Interviewed by David Hartman on April 7th, 1981, just as "Bette Davis Eyes" was making its way to the #1 position on the Billboard chart, where it would spend nine weeks before winning Grammys for "Record of the Year" and "Song of the Year" and become the biggest hit of 1981.
This is my favorite interview of all time, and I edited a clip from "All About Eve" out of this interview so that it could go back onto RU-vid in commemoration of twenty-three years since the passing of America's finest screen actor and one of our greatest stars and human beings.
Thank you to the eBay seller/Bette Davis fan who ten years ago provided my father with rare Bette Davis interviews that became my best Christmas gift of 1999.
WE LOVE YOU MISS DAVIS!!!!!!!!!

Probably one of the best interviews with Bette Davis at a relatively peaceful time in her life. The one, and only, Bette Davis.

She’s such an intelligent informative human being. Lovely to watch these videos of her at this point because she’s reflective still ballsy but very reflective. It pained me to know her daughter would hurt her so much after this I hope she regrets the day she scorned her mother. But I have a feeling she is as bitter as the day she did it.

And is it JUST an irony that both Crawford and Hyman's ONLY claim to fame were the trash books about their mothers? As much as they try to hide behind "ulterior" motives (Crawford to "help others" and Hyman her warped Evangelical Xianity and how she "loves mother") it became obvious that the only reason they even got the sales they did on their trash was the celebrity/legacy of their mothers. Hell, Crawford has been on a 50-year "Greatest Hits" tour (PUN intended); with a new edition every 10 years with freshly regurgitated or defecated material for the public trough. None of them have even a drop of talent their subject mothers had and yet they have made millions off slagging their mothers.

Love Bette Davis. She was the cream of the crop. In this interview, she seems quite herself -- not camping it, just being reflective and candid. I read she was quite fond of David Hartman and it shows in this interview.

I thought it was ironic that she said she doesn't have ego or a "big head" and then goes on about her pride about her Yankee New England background and being the paragon of the Protestant work ethic. Also, she makes it sound like her relationship with her mother was great, but it wasn't so in real life.. it was VERY contentious. And that's the amazing part of Bette Davis-- she tells HER story the way SHE wants it.. And it's engaging and interesting. That's why she was/is an icon.

Definitely from a different era. There was a theatric presence even in interviews. And her ethics explain why she was successful while too many people living today aren't.

All interviewers after Dick Cavett/Mike Douglas talk more than they listen. They have all tried to be edgy blatant provocative without success. I love everything Bette Davis but wish this was an another DC sit down chat.

She always refers to major other female stars by their last name only.. not wanting to credit anyone any more than she has to...I saw her credit Shirley Booth for a role that she regretted to have turned down, now... saying, "Booth did a great job"

She always had a dark aura to her. like why is she wearing a funeral outfit? Her daughter B.D Hyman talked about how heavily she was involved in witchcraft and the occult that’s why she’s talking so much about luck. Sad. so many in hellyweird were/are ungodly.

There was a hell of a lot more to Betty Davis than that. I know of her daughter. Her daughter's a good Woman, a SAVED Woman. But realize, that AS her daughter she's always subjective.. never objective
