Took 5 hours with this video in garage and 6 senior rugby students from local high school. Complete challenge. One problem is we could not heat up fabric so we had to get the blow dryer out. This is NOT easy and this video does NOT show you the detail necessary for complete installation. But in saying that - we got it on at 11pm last night.
just installed a new twill hood on my 06 tj. i have to say the video instruction and written instructions from bestop are horrible. i had to you tube others putting up their new hoods to get a grip of things. for my twill hood it comes with those plastic stiffeners and i still have no idea how they slide in, they just don't seem to fit. as for my new hood, i love the material but i will warn people who are thinking of ordering, this hood its REALLY tight. I had to get someone to pull down on the back frame for me to get the hood attached at the back and the back window, well i honestly thought it was going to rip off the zipper when i tried to put it in. i won't be even thinking of taking windows out let alone the hood down for a couple of weeks hoping that the sun and tension will stretch the fabric some. one more thing, the plastic clips that attach to the back wings in the past on two other bestop hoods i have owned in the life of my jeep have alway broken. bestop, you really should think of using much sterdier plastic than what you supply, especially with this new twill hood that cost me large!
Watching this helped but the video is not even close to showing how much of a pain this is to install. The side bows do not fit in the post holes. Notice in the video how the side bows are at an angle but need to be square so the pivot knuckles will fit. They do not. Also it is really hard to get the windshield channel to stretch and fit. I'm still having problems. good luck.
Everything for my install went seamlessly, UNTIL the back window. It's 90 out, so PLENTY warm. The back window will NOT zip up. Gets stuck at the top passenger side corner. Infuriating. We have even tried the zipper lube provided. The whole reason I bought a new top was because my back window was busted when I bought this jeep, and here I am again only this time it's a zipper
My lord does this video give the wrong impression on how long and hard this task it to accomplish. You think you might want to update the video from 12 years ago or scared to actually show how hard this installation is to complete? I love the creative editing which cuts just before a difficult task. Time will tell if this top is any good but I do know this video, while helpful, doesn't paint the complete picture.
No I haven’t had a chance to doing anything else with it yet. It wasn’t so much how tight the zipper what but how tight the top was and being able to get the zippers together to get them started. They’re in a very tight spot
tried to install today and gave up because I couldn't figure out how to get the bar cover back over the pivot brackets after screwing them on. There is no way!
@@andrewsuitor9811 thank you, but sadly, he passed away 3 years ago, he never got to install the soft top, so we actually wrapped him in it and buried him with his beloved soft top.
Very informative, however, very deceiving. They clearly cut the extremely annoying and tedious parts such as getting the clips in around the doors and getting the zippers going. Definitely something you can do on your own, but don't expect the actual application of the canvas to be an easy one. If anything it's the hardest part.
Instead of just putting a link to your website, it would be better to include a link to the product you are showing also. I gave up looking for this product on your site. Like looking for a needle in a haystack. One more thing about you people asking questions, they don`t respond.
Considering my supertop cost me $1800. this video is absolutely atrocious! There are no useful tips for the most difficult parts of the process. Even simple stuff like making sure both rear window zippers are on the left is totally absent from this piece of crap. The written instructions are a joke, with hardly any "big picture" help (eg which way up the rear bow assembly goes together). Just crap. There, I feel better now.
