This is BetaFPVs largest "whoop" (ducted quad) they have ever made and definitely the fastest since it runs on 4S!
Note that this is a prototype but the final version will be very similar
The jello that you see in the video is due to my specific prototype having unbalanced motors-the final version should have properly balanced motors. I didn't run the stock props that it came with because the imbalanced motors did not work well with those props and only accentuated the jello I was experiencing
How does it fly? From my experience it flys best on a light weight 4S LiPo. You get tons of power in order to be able to pull out of dives at a moments notice or just cruise at respectable speeds. I did not experience any washouts while running 2X 300mah 2S LiPos in series (40g for the LiPos and homemade adapter). I ran 3-blade Avon Rush props for 4S.
Flights on 3S leave a bit to be desired. In my experience 3S does not have a good power to weight ratio leading to somewhat marginal freestyle performance. 3S flys very well if you just want to cruise around at high or low speeds. I did have washouts on 3S and I believe it has to do with the poor power to weight ratio that a 450mah 3S LiPo yields. 3S would be a lot better with a LiPo that weighs around 35g. I ran 3-blade Avon Rush props for 3S.
The 85X flys surprisingly well on 2S which you wouldn't expect with such low kv motors but the larger prop size and lighter weight of the quad overall lead to respectable flight characteristics. You wont be pulling out of dives at the last moment but 2S should be great for indoor flying. I rarely got washouts on 2S. I ran Avon 4-blade 2022 props for 2S.
Specs:
It weighs ~61.7g dry
1105 6,000kv Motors
DAL 2035 props
CADDX EOS 2 4:3 NTSC (BetaFPV Branded)
25/200mw VTX
2-4S 16A BlHeli32 ESC
F4 FC
~85mm Frame
XM+ Receiver
Note that a spotter was used to ensure no cars were near the bridge while the quad was above the bridge

Hello there. I made a drone with this frame and ex1103 6000kv motor. Well, is 3s 300mah 30 / 60c lipo suitable for this? I also have 2 pcs for happmodel mobula 7. Is it possible that using these batteries will damage the lipo's?

@BGUFF
@BGUFF 4 года назад
It’s hard to say. I get a very flight washout on mine with the same specs that is 44g dry and I don’t get washouts with any of my builds with a 40-41g dry weight. I am having the best luck when using the EX1102 10,000 motors from Happymodel though this requires drilling extra holes in the frame to fit those 3 screw motors. So I think it’s the weight
@BGUFF
@BGUFF 4 года назад
I also only fly acro with 300mah 2S LiPos and use the 450s more for cruising and less for freestyle because I do get washouts when running the 450s over the 300s. Try running a 300mah 2s LiPo and I bet it will get a lot better if not go away altogether

I just Velcro the 2x lipos side by side with the built in strap on the 85X and then use a series adapter (same as what you see on the mobula 7 and beta75pro2) except that I used XT30 connectors. Hit me up on Facebook Messenger and I can send you some photos

*Again, what is the purpose of this quad? It's not a who0p, it's friggin' 85mm!* It isn't for flying indoors like true who0ps can do. So, it's a 85mm ducted prop guard outdoor quad. IF IT'S STRICTLY FOR OUTDOOR FLYING, WHY THE DUCTED PROP GUARDS? We all know this will fly way, Way better without the ducted prop guards, so why have them on a outdoor quad? No reason to! The reason to have them is why true who0ps have them... For flying indoors in houses, etc. so you can bounce off walls, chairs, etc. and fly through tiny gaps. Name ONE great outdoor quad that has prop guards? Zero, Nada, Zilch, because ALL outdoor quads fly much better without prop guards and there's no real purpose for prop guards on a strictly outdoor quad. And Yes, running on 4S, this is a strictly outdoor quad! So, why not just go with the new Diatone GTR249? It's a 2" quad, with 25A ESC's, F4 FC, and superb build quality! AND, IT WILL MOP UP THIS "NO PURPOSE" QUAD AND SPIT IT OUT WITH FAR BETTER PERFORMANCE IN EVERY SINGLE WAY POSSIBLE! NO COMPARISON! PLUS... It's only $119.99 ! Who0ps are 65-75mm for indoors, but some can perform good outdoors and are ULTRA LIGHTWEIGHT QUADS. *Ultra lightweight is the KEY!* This is YET ANOTHER made for on paper so-called who0p, that isn't even close to being a who0p, so why does it pretend to be one?!! It won't hold a candle to many if not all non ducted prop guard quads, so why try to call it a who0p and put them on there?! STUPID! Designed on a computer for on paper fanatics, with no real purpose in actual use! *EPIC FAIL!* Trying to take a who0p too far and losing what a who0p is all about. Ending up with an outdoor only quad with unneeded ducted prop guards which significantly hamper it's performance and have no purpose! Don't think so? Take all the parts off that stupid frame and transfer them over to a strong but lightweight carbon fiber frame with no prop guards and watch the performance SOAR! This is simply taking the winter who0p craze and making what seems to be a co0l design on paper, a ridiculous and useless quad in real life! Again, don't think so, get a Diatone GTR249 and fly them back to back. You'll see! 🤔😁👍🤘
@BGUFF
@BGUFF 5 лет назад
Holy rant! Haha. I agree that ducts will lessen the performance of a quad. But ducts also give the pilot an added sense of security. You can bump into things without breaking things most of the time vs a non ducted quad that breaks a lot easier during crashes due to not having the protection. I fly the 85X indoors (2S) and outdoors (3s-4s) and I’m surprised at how good the performance is for a ducted micro. I’ve flown 5” quads from the beginning and there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to learn new moves or build your flyable skills but yet breaking things almost every time you try something new. Really hurts the motivation. With ducted quads it gives me (and others) the ability to try new things and build new skills without breaking things as often which makes the hobby so much more enjoyable. Why build an 85mm ‘Whoop’ (micro ducted quad) - I say why not? :)
@FPVisioning
@FPVisioning 5 лет назад
Ducts aren't going to do anything to prevent breakage going 40mph on 4s 😂👍
@BGUFF
@BGUFF 5 лет назад
Except for it goes 70mph+ on 4S. The ducts have saved me from breaking things many times. It tumbles and you just Turtle and keep on going. I have non ducted micros as well that go the same speed and something breaks on those in almost every crash and turtle mode is usually rendered useless on non ducted micros since the props get buried in the grass. So ducts definitely help but they also degrade the flight characteristics. Everything has its tradeoffs.
@TweakRacer
@TweakRacer 5 лет назад
@Scoot Roter I have been in the same camp as you for a long time. I have a US65 brushless 1S 28g AUW for indoors. For outdoors, I have several 2-3S 11XX 2" micros. As you stated, the latter fly way better without the ducts (compared to power whoops), with less drag, faster flight, and no yaw-washout. Yet, for the places and purposes I would want a 2" HD quad, I'm starting to like this Beta 85X HD setup. Also, some of your comparison points are lacking or just wrong: -Price: The Diatone GTR-249 HD PNP for $180 (still pre-order) is the closest to this Beta 85X HD (PNP) for $190. So, the Diatone is only $10 cheaper than the Beta, and not even available right now. Beta loses slightly on price, but wins on current availability. -Weight: Beta is ~74g (non-HD is 63g in Brian Joy's video, so maybe add 8g, as that's the difference between the EOS2 and Turtle v2 on paper; also adding an estimated 3g additional for the new SLA printed canopy versus the old vacu-formed styrene/PC canopy plus printed camera mount). Diatone is ~99g (90g in Albert Kim's video without the prop guards shown on the product page, which in my experience add about 9g with longer motor screws). Beta with 25% less weight wins here. -Motors: Both run 1105's; but the Beta is 6000kV, while the Diatone is 5500kV. Beta wins here with slightly higher kV, as I run Tattu 3S 450mAh lipos and don't want to miss out on too much power. -Props: Beta runs 2" Emax Avan quad-blades, while the Diatone runs 1940 Gemfan Hulkie tri-blades (Andy RC's review on the R239 shows that a 2" prop on motor 3 could cut the receiver cable), a reviewer noted that 2" props rub). The Avan's are much better than the Hulkie's. Beta wins here. -Camera: Beta runs Caddx Turtle v2, while the Diatone runs the Runcam Split Mini v2. The Split's came with crappy M8 lenses where the elements separated easily (jello/blurriness/lack of focus). IIRC, Runcam is making a sneaky change to M12 lenses to address the issue, but have not made clear indication of this (which makes buying one risky, depending on retailer). IIRC, the new lens issue is what is holding up the Diatone release (may have to make a new mold for a canopy with a larger lens cutout). Beta (available) with Caddx (no lens issue) wins here. -VTx: Beta has its own VTx with Smart Audio and pit mode. Diatone uses the Runcam TX200 (not TX200U/US), so no BFCMS/Tramp functionality and no pit mode (not even for the U/US versions according to the manual). Beta wins here. -VTx Antenna: Beta uses a Lumenier AXII Micro RHCP antenna, which will have better multipathing rejection and better for flying with others. Diatone uses a simple dipole, which is not as good for multipathing rejection or flying with others. Beta wins here. -LED's: Beta has them, while Diatone does not (but has an optional add-on buzzer, which is a non-issue with DShot beeper, and may not fit in the HD version anyways). Beta wins here.
