You inspired me to do a zoom presentation for my class. I was able to use what I had on hand which was a lapel mic, stream cam and gehtto 3 point lighting. All I did was buy a cheap green screen and I was able to walk inside my PowerPoints passing it through OBS. Thanks so much! I aced the presentation and everyone was very impressed!👍
After struggling with the auto focus on the Razer Kiyo Pro for 2 months, yesterday I ran the firmware update. HUGE difference!!! No more focus problems and the picture is fantastic. If you have the Kiyo Pro from before about November, update the firmware. It's like having a new webcam. I had my finger on the purchase button for the Facecam. I changed my mind now.
Hey, thx for coming back with your videos Know that you helped me a lot during the pandemic, I was suffering at work with poor light quality and bad camera position your last video like a year ago saved me. cheers from Brazil ;)
I watched your videos last year and bought a Brio camera, a Rode mini microphone, a Nanlite (dimmable and about the size of an A4 sheet) and for a second light I put a piece of baking paper over a tall lamp. It has really lifted my game in meetings and I look at what every one else is doing and because of your videos I know what they are getting wrong. Of all the improvements I made the best is the microphone. A good mic allows you to get your voice heard. Thank you.
Hi @tellthemborssentyou! This comment makes me happy. It means a lot to know these videos are making a difference. Also #TeamStandAloneMic for the win 🙌
Never have I clicked on a video faster than this! 🙂 Welcome back 🙏 i couped a a5100(very old stock) from a local retailer at around $230 and using it with a 5$ capture card. Best deal ever literally.
I agree. I think this is the way to go. Granted, my pick of an a7s is still a bit pricey at around $600 or so, but the low light capabilities are second to none at that price point.
As someone who is interested in inner workings, robust facts, sane reasoning and actually relevant information I'm mostly critical and annoyed by most of youtube's content and i really rarely not only comment but even log in here. I just skipped through a lot of vids by random dudes showing unboxes and talking webcams and got even more unsure about which of the options might be even considered any good. What you did here is by far the most worthwhile vlog I've seen discussing the actually relevant aspects, caveats and possible workarounds regarding webcams. Great work right here for people who are interested in actually relevant information unlike shit talk from random dudes who have little idea what they are talking about but try to make it look fancy. Thank you big time and huge gratitude to you for talking relevant facts in a didactical well conditioned way. Your work is a keeper! Loving your looks with glasses by the way!
I found your previous content really useful for a non-expert suddenly making training videos in a pandemic. After looking forward to new content, I'm delighted to see more. Thank you for doing what you do.
Greetings from Singapore! Yeah, 2021 been tough for many. Delighted to know that you are planning more content for 2022, looking forward to them! Blessings.
Glad to see you're back! You make amazing content! The 13 definitely is more flattering whereas the Elgato is more realistic. :P Edit: Holy cow, you have an SM7B now!!
Just saw the edit about the SM7B! I got too curious about XLR and all my favorite RU-vidrs (okay, Potato Jet) have one. Now I just need to plaster foam all over my walls because cleaning up the audio in post was 😱 lol. It beats my favorite Uhuru but only when I get my settings right. It's been interesting to see that with the more pro gear, it doesn't necessarily sound/look better unless you have the skills to go with it. Learned that with color grading too.
@@JulieSchiro The SM7B is too far away from you mouth that's why you are getting reverb as you had to add slot of gain in post. Try a shotgun microphone, options for tips Podcastage or Curtis Judd. Rode just released a new cheap one.
@@Andrewc87563 Oooooh that is really great feedback. I was wondering about that. I also bought the Rode NT5 S but the reverb was really bad! I'm wondering if this room has terrible acoustics or if it is more user error lol...
@@JulieSchiro Glad to see you are back! The SM7B is a great microphone, especially if you don't have a well treated room. But as @Andrew C said, you have to put it close to your mouth to get better results.
WAHOOOOOO!!!!!, very very happy to see that you're back making content. I loved all your videos and stayed subscribed cause I was hoping you would come back. Very excited to see more of your videos
It’s nice to see another video from you. I hope you can continue to produce your thoughtful content. I can relate to the past year being a difficult one. May the coming year be much better!
Excellent content as always - great to see you back. However, given that most people’s real world use case is for online meetings I think there are some really important additional items that would be worth factoring in to reviews. First, how does the product work without software? (For most corporate users, they will be unable to add manufacturer or third party software to their machines - what is the out-of-the-box usability?) Second, how far does the camera sit off the monitor? (Vloggers can look straight at camera, but us mere mortals on Zoom need to look at our screens; if there’s a big disconnect between camera and screen, we’ll look disengaged and inattentive - arguably coming across much worse than the difference between 720 and 1080p) Finally, real world use wants a tight, not wide, field of view (we want our colleagues to see our faces, but they don’t need to see the edges of our rooms). I think if smart reviewers such as you could cover these aspects, it might finally help manufactures get their heads around the actual specs that now matter to most of the market: it’s no longer gamers and vloggers, just us drones ;) Thanks again!
Hi J! Apologies for the late reply to this! Thanks for the nice comment 😊. Regarding your questions: Out of the box: none of the webcams look as good without manual adjustments. I'd say that the Dell and Facecam win here. The M50 or iPhone with Epoc Cam (phone app) would be the only that you could modify without installing software on the computer of the ones I show here. All of the webcams can sit on top of a screen. For the M50, I put it on a tripod and just remember to look into the lens now and again. Regarding FOV: I'm not sure why every webcam I've ever tested uses such a wide FOV. Another reason I like the mirrorless camera option. I think you're right - the manufacturers are thinking of gamers vs. the rest of us, haha. Great points. Saving this comment so I can reference it for next year's review :)
Glad to see you're back. Because of your excellent webcam camera comparison video from last year, I decided to get a Brio and I'm quite happy with it. I also got the Rode NT-USB and PSA1 to accompany the 4k goodness. Hardware wise it's a great combination, MS Teams sometimes knows to bug out and cause the mic to be silent, but it's not something a simple restart cannot solve. Looking forward to new videos ;)
Hi Goran! Sorry for a late reply here, and than you for the nice comment and the update too! I love hearing about my viewer's setups. The PSA1 is such a good mic arm, I have been eyeing it for a long time. So happy that these videos have made a difference in your home studio setup!
omg I've never been glad a youtuber comeback until now :D I think your content is just great (for instance, your previous webcam video really helped me make a choice) and you're overall a charming person :) I hope to see a lot of your new videos this year!
I find it fascinating that you have affiliate and non-affiliate links. For the time and effort I would have told people to go find it themselves and only put affiliate links but that's just me. Great video and thank you.
So I literally purchase the Razer Kiyo Pro 20 min before seeing this video. I immediatelty cancelled it and went for the Elgato. Thanks for the great video showing the images side by side. Love your content and can't wait to see more.
@@JulieSchiro So now I'm super confused! I've been watching videos all afternoon regarding using a Sony a6400 with a Sigma 16mm 1.4 lens as a webcam instead of a webcam. Lol. Kind of liking the idea! Picture quality is amazing with the blurred background which makes it look extremely professional.
Hi Remotus! Thanks for the warm welcome back and yes! I realize this has turned into a webcam channel of late lol, but definitely more varied content to come 😊
Ok, I watched your video again. Bravo. You don't give opinion, you show the results, side by side, so that the viewer can make up their own mind. Your editing and professionalism makes every video a delight to watch.
Hola Julie! Welcome back. You helped us all a lot during pandemic too. I remember having an annoying 2MP camera once. Now, all thanks to your crisp detailed guidance, I do have a decent office setup(which a lot of my colleagues appreciated). Looking forward to more informative videos.
Hola Hiteshwar! This makes me so happy to hear! ( I remember the days of 2 MP cameras! Honestly wondering if my laptop camera is secretly one of those lol). It's so nice to know that these videos are making a difference. Thank you!
@@JulieSchiro You are very welcome Julie. Your video are always 'excellent' and they bring mine to shame :) I am just glad you got another one up. David.
Just saw your channel scroll up on my homescreen. You have a fantastic personality, great narrative cadance and editing timing. Keep up the good work. Looks like you have a lot more topics that you can discuss that go far beyond tech gear review. Abrazos - O
@@JulieSchiro your earlier webcam comparison and home studio setup were a HUGE help to those of us who worked on-site for broadcasting and such, but then were forced to use our...not-so-tidy dwellings during the lockdowns. It's not as messy now, I swear. Much appreciate your content, Julie. Subbed now, since it looks like you're planning to upload more than 4 videos this year. Hahaha!
Hahaha yes I swear I am going to be faster than last year 😅. Thanks for the sub! And it makes me so happy to hear that these videos have had an impact.
How I missed your gorgeous smile, your blessed heart, and of course, your top quality advice. Hope things have settled down, or are in the process of doing so. Warmest regards from your self-appointed #1 Mexican fan.
You have the quality, personality and charisma for this! It's really nice and valuable to follow your content, all those detailed reviews are just amazing, thank you!!!! keep it up, I don't want to wait another year to see you :]
The queen is back! Thanks to your videos I was inspired to up my home office setup. I bought a ring light, a USB mic and a tripod for my phone as a webcam, and the difference has been night and day
Welcome back. Just saying hi here. I was wondering when you would have new video since the last one. Here we are after a year. Thanks for sharing your review.
Really good video, great pic of cameras. I only have the M50 mark 1 tho love it for video. The webcams here look good. Mirrorless camera defo looks best here. Thank you again 👍😊😊😊😊
Nice to see you back with another timely video. Once you move away from webcams it does become a slippery slope. I have a Brio and Obsbot on my PC, but I'm also flanked by a Panasonic 4K camcorder and Sony ZV-1 that are connected via an Atem Mini. I recently bought a Canon EOS R5 but I've yet to find a space to set it up. OBS/Ecamm Live are probably where I go next, a pop-up green screen and a shotgun mic. In this migration to remote working and remote consulting, I think it pays to increase the professionalism of our technology setups.
You are fantastic! Thank you so much for such a beautifully produced, informative video. Your examples made me feel certain about which webcam I want to purchase. Keep doing this.
Just stumbled onto your channel and love your videos. Watched them all. I am a total newbie to streaming and you explain everything in a way that someone with zero knowledge can totally understand… most of the time (and that’s on me no fault of yours lol) 😉
Hi Bridget! Ah thank you so much! I try so hard to make them accessible to everyone, so a comment like this makes me really happy. Good luck with your streams!
Wow, I am so glad you are back in the studio. I don't know, when I see you, I feel cheerful. I am grateful for how you cast and your beautifulness. Please keep it up. Thank you.
