Obtaining a 6-Pack of "Battery-Tenders" for your Equiptment would definitely be an optimal choice for the "Mega-Shop"! You just have to remember to plug them in, and unplug!!!

Be a wise thing to do if you are going to mow with that....build an expanded metal shield for that back glass of the tractor. Even tho it has safety chains to prevent things flying forward, it still happens. I've mowed thousands of acres with a 20 ft batwing mower and things do fly forward.

Anytime something can be done quicker and more efficiently is a GOOD THING! That additional space will, eventually, be a very nice addition to the Stoney Ridge operations! Josh it will take years for those stumps to decompose on that strip in the middle of your hay field/ pasture. Durning that time unwanted trees and brush that will suck nourishment from your fields will grow. You will also find that strip of pasture will always struggle and fall behind of the main pastures. I would suggest getting a dozer in there and push them up into burn piles and move the burn ash into your fields for nourishment. It’s like feeding 28 of your cattle high protein feed and the rest cheap cubes. Which one will bring you more money at market. Great video and it’s been fun watching your farm grow step by step.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 2 года назад
My friend....I've been there and done that....the brush piles will decompose, rot, bugs will get in there and consume the wood and after about 5 years we'll have wonderful top soil to spread with a few stragglers (stumps and logs) of course. I've pushed up piles, burned them, burried them and made burms like this....I'm experimenting with this method to see how well it works. Not worried about a sapling or two sprouting in the winrow.....just keep watching we'll turn that brush late this fall and get some of that precious soil spread out on the land. Trust me I've tried it all....I will say the nutrient that's flowing out of the brush pile makes the grass greener on the down hill side. It's not like feeding 28 cow high protien feed and the rest cheap cubes....it's using nature and time to decompose biomass and utilize it in the soil that has no biomass....keep watching and we'll both learn. FYI I don't feed my animals any grain..it's grass only here on this farm my brotha. Not putting down your ideas....just trying something a little different on this pasture

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I guess the trees are softer there than here in Texas. I agree pine will decompose much faster than hard wood. Bit I did almost the same project that you are doing now taken woods and turning them into plush pastures or hay fields. I had several oak stumps that were pushed out of the ground that stayed in tack for over 12 years. Yes there was some decay of the stump, but you didn’t want to brush hog over it. Again good luck and you are fortunate to have weather that supports raising cattle with only grazing or hay. Most of our pasture land here in Texas are burnt up during the drought and you have to supplement with cubes or loose your cattle. Enjoy your channel and keep the videos coming.
@natevanlandingham1945
@natevanlandingham1945 2 года назад
if you don't cut those few trees you will be like me in 15 years with these ugly wolfy pines. The ice wears them out when you end up having ice. Are you going to spray herbicide on the wind rows? in just a few short years the trees are going to grow back and they will take hold good before the stumps and stuff are rotted enough to spread them back out.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 2 года назад
well my brotha...if that happens then I'll cut them and deal with it for sure. I'm happy to let some trees sprout in the windrows of brush....however I don't need to spray them...when I push them off the saplings will sort themselves out

More pasture! Those pines trees may give you a fit down the road, when you’re trying to get that grass established. A LOT of pines needles are baled in the south and sold for grass and weed control in landscaping beds around houses. Pine needles are very acidic. None the less, it's lookin' good around that place and I'm jealous lol.

@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 2 года назад
not at all.....grinding the stumps over a 25 acre pasture when the land is gully washed and the stumps are as big as a car is simply not a viable way to clear land and establish pastures. The forestry mulcher can only do so much and isn't really made for grinding down 25,000 stumps from a timber cutting operation. It would cost ya 5 times as much and you'd still need to grade out the land to smooth for pastures

Man, that mower dos the job, time is money...Is the mowing killing out the dogfennels?
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 2 года назад
mowing over time will help get rid of dog fennel...however when we have a weed growing in our pastures it means something....it's telling us something about the soil quality and we need to listen. Dog Fennel grows when there is overgrazing, newly cleared land and or a nutrient defficiency in the soil. We'll keep working at it by mowing, grazing and rolling out hay until it's no longer a problem on the farm. Spraying is often the best way to get rid of it...however I'm not spraying on the farm so the holistic approach is to mow and graze. Cows will eat it but it can cause dehydration in cattle and is known as a natural diuretic

I could be wrong but isn’t the DEF system kind of a farce? I was just speaking with a mechanic friend and he said it just burns off the soot later so while you aren’t getting as much particulate in the air you are burning more fuel because the engine can’t breathe as well and emitting the same amount of carbon per gallon. Seems to me that would be a win if you’re sitting in traffic on a city street, but an environmental loss on a farm tractor.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer 2 года назад
DEF takes the particulate portion of the fuel and transforms it into Amonia, Nitrogen and water...thus keeping down airborn carbon emissions according to everything that I've read
