Two of my favorite singers, two different singing styles, well, however, when you are as talented as these two genuine ladies, this is what you get, pure magic. Great clip, it is a shame that Bette's series didn't make it, besides the show was lamely written for the Divine Miss M! Dolly and Bette are real people, both ladies are what you see, they put on no fronts, real people in every sense.
A lot of women singers don't like performing with other women because of the way the industry creates competition (we see this referenced in the show's fictional world in the end scene) but Bette and Dolly are above the fray--completely giving and oozing with talent. This is a very special performance. They should've done an album together.
@kcovillo me too.. Id buy it on 8-track if I had to - but honestly, both of their voices blend so well not with just each other but many other artists too.... especially dolly.
What 2 great talents and their voices blend so well togehter, Yes they need to a Duet CD. Put them on CMT Crossroads. Have them play Branson and Dollywood. Have them come to my house. I better stop or I will get in trouble.
I defy any drunk such as myself to not enjoy the hell out of this. Helps if you live in a faraway land, miss home in an abstract way, and if mom had Bette Midler records when you were a boy! (Dolly's performance needs no such precursors!)
I think It would be great, Dolly & Bette out on the Rd together, I think ther would be much singing done tho, But it be a brilliant comady show. Take care
Madonna was from a different era. The "Material Girl in the Material World" was right in tune with the materialistic, big business '80s; Dolly and Bette emerged during the '60s and '70s when things were more loose and free, when things weren't so over-produced. Hard to imagine Madonna and, say, Whitney Houston sitting around singing together like this, but that's mostly to do with the current times.
Too bad they never did a film together! Maybe they can find a part for Bette in Dolly's next film "Joyful Noise" with Queen Latifa due out late next year.
i used 2 be obsessed w/ Bette midler now im absoulutely Dolly's biggest fan gunna go c her soon talk bout her at least 20 times a day hey is the full episode on utube?
From as far back as I can remember, I have thought of Dolly Parton and Bette Midler as the greatest singers in the world. I was delighted to find vidoes of them singing together. My heart almost stopped beating in shock when I heard them refer to someone as being "a queer" a hateful prejudice term. I would have never thought that of either of them, and have never heard any of any of them do that before, in all the years I have listened to their music. How sad they stooped that low!
If you are a Dolly fan like I am, you'll like my band's version of Dolly's song, "Me and Little Andy". Check out our video and you'll see why most folks say we've got the best country band on youtube.
