I have had SO many questions about cooking oils lately, so I wanted to make this video to help simplify and clarify the best and worst oils to cook with. Let me know if you have any questions. XO - Dani
Thank you so much for this video! I was wondering about grape seed oil and sesame seed oil, and if those are good oils to use? Also, what about sunflower oil that is cold pressed (I believe Trader Joe’s for example has cold pressed sunflower seed oil)? Or does that still go through a lot of processing?
I would actually love it if you would do videos on healthy snacks as am currently on a weight loss journey and would love healthy 'cheat meal' alternatives
Yes and agree would love these types of videos as well as the healthy recipes. I would love to see videos like healthy grocery shopping hauls and trips to the grocery store and what to choose! 😊
This video was almost perfect timing. I recently started to purge my kitchen from all the processed foods with the bad oils and it is a challenge! Almost everything has soybean oil and vegetable oils. I realize now the benefits of cooking and baking from scratch. Your video just reaffirmed that what I was doing was good. Love your content! Thanks for the videos!
At almost 85 I’ve heard it all. I remember the cranberry scare in the 50s. The egg scare and a dozen others. The old saying ,everything in moderation still holds true. People who eat really healthy still have strokes, have heart attacks and get cancer. Growing up my mom used crisco which they say is a no no now. And we didn’t have butter during war time so we substituted it with lard. Using common sense is still the best way to go, that and listening to your doctor.
There is literally NOONE that will tell you crisco is good for you!! Plus, science has advanced greatly and many doctors are stupid enough to believe what you eat doesn't affect your health. If you believe that then go ahead and listen to your doctor.
I was just researching oils after I recently discovered Dr. Eric Berg on RU-vid. It so nice to watch your breakdown :) I'd love to see a video on healthy snacking and alternatives!
This is actually really helpful information that the mainstream is unaware of. 👍 Although I only consume olive oil at room temperature or colder because the structure changes once you heat it up turning a healthy fat into an unhealthy one. Thank you for sharing this great video. 😊
Thank you so much for doing this video. I already use avocado oil and olive oil. I didn’t even think of using Coconut oil. I would love to see healthy snack ideas.
Hey Dani can you please do a series on diabetes friendly meals? Particularly recipes for older adults. My mom is finding it very challenging to cook low glycemic meals.
Can not say enough how much to appreciate you doing this video!!!!! I’m often stuck and perplexed as to what oils are best to use in cooking and baking. And yes!! Videos on leveling up snacks etc. thank you Dani !!🥰
I disagree with one thing. You generalized “palm oil” but there is actually a difference between palm fruit oil and palm kernel oil. The orange colored palm oil eaten in most of west Africa is on the same level as coconut oil et al I believe
And also extra virgin oil is not for actual cooking because the smoke point is not high. Reasons why is used for dressing. However classic olive oils are best choice for cooking. Please check these facts. 😊
Thank you for making this. However I literally just heard the complete opposite from my cardiologist they said coconut oil is horrible for cholesterol ( in general he said to limit coconut fats in general), olive oil was the best for cholesterol levels... so many different opinions it's so confusing 😔
I can see why he said that, I believe coconut oil is great for high heat cooking as a replacement to canola oil just to crisp food not to consume in abundance though
@@GabijaS18 I have done lots of research including seeing specialists and the one main thing that is consistent is coconut fats is not all its cracked up to be. I've seen several Doctors including cardiologist and dietians they all tell me it's not good for my heart I think I'll go with that. It's just frustrating there is so many conflicting recommendations...
I agree with the doctor. And I think the opinion of a doctor should be held higher. Dani is partial to coconut oil; you can see this if you've watched her cooking videos. While I enjoy much of her content and recipes, I have to disagree here. It is not as simple as "mother nature" vs. "the factory." Unprocessed foods like saturated fat can be 100% bad for the heart. There is a wealth of scientific evidence to back this up, so it is not something any one person can accurately dismiss. Cook with bare minimum oil. Fat must be reasonably limited because it is very calorie-dense. To include healthy fats, dress salads with avocado/olive oil, add modest portions of nuts and seeds, and add a small knob of butter or some olive oil to cooked pasta and grains.
I get it! It can be crazy-making... but coconut oil is NOT horrible for cholesterol (processed flours, sugars and low-quality oils are the culprits). I would be curious about your doctor's nutritional knowledge and background. Most Dr.'s don't have a lot of nutritional education (no slight towards your doctor). The food industry is dominated by subsidized crops (aka soy, corn, wheat, etc) and so they have the loudest voices. It's important that we dig deep and do our own research. Happy to support you however I can!
So happy to see this video. I am bummed about sunflower oil being on the bad list. 🙁 I do love coconut oil and evoo. It has taken me years to wean my husband off of premade/bottled salad dressing. I now make all of our dressing and have several Ball jars of them in the fridge at any given time. 😋
Thank you so much for doing this video. It just backs up what I have been researching and learning. I’ve learned so much after finding your channel back in October. I’ve even got my sister hooked to. Two years ago I didn’t have a choice but to change my life style all the way around. It has been challenging especially since the majority of stuff we buy have SO MANY unhealthy ingredients. You don’t really realize it until you have to start reading the ingredients and studying up on what they are. It’s a shame that we keep getting told that everyone needs to start eat healthy but what is ACTUALLY GOOD FOR YA SO MANY CANNOT AFFORD IT CAUSE ITS SO EXPENSIVE. REALLY SAD 😞 It’s no wonder the US has the worst diet out there with all that is allowed to go in our foods. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK THAT YOU DO💖😀
Putting healthy oils in your body are so critical. All the nutritionists I follow have the exact same five you outlined. Thanks for sharing your expertise and communicating very clearly the benefits of each. I do enjoy your videos very much. Thanks for caring!
Dani, I love these types of videos and hope you do many more!!!! I have been eating healthier and making better and healthier food choices. I love your recipes as well, but hoping you can bring more videos like these and so informative!! The ideas of healthy snack ideas and what to buy at the grocery store would be great!! Also one reason my food choices has also changed is my cholesterol levels tend to stay high even though I try to eat healthier. I cook with almond oil and extra virgin olive oil. Would coconut oil and the ghee be okay where I am watching my cholesterol levels? Thanks so much and love your channel!! ❤️looking forward to you incorporating these with all your delicious recipes😊
As always, this video is extremely helpful and informative!! Thank you for taking the mysteries and myths away about healthy and unhealthy fats and giving us the truth.
Here's another new finding that most people may not know. Smoking point has been recently desmistified as a rule to follow for what happens to oils. I don't remember the details, but it showed that even though Extra Virgin Olive Oil has a lower smoking point than some of these oils, it produces less toxins than most oils past its smoking point.
Hi Dani! Thank you for making this video! Could you please also share your opinion on grapeseed oil? I seem to find quite controversial opinions about it on the internet, and I would really appreciate your insight on it.
Fats to avoid - Trans fats and man-made industrial seed and vegetable oils. These are often hydrogenated and rancid fats. These include peanut oil, cottonseed oil, grapeseed oil, canola oil, vegetable oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil, corn oil, soybean oil, palm oil, and anything hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated.
I have all five in my kitchen right now. I so wish I had taken the time to learn about healthy food, when I was younger. I’ve been eating a largely organic, gluten-free diet for several years now. Better late than never!
I love using avocado oil and grass fed butter. They’re my go-tos in the kitchen. Thank you for the wonderful information in this video. I’d love videos on breads and snacks.
Excellent presentation and very much appreciated; you are quite a sensible person who is not extremely strict but a solution balanced oriented approach to eating healthy and that makes you a fantastic food adviser. All your videos will be welcomed! TKU!
This was very helpful. Thank you! Yes a video on healthy quick fix snacks would be wonderful. I struggle with fluctuating weight loss and gain, so really want to get it right this year.
Great video Dani! I was just looking this up since so many oils are polyunsaturated and aren’t meant to be heated to such a high heat. Thanks again for the vid. Love you!
Recently heard about good vs. bad oils from Dr. Mercola. Thank you for the same information in a much easier-to-remember visual format. I shop differently now; always looking at ingredients. If at all possible, not purchasing products with seed oils. Challenge comes when eating out. Never know what kind of oil is used by restaurants.
Thank you Dani. This was very helpful. The oils were used are Avocado, Grapeseed, Extra Virgin Olive oil, Coconut oil and Olive oil. Thank you for clarifying the coconut oil and Olive oil. You didn't mention grape seed oil what is your thoughts on that oil.❤
Grapeseed oil is very high in polyunsaturated fats. Most people can afford to eat less omega-6 foods and more omega-3s, so considering grapeseed oil contributes high amounts of omega-6s, it’s not the best oil to have in high amounts. It does have a higher smoke point than many other fats - but personally - I would opt for avocado oil.
@@CleanandDeliciousDani thanks for addressing this since I also wondered about grape seed oil. I would love for you to do “level up “ content on this channel!
one of the simplest choices I made to try to start eating healthier was choosing wheat bread over white. from what I understand white bread has more sugar and is more processed. eating more wheat bread along with other "healthy substitutions" has really helped me pick up on the flavors and taste of whole foods. eating processed foods can really throw your tastebuds into wack, even starting out small can make a big difference. the more you progress, the more you'll appreciate natural cuisine. one of my favorite snacks is unsalted nuts, I love every kind! good luck out there to anyone trying to eat healthier. small changes go a long way, eventually they add up! :)
be careful with wheat breads because they are also highly processed with a lot of preservatives. Also, our grains are GMO; Round-Up ready..... If you want to eat bread, I would highly recommend Ezekiel bread which is made from sprouted grains (found in the freezer section of the grocery). Or Dave's Killer Bread found in regular bread isle. Good luck on your healthy eating journey!
Have you ever considered cooking without oil ? Like saute using vegetable stock. I could not believe it will work but after trying it out it does work.
Thank you so much for this video , I feel good I’m using all of the above already , except for one kind of oil I was using I did not know it was not as healthy as I thought. Anyways I’m getting rid of it . I would also like a video on healthy alternatives for snacks.
Excellent and informative video. I am so glad I do not buy junk oils as my oil supply mimics what you showed with the exception of ghee. I'm not really sure how to use that. Thank you for posting and sharing your knowledge with us.
Would love a healthy snack video! I think a lot of my “hummus dippers” (chips, crackers, gluten free snacks) are made with these processed oils. I will say ghee has a very different taste than butter to me … very nutty and distinct. I can recognize right away. Will have to try the KerryGold butter. Looked delicious and making me want toast. 😆
Thank you Dani for this as this has been really helpful. I’m a huge fan of your channel, thank you so much for your videos 🙂 I do wish you were in London
Thank you for the information 🥰 I would like to know how to level up our products to avoid this oils. Please, could you do a video o a serie of videos about this? Since I have moved to the USA from Spain, it is a nightmare sometimes to figure it out how to improve the products we consume without increasing considerably our badget. Thank you again for your channel and all of your videos. You're amazing!
Great video!! A budget option for cooking (that's still healthy and cheaper than coconut/avacado oils): Cold-Pressed Grapeseed oil! As long as it's cold-pressed and not chemically processed - I love it. Especially because it has such a high heat-point. What are your thoughts on it?
Extremely well done video. The processed oils are so pervasive it really is amazing when you start looking at labels. And as you and I have chatted about, using avocado oil instead of olive oil for roasting of vegetables is a good call. I did a video about store bought salad dressing, which is of course loaded with vegetable or canola oil. I invite everyone to check it out.
Hi Dani! A very informative video, thanks for giving us your search results and recommendations. It can be very overwhelming when deciding what’s good or better or safer……sheesh! I like how you broke it all down, much easier for me. Yes, please do a video on healthier snacks. I would like to see all the options you will search out for us. If possible could you do low-carb ideas in snacks too, thanks! Have a nice weekend!
Amazing!!! Topic!! Question is it ok to fry chicken in the healthiest oil? I’m asking because supposedly eating fried chicken is not good. If you answered that question already sorry I’m about to truly listen to the video now.
I would not make fried foods a diet staple - BUT if and when you make them, choosing higher-quality oils definitely makes a difference from a health perspective.
Your response is greatly appreciated. Correct me if I’m wrong but to my assumption, eating fried food with healthy oil can ruin the nutritional content. And if you can, it would be great (if you have not yet) can do a video making healthy foods on a budget.
Hi Danny, First of all, I love your videos. 😊👍 Although I usually consume olive oil, avocado oil & ghee, I've a question on behalf of sunflower oil consumers. If a person buys sunflower oil with high oleic acid content, then I reckon that the stability would be far better & would also supply the much needed heart-friendly type of unsaturated fats. What do you think?
Boy lots of good and 😋...truly very welcomed information...would definitely like to see some snacks and breads as well...thanks for sharing and have a enjoyable. great, relaxing and safe weekend!!!
