The founder is so passionate and well informed, and you would think that the CEO and type 1 person would have a better grasp of the information and share more true passion of the product.

Thank you so much for this great interview! Having followed Beta Bionics for at least 6 years, it's so great to hear all this open & transparent detail from within the company itself. Needless to say I'm extremely thrilled about the future release of the Bi-Hormone iLet. When compared to living for 3 decades within a treatment system that is almost entirely based on my personal 'predictive' actions; it's almost impossible to imagine what it would be like to use an insulin system that is almost entirely automatically 'responsive' to my blood sugar levels in realtime. (I cant wait until this is becomes available in Australia)

A bi-horomonal pump would truly be a game changer. Excited for the future.

21:25 re: Exercise My BetaBionics' Clinical Specialist explained iLet requires me to perform additional steps when exercising with iLet, because iLet continues to "Learn" based on any data it receives, and there is no way to suspend or alter insulin delivery. Here's what my rep recommended to me. 1. Remove iLet before and during exercise. 2. Prevent iLet from receiving CGM data while exercising: (e.g. put it in a metal box, and/or keep it +20ft away) 3. Monitor BG 4. Be ready to treat low BG. 5. Be ready to reconnect iLet DURING exercise if BG trends up. I wasn't an easy set of instructions to follow. I could do some, but not all of those things, and wasn't able to achieve BG control during or after exercise. If a metal box is part of iLet's therapy plan for exercise, I wish they had included one with the pump, because I never feel comfortable being without my pump. So simply leaving it behind on a run or ride isn't a practical option, for me at least.

With all the new technologies, how close are we to normalizing diabetic blood glucose? How close are we to telling our pumps to keep us at 84 with no basal or bolus to worry about or carb counting?

Sounds too good to be true but us dreamers hope that it is! I would like to live without worrying all the time about carb counting and the lows and highs associated. Thanks so much for this informative video.

I am truly interested in this device; however, it is quite large. I would love a smaller pump.

Great interview super excited for this product. It is a little alarming to me that the CEO who is also a type one diabetic had so many “I don’t know answers.” I believe it’s because wearing this pump. Will give you about a A1c of eight. Which is better than I believe 80% of type one diabetics out there. So absolutely this pump is amazing and it’s perfect for a certain segment of the T1D community. But it does sound that it’s probably not a good fit for someone who wants A1c is in the 6s and possibly 5s. I see this device as being awesome for teenagers for people who don’t wanna really deal with being diabetic, and for people that who who are older who might not have the awareness that they once had. Just curious were you surprised how many “I don’t really know” answers that you received? Thank you for doing a wonderful job.

Great comment. I came out of the interview feeling pretty great about what I learned and thought Sean gave a great insight into the tech. I think as CEO he may need to tred carefully - I've seen this with a lot of execs since I started interviewing these companies. One moment that did stand out was when I asked about details on target range and he "didn't know." I believe this info is out there and I think Beta Bionics is trying to focus on the fact that there are no numbers or settings beyond weight. So I think it's part of their strategy. Either way, I thought it was insightful and im very curious to see how well it performs with users beyond the FDA study.

Thanks for the video that was awesome. Can I say one thing though you sound like my mother in regards to bolusing this pump. Doesn’t require you to Boulis or even gives you the option to bolus. Sounds like you’ve already on top of your numbers. This pump doesn’t sound like it’s for you. All you will have to retrain your brain like my mother could never do in regards to carb eating and taking insolent when I was first diagnosed in the 70s. The regime back them was you injected insulin then had to eat at certain times. She couldn’t get it out of a head that the new long-term insulin was so much better, and it didn’t require me to eat at certain time.

let me say something that hasn't been said but needs to be -- diabetics are people who are mentally, emotionally and spiritually hurt. Their behavior is that of "I have to be able to _____, or I won't ____." This device has the opportunity to not only heal diabetes control problems which we've all unfortunately become victims of, but also it' has an opportunity to heal emotional wounds which quite frankly are very deep and manifest as "I'm fearful of _____," or "I can't eat ____," or "If ___ doesn't happen, then ____." Diabetes is a spiritual wound imho that goes WAY beyond blood sugar control into the depths of sadness, fear, unpredictability, and not being able to just LET GO -- to anything in life. Diabetics are almost always control freaks, in a alot of of areas of their lives. I'm not saying this is a bad thing -- I'm just saying it's a thing. Diabetics -- especially type 1's -- all become mad scientists, but these, including me, are ppl who can't just relax into 'letting life be', imho. This is a big revolution in a lot of ways. -- from a type 1 diabetic of 20+ years

My main concern for the system is the pump only holds 200 units. Since I’m really resistant to insulin, I could use more then 200 units a day depending on the day. So I theory I could be changing my reservoir multiple times a day.
@inspectorgadget346
@inspectorgadget346 11 месяцев назад
I’m insulin resistant as well being T1D for almost 40 years. Do yourself a favor and reduce your carbs! You will see your insulin needs go down drastically. And yes I totally understand the carb struggle
@swimm3r137
@swimm3r137 Месяц назад
if you're insulin resistant, stop eating things that produce it -- fat. It's really simple: insulin resistance is literally created by fat, which blocks insulin from entering beta cells.

Wow. Very promising. Tje only thing I still want to know is the water environment part. And IP# would have helped. I too am type A motivated. But I wish to have a vacation from the constant attention to detail. But the water part seems like a problem. Of the device is constantly "learning" you swimming and bathing os going to cloud the data learning. And just disconnecting doesn't seem like it would be enough. It's still going to see your CGM. Any manipulations (suspend or exercise target) will be skewed for data learning. Maybe you got some more insights after the interview??

The pumpcarts are too small for a normal, grown-up. After priming you'll have +/-2 days of insulin left, in the best case. Also, Lyumjev should be an option, as that insulin is incomparably better than Fiasp.

The iLet connects directly to the Dexcom G7; use of a Dexcom medical receiver isn't supported for this automated insulin delivery system.

hhmm i am not sure...I feel uncomfortable, not entirely sure why...he seems ....not sure of the word....he seems "not sure" ...no numbers!? just not sure... i guess only after a number of people have been on it and there are alot of review out on it .... but as like any other pump when one pump comes out with something cool the other pumps follow through so... i guess the future only tells

I'm skeptical but hopeful. It seems this iLet is designed for people who have bad or marginal control. They are gunning for the people who are satisfied with a C. Or are happy to get up to a C from the current D or F grade. And people who want a B or an A grade, they would get tuned down into the C category with this pump. Probably not for me. I am not satisfied with the official A1c of 7 is fine attitude. I want lower A1c, much closer to non diabetic levels. The iLet seems great for the masses but not the optimum for the best control. But maybe after they are able to add the glucagon component, it will be much better. Of course every pump would be better too. If this iLet works out as planned, it will be great for kids who do not yet have the mental ability to strive for the tightest control. Running a little high, 150, for years as a youth is OK if lows and emergencies are prevented.
@diabe_tech
@diabe_tech Год назад
Yea I think for kids this is such an easy concept to understand - more food, less or normal. Easy! I'm eager to see what peoples' time in range looks like after a few months in. Even more curious about people who switch from another closed loop system. Will def interview users.
@russellseaton2014
@russellseaton2014 Год назад
@@diabe_tech "time in range". My T:slim says the range is 70-180 I believe. Which is OK I guess. Can't get into much trouble if you are in that range all the time. But if my blood sugar is 150, 160, 170, 180, its still high. Even though its in range. You can be 100% time in range, 70-180. With an average glucose of 150 and an A1c of 7.5. I would not say you have good control.

"Weve done away with the convept" thats a bad answer for how it corrects eithers basal or bolus. Uh no dude it either gives it at once, over time or a mix. This ceo really turned me off the product.
