Bethells Beach (Te Henga) in West Auckland is well worth a visit, whether you are a Kiwi yourself or visiting from overseas like we were. The beach and surrounding landscape is truly spectacular with amazing views.
Just over the sand dunes you will also find O'Neills Bay, which is a delightful little bay where you can relax and enjoy a tranquil family picnic.
The area is somewhat isolated and takes around an hour to reach by car from Auckland CBD, but it is well worth the drive.
It is best not to swim in the ocean as the water is very rough and dangerous, but just walking along the black sand on the beach is an amazing experience.
