Good video 👍 mower definitely did the better job 👌just from my experience my dad would not let us top unless it was raining and we used an old flail type forage harvester which battered the stems of docks rushes nettles and thistles and this allowed the rain to get down the battered stems and rot out the roots 🤔 just a wee story on how we did it 🙄😄
I would agree a mower has a nicer finish especially cutting the rushes short. However when it comes to thistles, we thought the topper seemed to batter the thistles more, and gave them a slower death, where mowing them was a nicer looking finish however, continued growing through the same stem. Good to see the 390T out, best small holding yard tractor Massey ever made! 😁😁👌👌
Great video Cathal. The mower definitely is a better job. Plus its off set so the grass/rushes arent getting bent over by the wheels of the tractor beforehand.. 165 radiators!! Tell me about it, i feel your pain 🙈
Thanks Alan. Yes mower much better machine although neither are great when they hit a stone. The flail topper might be the best machine as it’s robust enough to take a stone hit but still cut low. Nit a fan of the topper at all. Don’t talk to me about that bloody 165.😡😡😡
The disc mower will certainly cut better but I'd be worried about damaging it. A fail would be the best option as commented by another. It will fertilize the soil better.
Good video we have a topper similar to yours but i wouldn't be overly impressed compared to the job my neighbour does with his wee Kuhn disc mower, when I was at greenmount college the tutor told us to always top with a mower as it cuts cleaner and the grass plant is more drought resistant the cleaner its cut ps your thermistat is maybe stuck
We have a hay field that used to be covered in reeds. I topped them first and didn’t get far so just ended up mowing it with the hay mower. They really didn’t like it. They are still in the field but hardly noticeable now… and we take hay off now
