I met Betsy on a few occasions and she was simply awesome and so personable. I really miss her bluntness and honesty. May God hold you in his arms. Awesome job to the filmmakers.
Whenever you watch the original Friday the 13th, never forget that all the horror occurred for the love of a lost child, and Ms. Palmer captured that grief and madness brilliantly in her acting.
As a flight attendant on a major carrier , I was lucky to have many people on flights from all over the country & world ~ that included celebrities ~ I had the Lovely Betsy Palmer on a flight in which I had time to chat with her during my flight ~ she sat just behind First Class and I offered her champagne 🥂 in which she indulged ~ We talked about her career and the movie Friday the 13th ~ and everything she shares here is exactly what she shared w/ me that flight ✈️ We had laughs and a enjoyable time discussing her career mostly , with her asking about me ~ she was down to earth and totally unaffected from the Hollywood scene ~ I admired her so much and still have her autograph ~~ To Stan ~ thanks for the fun and for the bubbles ….. signed Betsy Palmer ~ Still have it ! Along with so many others over the years ~ what a wonderful woman ❤️
Although slasher movies are no longer on my watchlist, I still have some great memories including Betsy’s timeless performance. R.I.P., Betsy, and thank you for this very special interview.
I appreciate you posting this. I don’t know why, I’ve loved the Friday 13th movie since they came out. Funny story behind that… My grandma used to love to take me to the drive-in theaters when I was, I guess I would’ve been seven or eight years old when this movie came out, and she took me that night when Friday the 13th was playing, not knowing what it was. When the first kill happens, she wants to leave… But I begged her to stay and watch it. She sat there with her hands over her eyes, terrified what I’m watching. that was my first introduction to horror movies and I love them to this day. In any case, I had never even thought to look for interviews with Betsy Palmer. I’ve been watching a lot of Friday the 13th interviews and information about the movies and fan films, which some of them are incredible. Once again, never thought about looking for interviews with Betsy Palmer. I’ve seen interviews with the rest of the cast from different movies… But never thought to look for her. So this was a treat. I wish we could have had video of her watching along with the movie, commenting. almost like a Director’s commentary… Simply to have it, as we watch along with the movie, to hear her commenting on the scenes. As I think that would’ve been incredible. But, this alone was just awesome. Much appreciated. I wish she was still with us, because she reminds me so much of my grandma.
Thanks for your comments and personal story. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Some friends and I had dinner with Ms. Palmer the night before the showing, and she was quite an interesting person to say the least. The stories she told us about Old Hollywood... For the screening, she wanted to sit with us and experience it along with the rest of the audience. She said it would only be the second or third time she had watched it. I saw her once more after that at a film convention in New Jersey, and she was just as gracious as when we had met. She was a class act all around, and is definitely missed :)
this woman will always be Pamela Voorhees. nobody could had played that character better than she did. it's a shame she has passed away cause I would had loved to meet her and ask her questions as well.
Being a Christian, I don't watch horror films. But back in the day I had fun watching them. Friday the 13th is a classic...I must admit. Predictably gets dull, surprises are superb. This movie has surprises which is a great element in filmmaking. I am grateful Mrs. Palmer took the time to share her thoughts on doing this film. Life, itself, is full of surprises.😊
This lovely lady talks about the unedited version of F13. She is so right. The artistry of the kills is destroyed in the R version. But they were so envelope-pushing that at the time it didn't make a difference that they were censored.
Does that unedited version ever surfaced? I heard so many times that the ratings board threatened a X rating to the F13 movies unless they make cuts to many of the kills.
@@PungiFungi Yes, the 1st one is easily available. It's called "uncut". Even the clips here on YT are mostly from the uncut version. Basically, when the hitchhiker gets her throat cut and the councilor gets the axe to her face, you see them drop out of the frame. In the R version, the screen turned white before they could drop. There is an overhead view of Kevin Bacon's arrow through the throat that isn't there in the R version, and the Mrs V beheading is one continuous shot where the hands come up reaching. In the R version, they cut away to Alice's reaction. And you are right, ALL the films have had the kills severely cut to get their R ratings. However, part 9 is also easily available unrated. You see the girl in the tent split in half, as well as other MUCH more explicit things in the film. Even though part 9 isn't always the most popular one, the unrated kills are GREAT.
Oh my gosh people!! Had I known about this event and knew none of you were going to react when she spoke, I’d have stolen one of your event tickets. Then I would’ve jumped up from the front row and given her a big hug. Then had a private, enthusiastic conversation with her the whole time!
I saw that movie , " Friday the 13th " , almost 40 years after it was released on tv . And although Betsy Palmer stole the show as the killer , Mrs. Voorhees , I didn't think that that was a very scary film . As far as I am concerned , a horror picture that belongs in that pantheon of truly terrifying films was " Straight Jacket " , which was shot in black and white , but nonetheless was , in my opinion , perhaps one of the creepiest shockers ever made .
I wrote a fan fiction years ago called birth of jason. I wrote of what she described pams background to be only a few diffrences. Her famil rejects her jaso s dad does marry her but leaves her when he sees his boy is a mongloid. She runs through the rain with him until the christys take her in the camp. Another thing was that jason didnt drown but was raised by a diafigured hermit in the woods. He taught jason how to set traps and live off the land. The man could talk but jason couldnt so he couldnt say he wanted to be back with his mother. The old man relizes later he is dying a d has jason kill him. Jason finds a map to lead to the lake but when he gets there as mentioned in the opening of the seco d he sees his.mother decapitated thus beginning everything we know. Also i established a bond where while pregnant pamela felt she heard her baby talking to her and jason of course always heard his mother talking to him. This being a bond of morher and son that can never be broken....
