Hi, Jess, another very useful video, it's worth thinking about this before arrival, standing in an airport after a long flight with a load of luggage and trying to decide how you get to your final destination is not ideal and some may think that travelling on the Piccadilly Line with four cases after an eight hour flight in the middle of rush hour is not the perfect way to start a holiday. Listen to Jess she is good.
Should note that when arriving very late at Heathrow (which due to noise abatement closes at 11:30 PM (23:30)), you will probably miss the last Heathrow Express which leaves around midnight. However, if you arrive very late at Heathrow on a Friday or Saturday, the Piccadilly Underground line runs every 20 minutes all night.
Just returned from our London holiday. Upon arriving at Heathrow, we took the Heathrow Express to Paddington. It was quick and nice, but Jess is totally right this is an expensive, short ride. After using CityMapper all week, I put in that we wanted to go from our hotel hear Tower Hill to Heathrow Terminal 5 and CityMapper showed the time and cost difference. For about 10-15min extra time, we essentially saved 20 pounds per person. We ended up on the Circle line with a change to the Picadilly line. In total it took about 75min as compared to about 60min if we had taken the Express. One further complication is that on the Picadilly line, the trains don't go to all the terminals; some trains make stops at Terminals 1/2/3 and 4, others stop at 1/2/3 and then 5. Our flight was out of Terminal 5, but the train we were on was headed to Terminal 4. No problem - announcements clearly stated "if Terminal 5 is your destination, get off here and wait for a train going to Terminal 5". Depending on where you stay, Elizabeth Line, Jubillee Line and Picadilly line all go to Heathrow. Don't waste money on the Heathrow Express! Thanks, Jess.
Piccadilly line (slow but the cheapest option out of the three) 45 mins to an hour TFL rail (reasonably priced but stops at more stations to london paddington)35 mins Heathrow Express (Expensive out of the three and is direct to london paddington station) takes 15 mins
Heathrow Express is outrageously priced. I also find the concept of buying tickets in advance to save money an interesting one. As far as I am concerned, if I buy a ticket a 3:50pm and board a train at 3:52pm, that is in advance.
That's was the only mistake we made as we took a taxi from Heathrow to our hotel in North Finchley, which cost us about 40 pounds. We took the tube back to Heathrow coming home.
Never use a black taxi from any airport, you will have a serious dent in your wallet. Some black taxi drivers will go a longer route or if they sit in traffic the meter will keep in ticking up. Its better to use uber or an online taxi company specialising in airport bookings. You can the at least see the price before you get into the taxi.
Emily Gabrielse late reply but the Heathrow airline bus runs directly to oxford. I would absolutely recommend this option if oxford is your destination. The bus will also stop at gatwick if you want some flexibility with the airports in this option. Other than that the train station you’re after for the cotswolds is london paddington. That’ll get you to all the stations you need in the area, including Oxford. Paddington is connected to Heathrow by a 15 minute train. The trip from heathrow to oxford via train will be twice as expensive as the bus.
I will be flying into Terminal 2, and I have a friend flying into Terminal 5. We both have purchased Heathrow Express tickets, but will want to meet at LHR. What is our best option of meeting up? Can they take the Express to terminal 2 and 3 and get off to find me, or do you recommend another way? Also, is there a place you would recommend meeting so we can get on the Express together? Thanks in advance for your advice!
Hi, what is the best way to get transportation to the Heathrow airport from London central at 3:30AM. Our flight is at 7:00AM so we need to get to the airport around 5:00AM. I figure it takes about 1 to 11/2 hours to get to the airports. Thanks
Hi Danny, use the tips in this video, and the apps mentioned. It's good to get into the practice of being able to figure out this stuff on your own for when you're in London.
I normally prepay a private car pick up. I do this after long haul 23hr flight as I am super tired & I don't have to worry about transport & get help with my luggage.
KathMedia do you mind sharing what company you use? Sounds like a good idea for when people visit me in London. It can be quite confusing for visitors to do Heathrow express.
Id o it with my airlines from here in Australia. So I prepay so I don't have to worry about cost to & from the airport from my accommodation. Nearly everything I prepay from Australia. I will not stay budget in London city itself after past experiences, was worth saving for me & my friend.
I‘m flying next week to London city airport and got to change there to Gatwick…what is the smartest and cheapest way ?? How long does it take by train or UBER ?! I don’t wanna pay so much ofc
Hi! I would like to go to the gatwick s terminal to the heathrow terminal 5 by taxi i dont know how much expensive is but i have 2 kids my Sister and my dad is 81 yerra old and he can't walk to much , would you tell how can i use this transportation and the cost aproximatly for 5 people please..thank you
hi Jess. Very nice. Watched your other " Arrive and Depart Heathrow " video. 1 maybe important question: How is the airport restroom situation ? Are they.conveniently placed and well- signed ? Kept clean ? Have to pay to use ? If arriving without any British cash or coin, how else can you pay ? Thanx.
Also I hope you don’t mind me answering either. The restrooms in the airport are free and I have always found them quite clean as well. They are also clearly marked. One you get off your plan you will have to run though the duty free shop (just a place you can purchase alcohol, sweets, perfumes, ect.) once out of the shop there will be an over head sigh directing you to the restroom.
@@hairyaireyGood. If an area in the UK had paid restrooms, would they usually be 1 pound coin ? If arriving as a traveler would one have to buy a small item at an airport store and get change ? And in considering usual restroom etiquette; I understand the UK idea of respect the queue, yet there are some things that may be a physical impossibilitynto wait in line for..such as in a public restroom. How would that work ? Thanx.
Je vais arriver à london stensted aeroport vers minuit ,et je n ai aucune ideè comment me rendre au centre ville . Priere me renseigner sur la facon la plus convenable et la moins cher . Merci
@@anjmehra thanks Anjali for sharing your inputs , the reason I choose to go with Uber is I checked both the Heathrow Express train and Uber ride and it's almost same plus I'll be with friend and we both will have big suitcase to carry and with that in train and then from Paddington to our destination will be a challenge and time consuming
My friends live in the Swinton Mexborough area and I am flying into and out of Gatwick, I plan on taking a train and I was told I should get a shuttle to victoria station and travel to sheffield from there. What is the best way to get to Victoria station?
@@loveandlondon I watched the video, read the pamphlet and spoke with my group of friends living there, general consensus is the train ride is far better than the bus, they all have cars I don't need to rent one so the gatwick to saint pancreas to sheffield route it is. now debating first class or economy thank you for your advice
Diane McLaughlin Usually there are car hire shops at the airport. Like, we’re using EuropCar when we go to London in a few months. Their shop is at LHR. You can book a car rental with your flight.
