Learning how to snowboard switch is super useful inside and outside of the park. In this video, I do a live coaching session and teach my Boi @healthysnowboarder how to become a better switch rider.

So important to have an "intermediate" trying switch: Having tried to ride switch , I can see how he is nervous and I can relate to that MUCH more than watching an expert go back and forth efforlessly. Seeing his hands in air etc shows vulnerbility. That said , Bama crushed it and was linking turns in no time.

My favorite way to get comfortable switch is to ride switch for an entire day EVERWHERE. Even getting on and off the lift, keep your switch foot strapped in. It really forces you to turn on your other foot. You just have to suck up looking like a slight jerry the first few times until you get used to it. Then move on to riding moguls and trees switch!

If you want to ride switch, ride switch. Simple fun rules help, like every.time your on a green or blue force yourself switch. Then in no time your saving your azz by throwing switch skills in sketchy situations to ride it out

6:05 is crucial.. I always memorized it by stretching rear leg, bending front knee into turn. (bringing weight foward is basically same but I never got memorized this.. memorizing stretching rear leg, bending front knee is easy) Another thing that helps and safes costly lift ticket hours : ride switch with your longboard or skateboard and push switch, helps getting muscle memory and feeling more convenient when riding switch on snowboard. Safes really money and time.

Guy who said you are underrated it right your tips and tricks are super cool and helpful and I think it’s gonna be way easier for me to do some cool stuff this season! Also a suggestion for a video is how to do those nose/tail presses you do in videos where you get really close to the snow and stuff. Also how to carve tracks where you get super close to the snow you know what I’m talking about?

Tommy, I finally got to take the time to apply these techniques again on my last days of my first season last week. The first day, I was on an RCR (NS Proto Type Two) board. (Heavy winds stopped all but the Discovery chair, so I really had no choice, but it turned out to be a gift.) I was trying that “squash the bug, open the door” technique. Things fell into place on that rocker dominant hybrid board when I realized that it actually steered more in between the feet, and that I should go back to kind of steering from there and more with my head and shoulders. HOWEVER, I tried again two days later on a Ride Algorythm, which is a slightly directional RCr board (mellow camber between the feet, more rocker in the nose. I expected to have a harder time with that given it is directional, but that “squash the bug” technique you guys mention worked perfectly on that board. Very cool! (Even if it IS nerdy.”) Those toe side switch turns felt impossible at the beginning of the season. I guess not!

I've been boarding for a long time but took a couple years off. It's been so fun to get back into it. My husband and I have been volunteering with the Cops and Kids program taking kids boarding. It's been fun to take the more advanced kids and I tend to ride switch with them, but I'm mediocre at it. I think this video will be really good for teaching regular riding basics and I'll learn switch as I teach. Thanks for these!! Also, it's so fun to see a Black snowboarder we are pretty rare where I'm at 💗

Great tips! Thank you. I've been trying to improve my switch but one issue I have is that I'm riding more of a freestyle board, the nose is really really long compared to the tail and that really seems to mess me up going switch. Focusing on the FRONT leg should actually help a lot because I think I've been leaning back too much in switch trying to make sure I don't catch an edge from my unpracticed movements.

Great video! I have been snowboarding for a while and feel like I am not progressing riding goofy anymore (my natural stance) and switch is the next step. Funny thing though is it is weird mentally to see good snowboarders learning goofy as switch since that is my natural stance and mentally my mind goes "that is a normal stance so it is easy" but when I ride regular, I am sure I will look the same if not even more off ballence than that.

As a beginner snowboarder my wife is like an expert snowboarder she keeps yelling toe toe toe use your toe. And for some reason I had it in my head to be like a ballerina and get on my toe. And well obviously that never worked for obvious reasons, and no clue why I even began to think that's how you do it, lol. But the idea of just raising your heal is so much more understandable.
