My only disappointment about the Horse Armor discussion is that it didn't include when Bethesda increased the price of the DLC as a joke for April 1st, and then never brought it back down.
They brought it down on Steam, and at Gamestop. However, Microsoft and Sony wouldn't let them drop it for PSN. I forget which dev announced this issue before, but they messed up when pricing a map pack. This resulted in the Xbox version being priced higher than the PSN. Microsoft refused to drop it and Sony forced them to increase the PSN price because there must be parity.
@@backlogbuddies”we accidentally set the price too high and won’t let you turn it down” Sony chimes in “well if they are selling it for higher we should increase the price too”
I cant believe they released a new edition of skyrim in honor of this video. Thanks Todd, but i think calling it "another one or sonething" edition is a bit odd
At this stage I fully expect TES6and Starfield to have built-in micro-transaction tabs like a phone game each time you enter a store urging you to buy bethesdabucks,
@@Jinars. There isn't any racism in vanilla Windhelm. The people there took in as refugees some of the most xenophobic and militaristic slavers on the face of the planet, that spent hundreds of years subjugating other races. Not only that, but they received and entire quarter of the city. Did people honestly expend everyone there to be 100% friendly to them? Maybe i have a different perspective because i'm from the Balkans, but calling Windhelm racist is insane. Solitude is racist, if anything.

I remember the horse armor fiasco. I think it's worth mentioning that we'd enjoyed a decades worth of internet freebies by 2006, where going to their website (a relatively rare thing to have in the 90s) you could get downloadable freebies. Wallpapers, cursor packs, etc. It wasn't all that uncommon for the official website of a PC game to have dozens if not hundreds of small freebies the devs (or mods) had made to download as a free add-on for the game. The Horse Armor was exactly that kind of "freebie" that you might expect if you visited the Elder Scrolls IV website, not something to actually pay money for. This was definitely the turning point, though. I remember everyone hating the Horse Armor, we all laughed at how stupid it was, but most of my friends ended up buying it. They were fans of the game and it was literally less than $5 so why not?
reminder that Snak gra-Bura (horse armour npc) has dialogue which is all constructed from existing voice lines, like a frankensteins monster of dialogue.
some modders have really mastered this technique. I remember there being a fallout 4 mod that made it so your spouse would survive the vault and join you as a companion, with fully voiced dialogue including affinity dialogue and stuff, all constructed from existing voice lines. Sometimes it worked, and... sometimes the conversations made no sense lol
Love how bethesda cried about mods taking the food off their plate ...the food they need to feed their starving kids! While mods were a huge part of the reason Bethesda's games sold anywhere near as well as they have for as long as they have. Mods and modders made Bethesda rich. They did Bethesda's job for them in most cases (fixing major bugs, glitches, making the game look prettier, and just less janky) and they did it for free.
Lol true the whole point of people buying their games is like you said because of the amount of mod support they all have without mod support they probably won’t be as big as they are now.
You have to admire that guy's dedication, setting up an entire website just to mock how blatently pay to win Fallout 1st is. Also, with EA and Blizzard being g so infamous for microtransactions, it's interesting that one of the first examples came from Bethesda. It's always the ones you least expect.
That's how it starts, these publishers watched as people bought it without much fuss and then decided to do it themselves and now we live in a gaming society plagued by the bloody things.
@@Altoryu They indoctrinated an entire generation of kids, and ignorant adults into thinking that micro-transactions are how things work. Games, movies, music, Super Chats, Patreon, Twitch, streaming services, Amazon, FREE RAM, and just about all paywalled content from just about anywhere. "Pay with just a click!" to save your/parent's bank info automatically propaganda making it sound convenient, which is another addiction society now has. Convenience trumps everything. No matter how petty, just a "taste" of annoyance will convince most to just go along with it no matter how many of their own rights, or freedoms they have to sacrifice. Of course it also traps kids, who are by nature far more spontaneous, and unable to think actions through to a more sensible conclusion because they want things NOW. It's way easier to convince a gullible kid to buy 50 Fortnite skins for $1.99 each to get some social clout online than to sell them another $60 game, and make them think nothing of it. Kids are much more susceptible to emotional manipulation too, which a fair amount of the independent creators tend to prey upon, and social clout does as well when they make things like "skins" important to that game's culture. Anytime something in a game is "new", and other friends have it already, kids are just suckers for keeping up with their peers. "Limited" as well...marketing language manipulation isn't just for marketing anymore though. It's for the news to attack the gamers when we don't go along with paying corporations our last dime. Almost every tech, or media platform has implemented some sort of micro-transaction system. So they have a credit card number already to use on all of them, with zero concept of the value of money because it isn't theirs. This has moved into Super chat kind of stuff, Patreon, etc. Certainly, giving money to "creators" is a better thing, and worthwhile, but that is still another huge scam by places like YT raking in such a high percentage to literally do nothing like Valve does.
40% modders, 30% Bethesda, 30 valve would have been fairer, since we know for a fact that an active community brings in new players to buy the base game and all the expansions. But it is all owned by miscrosoft now and so game pass gets you the whole catalogue anyway.
@@JWalters388 But remember what Gary said in the video? If someone makes a retexture and sells it for $10, it won't sell. People won't buy that nor are people being forced to buy it. Wheras if the expansion sized DLC was sufficient enough to be worth $10, shouldn't they be supported?
@@FraserSouris i think modders should put that work out for free and then hold discussions with the community surrounding their mods on whether they should put a price to it, or set a price from the very beginning and don't charge or publish until it's completely done and free of bugs.
@@kraktjoetv That's not really a good idea. Firstly, if modders put something out for free at first, they can't then change it afterwards. Even if they do, people will then share the pirated files or use the old version. There's also the issue that the modder won't be paid for the duration of the free mod's work and life which is pretty unfair. Secondly, having a discussion with the community is pointless because the community will always say "Keep it free". We have examples of mod makers putting thousands of hours into making a free mod that gets 200,000 downloads but only 2 donations
I agree with todd, even though he hasn't taken his own advice, Microtransactions would be fine if they were actually micro. So stupid that 10 dollars for a single costume, at the minimum, is the norm. The gacha machines at the grocery are reasonably priced, and I get a physical object.
The very nature of capitalism means that isn't possible. These companies don't just want *some* of the money, they want *all* of the money. Microtransactions, by their nature, are required to be predatory. Microtransactions only exist if they work, if they work poorly, they get 'optimized' until they work 'as desired' - Sure there may be a dev here or a company there that only charges 0.99c for their 20 hour expansion, but there too will also, ALWAYS be those who will charge $9.99 for a reskinned character model. Once the $9.99 seller makes enough money, they can then make this the norm because they can afford to buy out the majority of their smaller competition (who are smaller because they don't have the money from selling garbage for gold) and then you end up with 3/4 companies who are all in an equilibrium trying to charge as much as possible while delivering as little as possible. By its very nature, if it costs money, then it will have an incentive to make as much money as possible, and to make as much money as possible, you have to disregard the source of that money.
@@EroPatches Anyone who actually believes it's all Todd is most certainly an immature neckbeard, todd is merely the game director nothing else. It was the Zenimax board of directors who are behind the outrageous pricing.

Nobody actually plays with those mods though. All those goofy copyrighted mods are just for redditors to laugh at like "hahah tomas train funny" when in reality none of the successful mods on nexus are copyrighted. They're all either unique IP or stuff like bug fixes/quality of life.
@@Odeon1970 Total conversion mods are really popular. Not disagreeing on the meme stuff but warhammer and star wars TCM are very common across many games.

These days the idea that Horse Armor was once considered controversial is almost quaint. And I can't say I'm surprised to hear that Microsoft pushed for the price to be higher. Good ol' Micro$oft, they never disappoint. Though I have no real proof to back my claim I'm convinced they're also indirectly responsible for Fallout 76 since having two live-services would make Zenimax more appealing to MS.
To be honest dude, games have stayed the same price for a very long time despite being larger, requiring more teams and have way more additions than previously despite inflation rising quite significantly. Personally I would rather game prices go up a little bit than have shitty microtransactions peppered through my games. Can't comment on MS and fallout 76 but that game was fucked from the get go and this was before Bethesda was sold to them
76 was ultimately Zenimax/Bethesda's responsibility but if they weren't trying to be bought out I doubt they would have pushed it out as quickly so while it wasn't directly Microsoft's, or any other potential buyer, fault their money bags influenced what we ended up getting since highly monetizable live-services are exactly what big publishers like to see. I hate to sound like a fanboy simp (though I guess I am lol) but people blamed Todd Howard and BGS for 76 when it released but I never got the impression that it was a project they really cared about or wanted. To me it didn't had that "feeling" that BGS games always have. Or maybe I'm just an idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about... that's always possible lol.
The sheer audacity that Valve not only expected 30% of cuts for paid mods just for owning a storefront, but that they deserved *more* than the modders. At least Bethesda made the game.
i had a feeling you were gonna do this just before starfield. I'm glad you did, so far every video you've made has kept me watching all the way to the end
Sony ponies going to do anything possible to keep starfield down lol (I'm 100% joking btw. Nothing he said is invalid and the timing is actually great for views)
Starfield is going to be such a hot mess. Runs on a 20+ year old engine that barely sees any updates because nobody at Bethesda has the talent to do so, 110 dollar price tag for early access, refuses to show any gameplay even at Gamescom. The warning signs are so blatant. It's curious how similar this is to Cyberpunk. I assure you the fanboys will have a rude awakening this Friday.
@@iwakeupandboomimarat Ah maybe Microsoft will finally replace them. I have the hope Microsoft takes the Fallout IP and gives it back to Obsidian entertainment. Maybe Starfield is a wake up call to finally shut down Bethesda studios and give the IP's they own to actual competent studios.
Saying Bethesda has caused controversy is like saying the floor is made of floor. From Hot Coffee part 2 to Fallout 1st, they're well on their way to becoming the next EA or Blizzard.
ManyKudos going for that Dwayne the Rock Johnson in a turtleneck vibe. Not sure how to feel about this, but I'm all for hearing about Bethesda's scandals just in time for Starfield!
I should note that Bethesda’s rep is so infamous, that SAO Abridged had the company be responsible for publishing the titular Sword Art Online in-universe…as a Christmas rushed title to give the Nerve Gear a game. Also, the “die in game, die irl” thing was apparently an *accidental* glitch turned lethal.
I will say one thing on F76, the guy saying he lost his scrap "switched from private to public server", he didn't lose it, it's on the private server and doesn't transfer anything to the public side. They're different characters
A guy I know was trying to convince me that they fixed 76. I was extremely sceptical that such a thing would even be possible, let alone whether Bethesda could do it. Literally a week later, PatricianTV dropped his 76 video and every minute I spent watching it was a minute I spent feeling sorry for this guy at how hard he'd been suckered.
@MioAkiyama3686as a TES fan since Arena, well aware of Uriel Septim and Jaggar Tharn, Skyrim was almost the worst of them all. It's like they took the concept and made it for dumb people. (I say almost, because morrowind was a dumpster fire; though I hardly consider it an elder scrolls game, it came out in a weird time for games, and I seems like they made it very lineal, and optimized for console)
Can you please be more specific? Because that could mean two things; 1. Acting like dissatisfied consumers with very little actual power and influence who 'bully' the poor, innocent, massively wealthy corporations for hacking out garbage products meant only to siphon as much money as possible? or 2. Revel in being the exact kind of consumers said corporation loves pleasing most, that is to say, incredibly stupid people who will buy anything as long as it can be associated with the brand?
@@simple-commentator-not-rea7345to simply put it there is two types of Fallout and Elder scrolls. The people who grew up with it who played the games when they were much more thought-provoking and lore heavy/consistent with a focus on RPG elements above all. Then there is the New age basically people who came on the scene during Skyrim in fallout 4 who just play the game to play and don't really put too much thought into it. The massive problem with Bethesda is that they are a company that knows people buy their product no matter what, so over the years have been putting less and less effort into their products which has been alienating the original fan base. And I don't mean little things like maybe this armor or weapon looks a bit different. I mean the entirety of the game is fundamental changed. Some things are understandable Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics are C RPGs and by the time Bethesda got hold of the IP they knew that wasn't a popular genre anymore so they took it to a first/third person RPG like the Elder Scrolls. But ever since Morrowind Bethesda has been taking away key fundamental features and RPG mechanics from their games. I'll give you a few from Fallout 4 but trust me I can go on and on about this. Karma system gone. Item repair gone. Faction and disguise system gone. Perk and leveling system dumbed down to an extreme. Different ending slides based on your actions throughout the game gone. Extensive dialogue and different outcomes in conversations gone. Lore and artistic consistency gone. Hell in Fallout 76 they didn't even try. And I can go on. But what is the most annoying part of this is that when fans bring this the heads of Bethesda themselves and this is going to sound mean but consumerist fans of the new games treat these complaints as things that no one should care about. Sadly as long as these people blindly keep up this mentality my faith in future Bethesda products at this point is slim or gone. Hopefully this helps you better understand.
The fact that many of the same people who swear on their mother's life that they'll never buy another CDPR game after CP2077 have already preordered Starfield is a piece of irony that I certainly hope isn't lost on people.
Cyberpunk was the only game I’ve ever preordered outside of Bethesda game studios games. There was way too much fake information about the game and the trailers were extremely misleading. I know what I’m gonna get with BGS games and don’t care about their problems like bugs because I grew up on games like Fallout new Vegas on PS3 (worst version ever of any game) yet that is still my favorite game of all time. I just am well aware there’s only one company I’m willing to pre order from now because their single player game worlds are literally my bread and butter. That being said it’s absolutely valid to never pre order a game don’t take me wrong
@thomasrial4444 Fallout 76 was a monumentally worse situation than CP2077. Not only did the marketing lie, not only did it release before covid meaning that didn't hinder its development, not only did it launch in a nearly unplayable state, not only was it a multiplayer game with numerous exploits, the entire game and merchandise was actually a scam. In classic Bugthesda fashion, it's still a bug filled mess years after release, but now it's a bug filled mess packed to bursting with microtransactions and a pay to win subscription. 2077 is still a little rough around the edges, but at least CDPR has actually worked on the bugs without relying entirely on free work from modders, and the PL 2.0 update might turn it into the game that was advertised and perhaps even more. Also, personal opinion but the story and characters are far better than anything Todd has put out. Keep in mind, New Vegas, objectively the best Fallout game post Bethesda, wasn't even made by Bethesda, but by Obsidian and much of the team that created the series. Of course, I'll never hold it against anyone for treating CDPR with a lot of skepticism from now on, but to proclaim that CDPR should never be trusted again while mindlessly ignoring the fucking mountains of problems that Shithesda continually builds upon with release after rerelease is a level of doublethink that should mark someone for being a risk to themselves and others. The fact that Bethesda remains one of the more loved devs when they're arguably one of the worst is insane to me. I may keep an eye on Starfield and its modding scene, but I got so burnt out on Fallout 4 and having to spend more time modding it into a game I actually wanted to play.
@@ivansmirnoff6987lol people still dickride CDPR by comparing to 76? Imagine blaming Cyberpunk's horrible launch on COVID, i guess CDPR lying about the game was also covids fault? @@Mooinator3000 I'm an incel because I think that Bethesda produces low quality games? That's a pretty incel take right there. Are you a movie screen brother? Because you be projecting.
The Bethesda mark of quality goes far back. I still have an old game magazine with a review of Daggerfall which mentions that the game practiaclly cannot be finished without a patch. Mind you this was long before the internet was commonplace.
At least they had a good excuse. They attempted something considered impossible for the time, a few somethings, and it mostly worked. The difference is I can look past jank and confusion if I enjoy the end product and I'm reasonably sure it's the best you could do.
Companies would give out patch discs to stores, or even mail you one if you paid for shipping, if you couldn't use the internet. No joke, I have a patch disc for Guitar Hero Wii and Call of Duty W@W Wii. I also had a patch disk for Quake 2 growing up and a couple other games. I even have a patch disc/replacement for a pre-order OST CD for SMT: Strange Journey on the DS. Which needed its own replacement CD because they forgot a track and told us to deal with it.
I remember how huge the paid mods thing was at the time, it was just so transparent that it wasn't about modders getting paid since you could always donate directly to people if you wanted, it was purely about Bethesda and Valve being able to take their cut off the top. Honestly if it had happened nowadays I don't think there would have been as much pushback, the current sellout culture is just too strong and people would justify it as letting creators "get that bag".
6:05 The part I find funny about this is that Mojang does the same thing (The 70% cut) for minecraft bedrock edition, and they've never done anything to fix it.
The main problem with paid mods imo is that if everyone is allowed to make mods and have the options to charge for them, then you now have a problem for users. Cause they dont know if that mod for 1.99€ is good or bad, what they actually want is balanced if it adds new content and so on. Yes you can look at the comments and stuff, but for people to inform others they would already need to have spend the money. And dont get me started of started on those who would spam low effort mods and use common tags to get into most searches. Yes the "popular" good mods could be easily found on the "most popular" page. But if you were looking for something more nieche you could have troubles figuring out what paid mod is quality and which one is trash
Just to clarify, the first ever Micro-transaction was not the horse armor, but from a distant Asian game made by Nexon, Maple Story. This game’s microtransactions are hostile from the start, and is probably worse than any of the infamous EA loot boxes. These were actually rigged, so you wouldn’t get the desired item from the box. This was proven, and they got sentenced to a laughable fine that is not even a fraction of earnings they got from the scam. They’re still around and making as equal or worse gambling system in various games today :)

I have a love/hate relationship with Bethesda and their games, I like F3, fNV, F4, TES4 & 5 but when the technical issues pop they're the most painful game to actually play. The constant crashes & corrupt save files kills all enjoyment
Morrowind may have been a Brown mess, but at least the rpg mechanics were still there, and the lore was awesome. Not to mention that legendary items actually felt legendary! Bethesda has dumbed down every game since.
@miwoj I'm kinda of the opposite opinion. I loved Daggerfall and Morrowind and was okay with Oblivion and bored with Skyrim. To each their own I guess. I don't like games that hold your hand. Skyrim and Oblivion fell into the category.
Interestingly enough, I could never get into Morrowind while the one Elder Scrolls game I will easily put in more hours than all others in the series to this day is Daggerfall. Oblivion was fine and enjoyable but didn't have that "it" that Daggerfall had and Skyrim has always seemed to me as "the game where you put buckets on people's heads lol".

The whole paid modding fiasco was such a big deal for me because Bethesda literally posted a statement apologizing, and then merely two years later did it again. It just made me feel like they didn’t actually give a shit and would monetize mods no matter what, even if it meant they had to lie directly to their own community. Also iirc a lot of those that were against paid modding just weren’t okay with how Beth and Valve handled it. Suddenly there were dozens of low effort $2 mods that should’ve been free, updates to existing mods were locked behind paywalls (wet and cold did this iirc), and overall it just turned the community on its head. Many of us wanted modders to be compensated, but this clearly just wasn’t the way to do it. And CC is overpriced garbage so that wasn’t a solution either.
You can't change my mind I've already prepurchased starfield 20 times. I'm currently starving and digging through trash cans for food but it as worth it to support the heckin wholesome todd howard.
How does it feel saying that line over and over and not making any difference? You know how many times I've not preordered a game I want and instead listened to someone saying not to? Literally zero. Ah yes yes, but in that case "I'm part of the problem" right? You know how many times I've given a fuck about buying a game I want that doesn't meet someone else's standards? Literally zero.
You can pre-order if you want of course, but it's just good practice to see what reviews are before making a purchase big. It's not like it's 1999 and best buy is going to run out of copies of whatever game if you don't pre-order. Plus think of all the big games that have had buggy borderline unplayable releases in the last 5 years that need months of patches.

I cant wait for the starfield controversy when the planets aren't fully explorable like they implored over and over again, and us modders who've spent thousands of hours fucking with their game engine kept saying it was impossible, and would get downvoted into oblivion, no pun intended.
Love the fact Bethesda was trying to guilt trip people with those paid mod, just so they don't need to make content for their games, as even they're aware mods are the only reason their games are still in conscious of people
I am surprised there wasn't a mention about the A-Bomb Bug in Oblivion, that Bethesda actively knew was in the game and yet they never patched it. It would ruin saves that people put hours into.
The thing that separates Bethesda and, let’s say Blizzard, is that no matter how glitchy and broken a Bethesda game is, (and all of them are glitchy and broken, even the best ones), the games are still memorable, fun to play and filled with interesting lore (with the exception of 76). Most of the time you can look past the glitches, and in some cases the buggy nature of the games only adds to their charm. Meanwhile Blizzard games are decently polished, but they feel like empty husks made purely for profit, with no thought whatsoever for making a fun, memorable, exciting game. They’re just miserable and unenjoyable to play. I almost never feel that way with Bethesda.
The biggest bethesda scandal is how investors took over bethesda and pushed out the founder and the company is a shell of what made it great. Never talked about though, they've done a good job wiping it from the internet.
Zelda scandals for TOTK release.. Diablo scandals for Diablo IV release.. Final Fantasy scandals for FF16 release.. Barbie scandals for Barbie movie release.. Overwatch scandals for Overwatch 2 release.. Bethesda scandals for Starfield release.. What comes next?
But let's all pre-order Starfield by the million and send the message that their repeated scams, lies and bullshit have absolutely no consequences! *Sigh* Gaming can be so tiring.
I heard all the hype drooling and unending fapping going on because of the like 30 second trailer where they showed a ship a walking robot and a desk near a porthole and absolutely no gameplay and people were calling it amazing Then I saw gameplay and thought it looked like any other fps I'm sure lots of people pre-ordered I just have no clue why
Exactly what I was thinking. This game releases TOMORROW. They refuse to show gameplay, the early access edition costs 110 dollar, world's are probably even more empty then your regular Bethesda game. This is Cyberpunk all over again. The red flags here are so blatant and people pre order this overpriced garbage like crazy. It's absolute madness at this point
If you expect any kind of market impact due to your concept of "morality" you're going to be continuously disappointed and tired. People buy stuff they like and enjoy, the "vote with your wallet" spiel is a myth and always has been. Their "scams" will have monetary consequences when they stop providing things people want, you can get frustrated that people want things you think dont hit an quality bar for what "they deserve" but all they deserve is what they knowingly pay for. We have a cynical economic system, if you approach with anything other than cynicism you're going to be perpetually confused and outraged for no good reason. I do not find gaming tiring because I exclusively pay for stuff I know im gonna like or at least will only dislike because of taste. Totally ignore any idea of "industry health" or "the state of gaming" and immediately all discussion about "WAOW! [corporation] prioritized profit over user enjoyment???" immediately becomes as meaningless to you as it rightfully should be. Under the circumstance a corporation tries to scam you regarding something you want, simply steal it, problem solved 100% of the time.
I did wish you covered the drama that happened with the cancelled Fallout Online. This lawsuit is so stupid, because Bethesda wanted Interplay to make a Fallout game without references to the Fallout universe.
The issue with the mod community scandal over paid mods is the fact that for a lot of us, mod development was a hobby or clout thing. I get people wanted to esrn for their work, but some of us were just having fun.
Its really fucked up wo think that the whole game industry seems to rely on the players taking a beating from these multi billion dollar companies who at every turn try to lie about their products, implement as much extra bits of monetary incentives and at the end of the day they might just one day make the game into something no one will ever play because it depended on one or more features to run at all. The ball has always been in the players court to demand more innovation, better content and less bullshit that that favors game companies and game companies only but time and time again people simple eat up whatever is shat in front of them. Be it from ignorance or lack of perspective theres semingly nothing that will turn the tide in the consumers favor here and it feels insane to me to see it happen every year with another controversy passing by as people either forget it ever happened or they are pacified by a "fix" that manages to make the thing they bought more usable.
I'm not sure what is more chad-like: >making boobie mods because you just want boobies (and in Skyrim case because you want to create one of the best adult games). >making boobie mods to uphold our God given right for free expression. First one is about honesty, but the second one is so grandiose.
No boobie mods fall all under the first category. There are way more "controversial" mods on the Nexus that Bethesda would love to get rid off. Those fall under the second category. No matter how messed up a mod is and how little you personally agree with it's content, it is the right of free expression that everyone has. Nobody is allowed to take that away and there are some really messed up mods out there.
Is it a hot take to say I believe every game bethesda has made since Morrowind was worse than the last? Because every game Bethesda has made since Morrowind was worse than the last. It reminds to be seen if Starfield can buck the trend, but Fallout 4 was pretty fucking bad.
8:47 Idk how to explain it but theres a big difference between valve letting people make money off their skins for a F2P game and bethesda charging me for some of the, and i cant stress this enough, most mediocre and immersion breaking mods ive ever had the displeasure of using in a game.
Some modelers will fully render out characters for practice, even if it never gets seen. Ellen Page got upset when people pulled the camera away from one of those PS3 storytelling games and realized her model while showering, while not shown in the cutscene, the model itself was anatomically correct... Not surprising it happened in Oblivion, I'm guessing one of their character modelers wanted the extra practice or whatnot, while the other/others didn't.
