talent and expertise!
Great questions and answers. I just have a W&N 12 pan cottman paints. My questions are: What do I paint that isn't going to be out of my skill level? How do I know how to mix paint for the shade I want? How much should I mix up at one time, so I have the same color all the way through? Thank you for sharing your video. 🌺🌺🌺
I bought my 8-color set of watercolor paints from Michael's for $8.00 Canadian. I tend to like flat brushes (separate brushes for acrylic and watercolor paints), where I can use the edge to make accurate lines. I will use washi tape to tape down the page before painting. And I have used two cups of water - especially when I am using light and dark colors. On pans vs. tubes, I prefer tubes, though I normally use watercolor pencils. Easier to take with me - all I need is a little bit of water.
Wow! Talk about timing! I have not watched this yet but I JUST picked up my ipad to find a beginner group on FB to see if I could find guidance to creating a plan for furthering my emerging yet flagging skills in this medium. Thank you for addressing beginners. And if you have any advice in creating a skill-set exercise plan, I am ready to follow it!
What a Beautiful painting‼️ Great job like Always. Love birds & flowers💗 You’re so Talented, & Kind😊 You Explain Art so Good to us, Thanks👏🏼👍🏼 I hope to see you do color pencils more! But love what you do
Thank you for this Kirsty! This will be very helpful. I don't own watercolors yet cause its quite pricy. When I buy one I will definitely apply these techniques!
You just inspired me to try watercolours, I was hesitant to try it but seeing it in real time gave me confidence. I'll try a comic book/manga style in the vein of Yoji Shinkawa and see what I can come up with. Beautiful painting Kirsty! Thank you for the Skillshare recommendation, I just signed up for it.
I was so distracted by the beautiful painting you were creating during this video that I kept having to rewind so I could go back and listen to what you were saying :D Thank you so much for all this fantastic advice - your channel is so inspiring!
In my opinion tubes are better and pros also use them because you can make each and every color that you want just with five tubes. And as I'm an oil painting student I use and recommend tubes.By the way those colors are red, yellow, blue, black and white. I really recommend u to use tubes
@@KirstyPartridgeArt could you make some on how to do watercolor in an illustrative style? I'm thinking Beatrix Potter and Trina Schart Hyman type imagery. It's something that I would really like to get into.
I do have a question about your refillable watercolor brush. Mine do not dry out, even after I left them out for a week. They molded and I had to throw them away. How do you store your refillable brushes? I love your painting by the way! It is fabulous!! Also, do you have a rigger brush? I am trying to find a decent artist grade rigger brush.
What a great way of doing this beginners video for us by answering our handpicked questions. I just signed up for your patreon this month and I am enjoying looking at all your tutorials, all your work is amazing. I am loving your coloured pencil work your skill set is just amazing. I’m redoing my art room right now so looking forward to getting back in to my art. I was wondering if you have seen Lisa from ‘lachri fine art’ or Jason Morgan as you are very similar in some of your medium styles. Thank you again xx
I love your tutorials. You share lots of technique and go straight into talking about techniques while demonstrating. No unessasary waffling on in the beginning about topics not relivant.
One thing i have trouble with and something i had found out recently, is i find splattering hard to do. I'm sure i went wrong somewhere. I did a full watercolour piece, background and foreground of Jason Vorhees, and i did the splattering technique to get a blood texture- i loaded my brush with the thickest consistency i could do, it worked until it dried and lightened the areas making it look like i spilled water. I'm thinking perhaps Gouache would work better on a full on piece?
Hello Kirsty! Thank you so much for sharing. The painting is so so beautiful, could you please let me know the brand & the name of violet, green for the flower as well as the watercolor you’re using for the branch?💖 Look forward to hearing from you very soon! Thank so much!
Thank you for your tips and tricks. I've been drawing for years yet I have trouble with my depth perception and shading. Any tips and tricks for me to improve so my drawings don't look flat?
I mostly use colored pencils but wanted to start incorporating water color for things like background and flowers. Is mixed media paper ok and what kind would you recommend?
Good to know your turning Vegan Kirsty 👍 Been a vegi for 13 years and past 3 years been Vegan, 3 and a half to be exact ❤ and as always your vids are awesome
I have 2 pads of 300 g watercolor paper with different cotton percentages one with texture and the other is velvety, for doing drills, I still get warping 😔, I will try to tape it down, but it may be that I’m using the wrong amount of water
Originally I posted this as a reply to just one person's question, but several more asked about it, so here's what I have learned regarding at papers (and at supplies generally) and veganism. This is from doublecheckvegan.com/vegan-art-supplies/: "Art supplies have traditionally used many ingredients from slaughtered or trapped animals. For example, paints, mediums, and even papers may contain bone char, gelatin, ox gall, rabbit collagen, eggs, carmine, and shellac. Natural paintbrushes are made from the hair of sables, pigs, and squirrels."
hi! You said is this video that you have gone vegan and want more of your supplies to be more vegan friendly. I thought it would be good to let you know that the Siver Black Velvet Brushes that you often use do contain read squirrel hair in them
Personally, if you can afford it, I would try both. When I started playing with paints and crafting, I didn't know what I liked so watched for sales at the art store and bought a few different kinds. Later, I added aqua brushes from a different crafting experiment into my painting experiments. In the past, I was intimidated with the #6 to #10 rounds for no good reason and avoided using them for years. Recently, I plucked one out of my jar by accident and now am obsessed with them. I started just making watery backgrounds for my crafting purposes. Then I started doing watercolour in colouring books and am now making my own paintings. I continually gravitate to the same 5 brushes. One large and one fine aqua brush, one 2-inch flat for large washes/areas, and a couple of very fine 00 or 000 for details [I keep changing which one is my "favourite']. It has been my experience that acrylic and watercolour brushes are interchangeable. Or, I don't know enough to tell the difference lol Two brushes that I have never used are the Mop type and Fan type brushes.
