My favorite great spear is the tree spear. While it does deal holy damage, it mostly deals physical damage and it is infusible so you can add another damage type on top of that. It’s really fun if you want to try something different in a dex/fai build
Treespear is great for Golden Order builds. You can buff it with Magic Weapon for a really good Int/Faith weapon. Not as good as the SoNaF, but it's different.
cool idea... also since it's a spear and you are going full treebuild you can pump str to 30 and use that tree greatshield you can buy from the merchant in altus that has around 75 guardboost and green colour with tree insignia... would look cool. dont forget to pump end to 60 so you cna rock tree sentinel armor set pieces if you want.
The Kris, Black Knife, and Reduvia are all the best daggers because they give you an option that gives you range and an additional effect (poise, destined death, and bleed respectively)
The Urumi is also like the dex catalyst, great for beast’s roar and thunderbolt as it has the highest dex scaling in the game making it a solid lightning build pick (run the urumi as keen though)
Don't want to be that guy but the dex scaling doesn't matter for bullet type ashes of war like beast roar and thunderbolt. The affinity and level of investment in the relevant stat matters. There is also a hidden modifier for bullet type ashes which scale with str or dex that makes them worse for damage on weapons with very good scaling on heavy or keen affinities. A keen broadsword or a keen iron greatsword will do more damage using thunderbolt or beast's roar than a keen urumi at the same level of reinforcement and dex investment. In that context, perhaps the best weapon to use for thunderbolt is the keen caestus, since it's the lightest weapon that get's the higher modifier for dex scaling bullet type ashes of war. Edit: Was wrong on the bloodstained dagger being the lightest weapon with the higher modifier. It's actually caestus.
@@Communistgun Yes, on lightning affinity, lightning damage scales with dex, but if you're using ashes of war like thunderbolt, you will get more damage on them going keen rather than lightning. And you'd typically get more damage going keen on weapons which prefer heavy rather than keen. I'm not sure how your comment is relevant to what I said?
@@common_undead lighting ashes of war will scale off of Dexterity regardless of affinity chosen which is why high keen scaling dex weapons are chosen with lightning based ashes of war
When I decided on best weapons I took it to mean against bosses and regular mobs in multiple NG+ cycles which might be the reason you disagree on some picks. I'd also argue that the Great Club is better than the Giant Crusher since it's a LOT lighter, does more damage, and it's ash of war takes on the properties of whatever buff you have black flame/bloodflame/frost etc.
yea put vow of indomitable on it or that healing and defense boost ash although i think turtle shell is better objectively as you get 8% stamina boost... works wonders when you are using heavier weapons
I like how the best great axe isn't an axe, but an anchor. And by like I mean hate. At least convergence mod is giving us the dragonslayer great axe we deserve.
@@aguywithadog1663it really does, shame there’s not really any armor that gives similar vibes to dragon slayer armor It just a basic round greatshield either, the only one is erdtree greatshield afaik which forces me to use golden retaliation instead of being able to bash I might compromise and just use a tower shield and mix radahn and draconic sentinel armor to be like a goldish budget dragonslayer armor At least a pontiff look is easier lol
I would say Magma Wyrm’s Scalesword is my top pick for Curved Greatsword. Don’t get me wrong I love the Bloodhounds Fang , but you can buff the Wyrm’s attack types so much and it’s ash of war combo just decimates all enemies. You can get it just as early and upgrade it just as fast. A strength/Faith build gives you everything and can switch between hurling fireballs and using the Blasphemous Blade when you don’t need the atom bomb drop of the Wyrm. For me , it’s no comparison.
The magma guillotine is also great cause you can jump over things due to it moving your hitbox, the turning radius while using the skill is better than you’d initially think(can almost 180), and it is STILL does decent damage if you’re out of FP And heck, it’s Physical and fire damage so benefits fully from Flame grant me strength Magma scalesword is great if youre a fire-focused build
Axes - Highland Axe. When trying to figure out the best weapon to use the Barbaric Roar combo (Roar Medalion, Axe Talisman, Spiked Cracked Tear), I decided to just use this axe, instead of hanging it off my belt. I think B. Roar is too slow on great and Colossal Weapons, and I was unsatisfied with it on fists and claws. But it feels just right on axes and hammers. Plus, the axe looks really good.
Highland Axe looks so cool that when i found it with a dex character my first playthrough I immediately started a second character just for making the best of that axe
I just finished my first playthrough and I did most of the early game with the Grafted Blade Greatsword and later, when I had enough strenght, the Ruins Greatsword. The reason was I thought they look cool :) I did use the regular Greatsword with Lion's Claw ash of war to defeat the last boss because he was immune to the Ruins' Wave of Destruction for some reason (did like 50dmg instead of the regular 2400) and this was a bit too slow. Thanks for the list!
I think the Zweihander is the best colossal sword. You trade a bit of damage for a pierce damage heavy and much lesser stats requirements. For the best axe, I'd say ripple blade. The S arcane scaling transfer to sleep, poison and bleed grease put on it, for an absolutely ridiculous ammount of status build-up.
Thrusting swords may not have unique weapon skills but they all have a unique charge attack cancel and some a unique charge attack. All the thrusting swords can cancel a charged heavy attack for a backstepping attack by pressing dodge before the thrust, and can further follow up the attack with light attack to lunge forward past your initial position into your foe. It's a pretty great mechanic and I've had a lot of fun tricking players and npc alike with 2 cancels or more in a row. As for unique charged, Rogier's rapier has a multi-attack thrust when you use a heavy charged attack. It's good for status affliction and adds at least one other type of unique charged to the roster.
From a min-max perspective maybe Rivers of Blood isn't the best blood weapon, but from a plug-n-play, instantly smashing everything you come across perspective, I think you should give it a nod. Range+Bleed+Mindless spam really makes the game a cakewalk with it, way more so than moonveil imo.
Yes, but I'm going to politely disagree. If Rivers of Blood was accessible in the early game, I'd say hell yeah to the "plug and play" sentiment. But the Nagakiba, Double Slash and Bloodflame Blade are all available much earlier in the game and with that combination, your "Rivers of Blood at home" is literally more powerful and cost efficient than Rivers of Blood and available way sooner. But if one can't be bothered with finding 3 things and would rather wait longer for one and if someone just wants a one and done run of Elden Ring, I suppose, in that respect, Rivers is better. That and the fact if someone were to google search, "best weapons in Elden Ring", Rivers of Blood would like show up not the combo I mentioned.
@@ironstark917 Totally agree that with that combo, and when accounting for availibility, Nagakiba is perhaps an even better choice. But Nagakiba the katana doesn't do any of that stuff on its own. Thats why I mentioned "plug and play", with the Rivers of Blood, you don't need to do anything besides equip it and start winning lol. So on a best Katana list, I'd say its fair to say RoB may be better, or at least worth mentioning, despite availability holding it back.
@@xChirox You're right about it not doing any of it on its own. Though if we wanted to go that route, it can do more than RoB. Since it's infusable and can have any Ash of War equipped like say, Blood Blade with Occult Affinity, it will outbleed and out power Rivers bar none. This is null point though. We both seem to enjoy the weapons well enough and agree enough that this isn't an argument or anything haha.
Bro both moonveil and rivers of blood are pretty decently nerfed so nagakiba is way better cause of range and putting double slash as ash of war makes the same moveset as rivers of blood and putting blood on it makes it more powerful
I agree with the most stuff un the list. BUT eleonars poleblade isnt the best twinblade. Its not very fun if you are only spamming aow's. IN MY OPINION gargoyls twinblade is much better. JUST MY OPINION
only thing that slightly bothered me is no mention of dragon king's cragblade in the heavy thrusting sword category. It's cool and the skill does insane damage, but really the bloody helice is just built different. Other than that, awesome list
Dragon King’s Cragblade is awesome I’ve come to love lightning in Elden ring and was initially running equal split dex/Faith which uhh Sucked. Recently re-speced into a mostly dex build and have been getting great damage Heck if I can learn to hotswap better I can use cragblade AND bolt of gransax And keep my light roll with the nice fashion I have(skeletal mask, altered alberrich robe, preceptor gloves and trousers, gives a pretty slender, mostly black look broken up by the hood’s white scarf, and the robe’s brown accents, so it’s not a super busy or loud look, plus it has a bit of pvp use cause any bright skill from yourself or others tends to obscure all that dark clothing if you use the appropriate trick mirror, cause mind games can be just as effective as high damage sometimes
@@MamaTrixxieAsmr my first playthrough in Elden Ring was with a dex/faith build. I know it's more optimized to focus on strenght/faith or pure dex or pure faith but getting access to dex weapons and faith weapons/spells is what seals the deal and it's a good build that can work. Not the best but I didn't regret playing with the game with it! And Bolt of Gransax/Dragon King's Cragblade might be pure dex weapons but they really fit the theme of a faith character, so I consider them half faith weapons in a way.
just love falling star beast jaw, you are literally using a boss' body part. its a nice weapon for when you like unga bunga but also like turning brain off with its AoW.
3:29 Actually, the Zweihander has practically the same range, and is so much lighter that you save about ~11 worth of endurance. So, correcting for that, the Zweihander with +11 more points in strength/dex outdamages the guts sword! I found out about this from Chrightt's video on the topic
Prayerful strike with strength scaling on the giant crusher was how i as a braindead strength user managed to beat Melania. I had the guard counter talisman on and I'd stagger her with that, then instantly hit her with a prayerful strike. Would restore all the health i lost from the previous attacks i had blocked
Death pole(?) I cant remember its name but the one deathbirds using is actually broken. Its ash of war+light attack combo just destroys anything without any buff.
Giant's red braid is also a good whip , good AOW , good strenght scaling and faith scaling . Only problem is that the AOW doesnt give you any hyper armor so you are out of luck if ypu get hit , but the damage and poise breaking of the AOW supplements it well enough
Not even invested and the Envoy's Longhorn is absolutely obliterating everything I use it on pending on whether or not I can get a second to sit still. I got it just because it's grind spot is really easy and it looked like a funny weapon and I'm absolutely not disappointed. 10/10 would doot again.
I like colossal weapons but performance can change a lot depending on the enemies. Giant crusher, as it's name suggests, great against big enemies BUT agile enemies like Melania will always get JUST close enough for you to sail past her with a heavy and just far enough for the roll light to wiff. Plus it takes a lot of stam and it can be dangerous against aggressive enemies and can prohibit the ability to repost after a stance break due to the recovery. Golems halberd is better for being well rounded but to be honest the default colossal heavy is underrated, faster and wider than people expect.
3:33 I just used one and infused the right hand antspur with poison. Since the second chain does 3 quick stabs, it can really easily and fast build up poison and rot. I used it in PVP and its so funny to see everyone running away from you as they are slowly rotting away XD
Man I don't think the Grafted Dragon will ever get any love, will it? It doesn't do insane damage, the weapon skill is okay at best. But man is it funny
Dark moon is better for certain bosses but BB is great for most situations and anywhere when it’s resisted then use dark moon. Sacred swords ash of war is amazing not only for clearing rooms and melting health bars but farming runes as well.
i think duelist greataxe is the best if you don't want to go str.... you can play it in dex and buff it to 1400ar... i have 20 str,80 dex,60 vig,60 end... vagabond class... 73 poise... lightning slash inused lightning duelist greataxe... buff with commanders standard, lightning tear, scorpion charm, ritual sword , axe talisman, winged sword insignia.... 3 hit i regularly hit over 4k damage on enemies that notice me. ash alone does 2-3k and buffs weapon. Ofc it has lower poise dmg and ar than giant crusher but you cant dex with it as effectively... i can easily whip out bolt of gransax and nuke for 2-3k dmg 3 times with one flask. Full lightning build. This build though works only once you have pased level 150... until then you might feel awkward with lesser poise and lighter armor sets to use such a colossal weapon... so until then use a zwei poke with lightning infusion and lightning slash arm and ofc the bolt of gransax ash with godfrey icon and ritual sword and 2 talismans of your choice. And i know it might have 20-40 more ar with str and less req... but i can't use bolt of gransax there or lightning so yeah there's that. You can say fire but lategame and vs knight enemies lightning is better.
I realized last night, that the bloodblade AOW that isnt on the reduvia. DOES take hp to use. But ONLY for the very first one... you can mash L2 after that, and you lose no hp. What makes it take hp, is starting it up.... i thought it took hp each time you used it
to bad for those who can't get greatsword even me. because some of us are using old versions of the game. but radahn's greatswords (yes swords not sword) makes up for it. because you can just dual-wield it and it's ash attack is great when you round up by 8 or more enemies. you don't have to spend almost the whole game just to use two colossal swords just to dealwield and saves weight space. it's good for early use and if you just started the game for the 1st time. if you are going for colossal/heavy build at the start.
Blasphemous blade is not only the best greatsword, but the best weapon in the game. It gets healing, which is useful for both bosses and freeroam, still does massive damage, and is obtainable quite early, due to being obtained by killing a gimmick boss
It also gets you free healing without using the ash of war if anything near you dies. Pairs well with other greatsword from dung eater that gives you free FP for the same reason. Infinite healing and fp as long as things are dying
The dragon halberd is my favourite weapon to use as it’s as of war is perfect and it has frostbite damage on it as well it is insanely good and not hard to find
The Greatsword and the Grafted Blade Greatsword are kinda a league apart. Honestly, the Grafted Blade is better in my opinion. Even thought the ash of war isn’t changeable and the reach of the crouch poke isn’t as long, the stats don’t lie. Also you get a +5 to all skills as a buff for an amount of time
there is no way the black knife dagger or glintstone kris are better than the reduvia. This list looks more like a "most popular" list rather than a "best weapon" list
I've always disliked using the Moonlight Greatsword in all the Souls games but I love the Dark Moon Greatsword it's my favorite weapon and I use it in NG+7 and I think it's the best weapon in the game.
By Antspur (my personal favorite in the game), i don't understand why it doesn't apply/build scarlet rot when you use seppuku on it, would make sense (but thanks doesn't happens)
Something about what weapon i can say i love, if a lot of people love it i normally stay away from it. And it feels like im copying someones favorite weapon story.
When it comes to greatswords my pick is Deaths Poker. It also does frostbite build up like Darkmoon but it's skill does way more damage. Darkmoon is my second favorite and Blasphemous Blade is just terrible and overrated in my expirience.
Dagger: no, it's reduvia. Bleed Straight sword: sure as hell isn't sonaf, given how limited its use is. Not sure what it should be though Greatsword: yeah it's blasphemous Colossal sword: gugs is just bias man its godslayer Thrusting: they're all kinda shit tbh, antspur is the only stand out Heavy thrusting: fuck yeah its helice Curved sword: its probably scavengers but i love wing of astel CGS: I think Scalesword is better, phenomenal weapon Katana: yeah it's either moonveil or nagakiba Twinblade: probably eleonaras, but they're all fine Axe: warped axe my beloved Greataxe: fuck yeah anchor longhorn is really good but holy lmao Hammer: idk they're all boring Flail: they all suck, but pumpkin head and stars are ok Greathammer: its great stars Colosall weapon: all bad Spears: cross naginata Greatspear: its mohgs. Its always been mohgs. But vykes is strong Halberd: man these are all decent. Probably nights cav, just hits hard Reaper: its grave scythe, what else would it be Whips: hoslows, bleed. again Claws: backflip claws babee Fist: star fist, bleed
Let me guess.. the moonveil is the best katana. 32 seconds into the video and that’s my guess Edit: 6:40 in and everyone voted for the Moonveil 😂! Thank you comment section for being so predictable. As for this RU-vidr, good on you for choosing the Nagakiba. In my own opinion, though, it’s just the Uchigatana. You can be so versatile with it, but it’s best quality is that its good at skill building, where as the Nagakiba has so much range that it’s basically on par with the pike with three times the damage. I think the only other samurai weapon that can beat it out in terms of versatility is the Naginata
