I heard this song once about 10 years ago and it so moved me. Seeing Hugh sing it is both inspirational as a Christian and worship singer and wanna be actor. He is so talented.
Actually to those who did not know, this song was written and performed by Morris Chapman before it was picked up as cover performance by Sandi Patti several years later. Do also check out Silvie Paladino's perfect impression of Sandi Patti's recorded version.
He sang it at 'Carols by Candleight' in Melbourne in 1998. He also sang, 'Come sing a song of joy' immediately before this and opened the show with 'Oh Come all ye faithfull':)
I've been having a major Hugh Jackman attack right now. I'm at the point where it's 10 pm on a Friday night and have watched 3 of his movies in a row. Plus countless Hugh videos on RU-vid, including this one. I love his singing voice. He could make millions if he becomes a singer and comes out with several albums in the next 2 years.
I have listened to all the post of this song on RU-vid and sad to say the man who wrote it only has 2,334 views. When this song first came out in the 1980's his version was so popular that is played on all the major stations in Los Angeles. It was even played on the classical music stations. Now my dear cousin is surplanted and forgotten by all it seems. Listen to Morris Chapman's version of this song. He wrote it.
Samantha, I hear you! Morris Chapman's original version is indeed the very best! I once had an accompaniment cassette, and sang that song at every Christmas opportunity I got! It is a very moving song - timeless and fresh. (I forgot it in someone's player the last time I sang it some years ago, and the guy never gave it back - so I consider he stole it.) I was invited to sing again this Christmas - and I have a feeling it will be one of my selections - once I can get the track. I just love it! His star will never grow dim - and so too, this song. Would you believe that right now I am hunting all over for the first original accompaniment track? Can you help me in any way? (My singing engagement is in about 10 days!) Thank you, and God bless Morris! I in fact like all his songs. I used to play them for my mother who is now deceased. She used to enjoy them and his voice so much! When I drove to work I used to play his CDs...a loving voice - he loves God! Please write to me and help a sister out!
of all the things ive heard him sing. ive been browsing youtube watching his clips. this is one of my favs. i love it. everyones comment for me rings true.
Even though Hugh Jackman is an actor by profession, I firmly believe he could have been a very, very successful Christian singer. I love how you can see the true emotion when he sings this song, or for that matter, any song. This one touched my heart, and brought tears to my eyes. It is my firm belief that God has His hand on Mr. Jackman, no matter what he does. He is blessed. This video will be posted to my MySpace right alongside Michael English, David Phelps and the Gaithers.
@kevinnjanethenry1 Yes - won a Tony for his lead performance in "The Boy From Oz" a couple of years ago, as well. Check out his performance as "Curly" in "Oklahoma!" - he's quite good.....
Even though it is not perfect and he is sometime out of tune - and no one can tell me that it is or that he is not - I'm getting goose bumps all over my body, 'cause he's singing with so many emotions it's just wonderful and I, personally, I fell in love with this. :)
I've always been a big fan of Hugh Jackman, but I never thought that he would sing religious song. I mean, I would expect celebrities to sing something like Winter Wonderland, whether it is because they don't believe or just to be politically correct. This is really nice. And yes, he sings really well!
wow... powerful voice you got there hugh, certainly earned my respects.... but there are better (christmas) songs from him...we three kings for example...still a wonderful performance
Love Hugh, but I don't like his snatchy musical kind of singing technique here. I didn't feel inspired at all by listening to his version of this beautiful song :-(
