For snow on mountains I have developed the 3 F rule. Hold the knife between the fore-finger and fumb.

That's some cool tips....I use to paint like this in the mid 90's. I ended up doing detailed watercolors and had a few prints made. Well, do to family responsibilities, I set the hobby aside, but kept a portion of my study as the studio I would come back to one day. I early retired from law enforcement and have the time to get back in this now and set up my studio once again...everything is ready. Clouds are not a problem, snow breaks were at one time done well until I stopped. I'm learning some of these techniques all over again, but feel with enough time I can master them. Practicing on the pallette is something I never thought of, that really is an impressive idea. I'm a new subscriber...I like getting fresh ideas, thanks for sharing this. I look forward to viewing your others.

Hey! loved the video man! I'm having a really hard time with pallete knife painting with acrylic paint. I use golden open paint if that helps. Keep up the great work!!

Glad you enjoyed it. Open paints can be tough. Best advice I can give is practice with a cheap acrylic on a clean spare piece of cardboard. The cardboard is very forgiving with paint breaks. This will help you build the skills to give you the confidence.

Hey Wild-man, great tips in another video on making better mountains (thank you). In this video, does speed (fast or slow) come in to to play when trying to lay down breaking snow with your pallett knife? (I started painting a week ago).

When you learn the correct and constant pressure there isn't much of a difference. It will all break pretty much the same way. Don't worry about speed worry about the correct pressure and flow... the rest will fall into place :)

@@WildCreates One more question I really need help with....my brushes seem to always have a little green color in them, no matter how many times I dunk them in thinner, grind them on the screen and beat "the devil" out of them. What am I doing wrong? Is it time for new brushes? I just started painting last Monday? TIA

You are fine this is 100% normal. Whenever you paint with colors that are green, red and blue, the pigments are strong and they dye the bristles. There is no avoiding it but don't worry... it does not effect the brush in any way.

- My trick is use a clean and dry fan brush... brush in with the fan brush where the path will be ( with no paint on the brush ) JUST MAKING A TEMPLATE HERE. - Then clean off the F brush and add the color of the path you want and repeat the same step. - Now go over your path with a palette knife highlight color and graze the path to add highlights. I hope that helps

The biggest problem I am having is getting the paint to come off my brushes when I am dabbing on to make bushes or tree leafs and ideas and I made the mistake and bought cheap paint to start and now I am ordering Bob Ross and I have some winsor newton any ideas

Hi and again i appriciate all your tips, i wanted tobknow How to avoid the globe of paint at first touch of the knife? Its taking all of paint from knife and nothing left for the rest gliding?

Its all about practicing how you approach the canvas with the knife. Start with more of a "90" degree angle, as you begin at the top of your mountain then "Drop the angle" to a more flat angle as you come down the mountain. Find a spare piece of card cardboard and just practice this angle approach over and over and you will nail it :)

Can you also do it on a Different version of a painting knife, the one that looks like a tool someone use for applying concrete Amazing helpful vid bro I can now make nice moutains fairly easily with high consistency Nice

Those types are generally used for mixing paint and applying thick coats on a canvas. You could do it but the angle of the knife will be a little tough. I have links in the video description for the knifes I used.

Plastic is OK and will get the job done BUT once you use a nice metal one... you will never go back :)
