I can totally see Bailey Zimmerman becoming a top tier musician in this next year. The hype surrounding his last 2 songs leaves me thinking that more music and even an album would jumpstart a future star career
I'd imagine it will be the second or third single, either that or Tomorrow Me, which I actually figured would be the lead single after the lyric video was the first finished track from Growin' Up to be exposed. One of the country stations up here in Vermont jumped the gun and started playing it about a month ago. Now they have to turn around and start playing the Combs song the label wants them to be playing this summer instead.
I heard Bailey Zimmerman’s song “Fall in love” for the first time on the radio two weeks ago and last week I got to see him open for Brooks and Dunn at his first arena show! Definitely my new favorite artist I’m obsessed with his music
Kip's single Fire On Wheels is a freeking jam! I would definitely give it a yee haw. Gives me a shock of energy and has got me diving deep into Kip's discography. What a great artist! Thanks for the upload Grady.
“It’s got that snap tracky, Boring R&B Influenced sound “ really struck a chord ! So i just wanted to clarify that you were saying that R&B is boring ? I know this is a country channel but IF that’s were you were saying I kinda have to say that’s a bold statement since A lot of country artist over the years have definitely been influenced by R&B artist and songs which made them the artist they are. And that’s vocally , melodically and lyrically . But that’s just my opinion . Keep up the good work ! Been watching the channel for a couple of years and it’s very interesting. And the conversations that are had here make me think and I love that !
I've been waiting for years for you to cover anything from Shane Smith & the Saints! Honestly one of the best live shows I've ever seen! You'd love the amount of fiddle they use.
The short king inside of me was so sad when he heard the new Tyler Hubbard song. Between this dissapointment and the attack that was Tall Guys by Maren Morris, we kings can't catch a break 😔
I’m a big Shane Smith & the Saints guy, even before Yellowstone I was into them. Their “Hail Mary” Album was littered with great songs, with a strong mix of up tempo and slow and cool. Definitely worth a listen
It's really funny cause I watch every video you put out, but I love the songs you hate and hate the songs you love. Kudos for keeping me as a fan even though we never agree lol
I still love Sam Hunt, I know i am prob in the minority. Something about his ambiguity in country music... is it country, pop, something else? His voice is my fave. I agree it does sound weird on Water Under the Bridge, but I still like it. And his personal life...ugh
I’m absolutely loving Bailey Zimmerman right now! So glad you featured him. Also, I still love Sam Hunt! I agree that the verses were real weird at first but after listening to the song a few times they don’t sound as jarring. 2 other songs you should check out is Songs about You by Brett Eldridge and Son of a Sinner by Jelly Roll. Both are fantastic!
Sam Hunt posted an acoustic version of Water Under the Bridge on Instagram a while back. I like that one MUCH better. His voice is over-produced on the studio version IMO!
Love these videos! Thanks for putting in the work Grady. Can't tell you how appreciative I am of your channel. I had given up on my love for country music till you brought some of these less radio friendly artists to my attention.
I think my overall favorite song on the Luke Combs album is “Outrunnin’ Your Memory” but this one is a close second. The “keep doing what you’re doing to me” is kind of annoying but at the same time I think there’s enough good songwriting throughout the rest of the chorus (“get some candles burning and some records turning, all the lights down low, etc) that it doesn’t bother me quite as much as usual. Plus I’m also not sure I really want to hear the specifics of what “the kind of love we make” entails
Grady! I'm really happy for your move but I am sad you're leaving VA! You always brought some recognition to Virginia and we're losing a good one. Hope all the best for your move!
regarding truck songs, it's remarkable to me we have two songs about the subject having to sell his truck because it reminds him of his ex on country radio right now. Though the inaccuracy of Tim McGraw's 2006 F150 having a manual transmission and also upscale options like a sunroof and leather seats ruins that song for me(in 2006 the only F150s that came with manual transmissions were base level/fleet trucks).
@@nickmeekhof I’m not really a truck purist(though am someone who is interested in cars as a whole), but I probably wouldn’t have ever noticed the discrepancy if I wasn’t working at a Ford dealership back at the time 2006 F150s were new on the lot. And I agree, it’s definitely the better song. It’s just a little thing that bugs me, similar to how Beau Duke sliding on the hood in Dierks’ song “What Was I Thinking” has for all these years(Luke was the Duke boy known for the hood slide).
Conner Smith is one up and comer I’m intrigued to see. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything he’s put out so far. “I Hate Alabama” is the one I’d point to, that’s probably what catapulted him into the spotlight.
I definitely agree with you on Lady A! They're one of my favorite country musicians ever, and I loved their What a Song Can Do album (as well as the stripped version of WASCD they released just before releasing this summer song.) I guess they feel the need to conform to the mainstream and release something VERY country pop-ish? I wish they didn't, though. So many songs on their latest album, like Working on This Love or Swore I Was Leaving or Worship What I Hate, were more emotional and heartfelt -- back to the basics of country, honestly -- without being too cheesy. I was glad to see that, even this far into their career and after the name change melodrama, they were able to be genuine. I'm hoping this is just a blip like so many other country summertime made-for-beach-or-camping-gear-commercials songs. Also, I would pay good money to hear Adele cover anything by Sam Hunt, although I really think he could also do a good job covering her song Water Under the Bridge! He has a nice voice and can handle more serious songs. Thanks for making such cool commentary. I love your videos :)
Great Stuff as always Grady! You Should start talking about Easton Corbin more often. One of the few keeping it Country. Seems to be shunned from radio but his last few songs he released have been great. "Honky Tonk Land" "Marry That GIRL" ETC.
In 2016 I saw Shane Smith at Exit/In in Nashville. Tyler Childers opened the show, Colter was 2/3, and Shane Smith & the Saints headlined the show. Crazy what a couple years did there lol
The thing about guys like Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley splitting off into solo acts is that you get lost in the shuffle unless you come in that way or are really different. I would think that what is deemed as country music has more solo artist, outside of hip-hop than any other genre. Although not my kind of music, for the most part, that is how they built their identity. There are a ton of new names trying to build their identity.
that’s so funny that you mentioned conner smith sounds like thomas rhett😂 they are going on tour together and thomas has been pushing combers music more publicly this past year😂😂😂love the vid
I still hate seeing my childhood slaughtered like this, but at least Seaforth bothered to put Sean Kingston on it. This isn't how I would've wanted a Sean Kingston comeback, but I also can't be that mad at it. Lainey Wilson has absolutely been killing it. Really like the songs of hers I've heard!
Grady can you do a cover of Queen of Daytona Beach and make it all autotune ? It could be extremely endearing for the long time fans of your channel. 😂♥️
I really want to like Water Under the Bridge because the chorus does slap but I have to painfully get through the verses every time. Not only does the delivery sound weird but the auto tune or whatever instantly reminded me of If She Wants A Cowboy by Zach Bryan lol
Whatever that is with the verses, it totally reminds me of a cassette tape messing up. Also, I totally thought Kip Moore was Shaun Michaels for a minute. 😆
Grady I have a bone to pick with you. A friend posted that her husband just released his new pop country single and go listen to it. It checked all of Grady’s ye-naw boxes: snap track percussion, girl-worship lyrics, R&B groove... I couldn’t think of anything nice to say to my friend. Sigh. Grady.
"It's like an SAT test."" AHAHHA!. That's good stuff. Yea, I go through country phases, and I'm in one now. Country definitely merits the jokes a la "Country's just about women in cut-offs, small towns, and beer.."
I totally get needing the love interest in a song to be someone worth singing about! I love Parker McCollum but his song “to be loved by you” features some mopey, angry girl who won’t open up to him and he’s like “waaah why don’t you love meee?!” Haha
Kinda interesting to hear your thoughts on Sam Hunt. I disagree tho I still think he’s one of the biggest names in country music. Southside was huge, it not only went #1 on the country albums chart but it had 4 #1 singles. 23 which is the lead single to his next album also went #1 last year. He might not be the biggest thing in the genre anymore but he’s still a big star and still gets more streams (which matters way more to people like myself in the 18-34 year old demographic) than guys like Luke Bryan who are big radio stars but don’t have as much crossover success as sam.
I totally thought heart like a truck was going to be a funny song. I did not expect a song of the year contender! Missed you the last couple weeks grady. I pray a safe move to Nashville bro!!
My opinions: 5 Foot 9-I always hated songs that are basically lists of describing things. It's been done to death, so they're incredibly boring in my eyes. Both country and rap are the main criminals of this concept, so when I hear a country song that's basically a list of metaphors, I role my eyes and continue on with my day regardless of the song's overall quality. Summer State of Mind-Maybe I'm a simp for Lady A. I always have been. Honestly, I've been looking for a chill summer song to listen to. This may not be an original concept, but Lady A's vocals have always gripped me, so I put this on my summer playlist just because. Heart Like a Truck-Lainey Wilson's voice is downright gorgeous! I can listen to any song of hers based on her voice alone, and I'd be happy. What My World Spins Around-Ehhhhhhhh, it's decent. Lyrics aren't influential, but the instrumentals are there. I'd give it pass though. Hummingbird-I hope that with this video, more people will go listen to this song. For some reason that I can't explain, this hit me to the core. The song feels like a play, and I have my full attention to it. Water Under the Bridge-The fact that this is a Sam Hunt song already gave me red flags. Then, I listened to the autotune and instrumentals and that gave me an allergic reaction. Nope! Nope! BIG OL' NOPE! Rock and a Hard Place-As much as I want to like the song as a whole, I'm not a fan of Bailey's voice. He kinda sounds like the country version of The Kid Laroi, and I can't stand the Kid Laroi's voice either. Summer on Your Lips-I definitely put this on my summer playlist since it has the vibes. It's another checklist song, but at the same time it doesn't feel like it. With my rant before, I now sound like a hypocrite, but I guess because of how viby Summer on Your Lips is, I'll allow it just this once. Queen of Daytona Beach-As a person who went to college in Florida, I was expecting spring break tropes everywhere on this. I was kinda right, but then, I listened to the real thing, and I was like, "OH GOD WHY?" Bleed For You-This kind of country is not exactly for me, but I can't deny that this song is beautiful. Kat definitely has talent, and I want her to go places. Fire on Wheels-Ok, this was the last thing I was expecting. Would I add it on my Spotify? Not really. Do I appreciate its existence? Sure. Why not? The Kind of Love We Make-The majority of Like Combs singles are bangers or sweethearts in my mind. This song lands in the same pile, and I'd definitely be listening to that album later.
Lady A was one of the artists that really got me into country with Ocean. Still such a fantastic album but wow what happened to them since?? They’re so talented but boy is their new stuff terrible
