My Impressions
Overall. the Ranger 2C from IMOU is a relatively decent and cheap way to add a good level of security inside your home. I found it very helpful to monitor our new kitten when we were out of the house, and it also helped me monitor my house when I was away for a few days. With its 7-day storage online and its up to around 30 days worth of recording storage on a 32GB card, I also found it very helpful to look back and see various moments and events that were captured on camera.
If privacy is a concern, it is very quick and easy to enable privacy mode. This will automatically roll the camera up and into its base, out of sight. So you can safely tell from a distance if the lens is visible or not and whether it is able to capture you. You can also link this to geofencing, so when you return it can enable privacy mode, and roll back out when you leave the house.
I found the recording quality to be very good. Its 4 Megapixel captures very well, with good natural colour and its 2K resolution makes sure small details are captured well too. Viewing all the footage and alerts back in the app is very easy, and from here you can upgrade to cloud storage and manage the camera and its functions very easily too. I found its £2.59 for 7 days capture per month of its cloud subscription was very reasonable. You can save a little money paying yearly at £24.99, and there are cheaper 3-day plans, and there are also 30days at £5.99 per month or £54.99 annually. Compared to Google’s Nest plans, it is a fair bit cheaper.
You don’t have to use this camera with the cloud though. Local storage is just as good and you get your recordings stored for as long as your memory card can hold onto it before older recordings are overwritten.
The playback is decent in both day and night. There was one issue that I found, and that was the noise of the rotating gears is quite audible when the camera rotates and tilts. This is captured quite loudly, which might mean you might miss out on any key audio from the event being captured. It also doesn’t rotate continuously around either as it pans through detection or manually with the pan and tilt controls in the app. It will stop roughly towards the rear of the camera, and to capture further you would need to rotate the other way to get to this point and continue tracking.
So if you’re looking for a relatively cheap indoor security camera with detection, 360 tracking, great day and night recording, and options for local and online storage, then I would take a look at this IMOU Ranger 2C indoor camera.

Make sure it’s well lit. Tracking should occur I can’t remember if you need to switch it on, it should be on by default in the app settings.

Hi Anthony - thanks for this review - it's the first English one I've managed to find! We have a Tapo C200 and it has been fairly good but looking for a camera with a slightly better resolution, especially in the dark. This Imou Ranger 2C would fit the bill, but I have an issue - we want the camera to sit on an upstairs windowsill and monitor our rear garden whilst out or away, but I have read the Imou only tilts down 5° from horizontal. Not sure that would be enough? Difficult to mount it at the top of the window which would solve the problem, as we have blinds mounted there, and I guess the only opther option would be a tilted box on the windowsill, but that involves carpentry! Any other solutions or advice please?

If you want to monitor outside, it’s best to buy an outdoor camera that’s battery charged so you can place it anywhere. Something like a Ring Stickup or my go to is a Google Nest outdoor battery camera. Both come with easy mounts to a wall or soffit surface and if it’s just for going away you only need to place it outside at that time with a battery fully charged that should last over a month at least. Any indoor camera shooting through a window will be bad at night as it will have its IR sensors reflecting off the glass.

Howdy from Hot Houston Texas, USA... I like your review of the camera. I have a new puppy and wanted to keep track of her while I am at school (I am a teacher) . I have a Ring doorbell camera while I like it is expensive. So I have ordered the imou.2k for $40.00 usd based off the review. Like I said I like my Ring but their products are expensive and for me looking for a indoor camera so I can watch over my puppy. Have you tried their other products? Are there other products that work just as well atvthe Ring you recommend? Yall have a nice day!!

Hi Jeff. The other other cam I tried from IMOU is their outdoor/indoor camera here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-r9kcWJwlIJA.html but I preferred the ability for panning the camera using the 360 view of this unit. I am actually right now using this camera to monitor our cat whilst we are away. It’s been really good. Placement is key so you can rotate and get the angle you need to see specific objects/parts of the house and how your cat/dog might interact with them. For us it’s the auto cat feeder and making sure it’s eating the food we drop it and it isn’t failing or making a right mess and needs cleaning. It’s been invaluable these past few days for this purpose as well as for security and communication with anyone remote. We do wish the speaker was louder and clearer. I’ve not tried others but some are much bulkier and that’s also a good USP of this camera.

HI! I bought this camera to record from inside my home to keep and eye on my car in the driveway, although I'm having trouble trying to get it to record through the window at night, I have it in a dark room but the the activation light seems to be shining back in the window, not sure what I can do to stop this from happening if anything

You can’t avoid this unless you record in colour only and don’t use night vision.

Check the app for sleep or dnd modes to not be notified at those hours. Or set your phone to dnd during this period

Can 2 cameras (located in 2 different cities) fall under 1 single subscription? (I heard 1 subscription covers 4 devices? Or does it need to be 4 in a single location??).... And will the camera reboot by itself, if there is a Power Outage (like if I'm still... far away on holiday, and I can - not - reboot it, at the camera location? thanks!!

I don’t think location matters as long as you add each device to the one account, but you might want to confirm with them or download the app and look around/read help

When electricity is turned off and wifi or net is also off then after restart when wifi or net is not available then will it record on sd card bcoz Most of cam dont work like realme and xiomi cam

I believe it does do that. I’ve unplugged and replugged elsewhere and it’s continued recording. But you might have to have it record to SD and not cloud subscription as I fine with cloud on it doesn’t also save to SD anymore

The issue with security cameras is that there are so many to choose from.. Like my battery operated tools I have one brand because I didn't want to have different batteries and chargers ect and it's the same with these cameras. I would like to just stay with one brand maybe 2..I mean I get it, I have a Ring doorbell and works great and they do have other products but the issue is there might be one brand has a better indoor camera, and another 360 camer, or outdoors camera ect. I just don't want to have 10 diffrent cameras and apps for them. Not sure if Iam making myself clear.... Is there a brand you like?

I like Google Nest cameras and apps. There are a few brands that use white label apps that are rebranded. So the app experience is very similar across some of them. But again, yet another app. If you’re happy with a brand and app and they sell a camera that fits your desired purpose then there’s like little difference between them and competitors of the same spec. Reolink and IMOU are great alternatives that allow local SD storage and don’t need costly cloud based subscriptions. This one from IMOU looks interesting for pets amzn.to/3S0Boq0 and it has a 2.5k resolution. The cam for this purpose is best wired than battery. This allows for constant recording so if there are any events that require back tracking to see what’s happened or the aftermath of an event, constant recording and playback is crucial when watching remotely. Batteries are becoming a nuisance. Just like leaving to go away and get the 30% remaining battery warning on my Ring stickup battery camera. With no spare battery or time to recharge it I just have to restrict its features to make the battery last longer. I will go solar charging next time or look at hardwiring it for power instead. With ring I hate that you can not scrub through mine/seconds of the footage - on battery cameras at least. I don’t know how they are wired but the Google nest allows this and I just get disappointed with every camera I try that doesn’t do this. If apps and batteries are a big concern stick to the same brand and choose a camera that fits what and where you want it. Like this one for ring brand amzn.to/3zv7umD it’s powered and might offer constant scrubbing of the feed and no need to batteries. However you are limited to where you can put it near to a power source. So if that’s an issue a battery stickup cam amzn.to/3POgCrO might be better

@@CarPlayLife You should do a video on this topic... Like Batteries/No Batteries, Solar, Brands ect... So far IMOU has worked well because I am just using it to keep an eye on my puppy. For $40 USD I think it works great. What do you use for the outdoors? I see a lot of Solar Power ones but I am very weary of using them because of power/battery lasting during the night or days when it rain ect...
