Great video! VIDEO REQUEST: Can you please talk about how you take care of various fabrics? I'd love to invest in merino wool, silk, etc. clothes but don't want to accidentally ruin them in the laundry.

I’m sure Helen will make a great video. In the meantime, anecdotally, I’m an inveterate machine washer of fine fabrics. Basically for merino, cashmere, silk: - Wash inside out - On a cold or cool delicate cycle - For extra protection, put items in mesh bags - Wash light colors and dark colors in separate loads - Be careful with fabric softener, which can make dyes run - Toss in the dryer for a couple of minutes only, on low heat, to dewrinkle - Hang up to dry over a wider rack rod or two rack rods in case of sweaters - Reshape sweaters while damp if needed - Once dry, steam or iron as needed, or in the case of sweaters fluff in the dryer if it has that setting (10 minute dryer cycle with no heat) to soften and fluff them up Exception would be new wool (any wool that feels thick and scratchy), which will shrink horribly. Dry clean or hand wash only for those. Obviously same for most structured items like blazers, though I’ve machine washed soft texture coats as well. The trick with those is to hang them to dry on a thick rounded hanger to help reshape them. Imo, fine blouse/sweater fabrics only get wrecked by a machine wash like the one described above if they’re poor quality and haven’t been pretreated properly. The brand is saving money and expecting you to drop cash on dry cleaning to cover for their cheapness.

Thank you so much! I would love to talk about this more but the thing is I feel like I don't do anything too special. The list above is so great, I'll just add what I do too. So my routine is generally: - wash things on a 30 degree cycle - ofc separating blacks and whites, and also using mesh bags for anything delicate - the secret of knitwear is to know that wool has self cleaning properties and doesn't absorb odours so I only wash knitwear when needed (UNLESS it's layering pieces directly on skin) - For anything lightweight thin, I will machine wash, otherwise medium to chunky knitwear pieces I will always hand wash and reshape to dry. The way it dries is the shape it will be so don't let arms dangle/necklines hang - I never use the dryer out of habit (even in a 1 bedroom apartment) and also have never used fabric softener - I always hand wash silk no matter what (dry clean only OR machine washable) - I'm VERY careful about viscose/rayon (I often hand wash first if in doubt before trying the machine) - for oil stains, I use baby powder to absorb the oil, before soaking in cold water. If no luck, I'll try dish soap.

Instead of using a heated drying cycle I use the air dry setting on my dryer as it helps fluff and reshape sweaters. I use wool dryer balls vs. dryer sheets. For winter coats and blazers I machine wash on the hand wash cycle & hang dry on formed hangers. I have pieces for 10 years ago that I have been doing this to and they still look new

Can you make a video dedicated to finding comfortable shoes? I also tend to do a lot of walking and because of that, I just stuck to sneakers to be safe but I would like to find more fashionable shoes for every-day wear. Love your content!

In general, boots and loafers are good styles which can take a tonne of wear and look good in outfits - look for good construction and quality materials. Teva sandals (or equivalents) are also great - even used for hiking - but have a more casual look.
@DailyHelenJ
@DailyHelenJ 8 месяцев назад
Thank you so much!! The thing to look for are chunky shoes. They don't need to be extremely chunky but usually a dainty shoe won't have the support for tonnes of walking. I agree that boots and loafers are great styles - make sure the sole is thick and supportive enough. Leather is essential so it molds to the foot. Width is important for me, finding something that suits your foot shape is also key. Narrow shoes are soo uncomfortable for me whereas a wider fit is perfect. For summer shoes, Teva shoes are actually really cute imo. I also have some ancient greek sandal options that have the same chunkiness which I love. I could go on but I think trying on different styles and making sure it works for your foot shape is key.

Loved all the items you've shown here. I find your style to be very easy, refined, put togheter but at the same time relaxed. It's very inspiring. I need to check that marant belt out, how cool! And love love the Carel shoes. Will add to my wish list :) . Will you do a review of your latest rabanne bag or a video about festive outfit ideas?

I had the same experience with reformation dress. The worst cost per wear dress for my case because it has to be dry clean after every wear 😢

❤❤ very informative! I’d love to see a video on your hair / skincare/ makeup products and styling process, the kind of haircut you ask for at the salon… without getting those things right, your whole look would be so different even if you wore the same outfit… it’s something I struggle with. I’m overall happy with my clothes and style but don’t know what to do about consistently having well styled hair without damaging it too much 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

Great video Hellen. I love all of your pieces. Another way to make your legs look longer other then going with a ultra high waist pant is to wear pants that are longer and just skim the floor. Most of your pants look cropped Wich cuts you off and makes your legs look shorter. This made a huge difference for me when I stopped wearing the cropped pants. Also try to do a half tuck on your top instead of tucking it in all the way around. I was told it makes your outfits dated and frumpy. i.have to agree. Another thing that gave me hight is I purchased some foam shoulder pads on Amazon that I can put under any top. There is a little flap in them that allows you to put the flap under your bra strap so they won't move. That was the best tip I ever received. Hope these tips help someone like they helped me. Ty again and have a lovely weekend.

Hi Helen! I see you linked Bared footwear- are they durable and comfortable? I haven’t heard of them until now and the designs look nice- but being based in the UK I don’t wanna take a risk if they don’t have your 100% deal of approval. Thanks!

Hey Helen! Thank you for the video. I have a question. I remember you once said that you recommend a base shirt from Uniqlo as a layer beneath knitwear. Can you please share the link? Thank you very much!

I would style the light leather belt with an all cream look, or a cream and beige look (similar to 3:17, just go with a light colour shoe). Speaking of - whoever hemmed those trousers did a poor job (too much tension in the thread) so they're not falling correctly. I would take it to a better tailor and get it redone (or even do it yourself with a hand-sewn blind stitch).

Can you explain more about the rubber soles at 9:38? Do you buy them separately and stick them on? Do you get it done professionally? Or do you just seek out shoes with rubber soles?

Your shoes seems to be so well kept? Are there any tips on how you care for them? Say do u clean them every time u are back home with it? Or wear a Low sock for the loafers?

I take all my new shoes and boots to the cobbler before I wear them to have a rubber sole put on for the same reason to protect the shoe and to weather proof them also yes it's an added expense but it really does save you money in the long-term you just replace the rubber sole as needed rather than having to replace the leather sole which is much more costly my boots I just recently had done around a month ago in the UK in the north where I live it was only £15 a pair so well worth it also get a good leather polish to polish out and scratches you may get keeps your leather looking brand new a stiff brush to get off mud dirt debris and a soft brush to apply and buff in the polish then I've found an old pair of tights or stockings are the best to buff and shine as the last step ❤

I like your tan leather belt. It goes very nicely with lighter colored tops or pants. I love nude shoes, boots so it will go with those as well. I noticed you don't wear nude shoes a lot. That does limit the chance to wear this belt. You can color it to a darker shade. I have bought leather color and colored a pair of taupe sandals to medium brown. It brought the shoes back to life and I wear it a lot more often.

As you have quite a round face, I really think a skinnier leg jean as opposed to wide leg would suit you!

It's been a few years since I've worn them but might be worth a try! I generally don't like anything too fitted as my lifestyle is far too casual for it. Whereas wider/looser tend to feel more practical.
