Larger men have some challenges making a sporran with the kilt comfortable to wear. And of course you don't want to sacrifice looking good for comfort, at least not on special occasions.
There are some common techniques that can help, such as running the sporran chain along the tops of the kilt's buckles to allow the chain to hang at a sharper angle.
There are also different accessories such as leather straps or sporran hangers that attach directly to the kilt belt.
You may need to experiment before finding the ideal solution for your body shape. Rocky and Erik run down the more common ways and their advantages and disadvantages.

what are your opinions on wearing a side sporran? Is it considered bad form or just an idiosyncrasy of the highland wear in general? By the way, love the show. Have been immensely helpful in my journey into my heritage and I consider you as my "go to guys" for everything kilt.

Great hacks. Tucking the belt up holds you in place with a snug belt fit. To address the cantile with the dress sporran, I suggest that USA Kilts get their hanger supplier create dress hangers that are 2 inches longer so that the sporan will hang 1 inch lower (half the length of the hanger length) than normal hangers.

Thanks! I have always had a beer belly (even when I was in the military). I never realized they made sporran hangers! You did not answer if hangers can be worn with chain? Everyone in band has chains so I would look out of uniform if I didn’t wear the chain.

Could you wear the regular belt turned around to the side therefore hiding the buckle as it were?

I have sporran hangers. Don't care for them. They tend to make my belt sag. Plus I don't always wear a belt.

Would a tuxedo style cumber-bun waist band give advantage in carrying the sporran under the vest?

Am a thicc boi, as they say. I go with a sporran chain. Wear it a touch tighter and it will keep it sort of along the "apron" of your body without digging under too much.

Concerning the belt and the buckle issue. I have a Velcro belt with no actual buckle. Would that be a good suggestion for the hangers and not really draw attention to the belt?

I use the sporran chain over the buckles trick for a different reason. My hips are very narrow and the chain tends to slide down no matter how tightly I synch it. I also wear suspenders (braces for you Brits) under the vest as a belt will slip down as well (so sporran hangers wouldn't be an option). Interesting comment above about the holster hangers. Never thought of that before.

I had this came across this issue the last time I tried on my kilt. I mostly have utility kilts that and only have the one dress kilt......but I keep getting fatter. to save the cost of having to get a new kilt I already have the extensions, The largest chain you can get and the largest strap you can get. Was bummed I couldn't wear my kilt and sporran on that occasion the remembered I had Hangers too but didn't think it would look good with my Dress sporran. this helps though really I should just loose the weight or get a bigger kilt.

I use the 'hook the chain over the buckles' method. It works, but I have also noticed that I have to re-hook the chain over the buckles several times in an evening. There really is not an 'elegant' way of solving the problem.
