I'd say that he wasn't completely honest on the first interview, because is obvious that he didn't acknowledged Chuck because he just wasn't ready to do it, so he gets pushed into this situations between his feelings/grief and his goals as a lawyer and the kind of person he wants to be, and the kind of life he will live from now on. In the end he gets cornered, and maybe some of the words he spoke really could've expressed really well how he was feeling, but these words didn't hold the weight that they should after Jimmy ended up coming to terms with the fact that the complicated relationship with his brother ended on such a tragic note, in the end basically he was pushed/forced to skip steps from the process and now it's on a constant fase of negation or lack of acknowledgment to the suffering that the loss of his brother has caused him to have.

Kim Wexlers facial expressions throughout that last scene say so much, she knows she’s helped create a monster, whereas she dabbles in moral ambiguity for like a guilty pleasure thrill, it’s like she’s finally realizing Jimmy is not the same. It’s one thing to occasionally indulge in a guilty pleasure, it’s another to watch an addict give up trying to resist and just say screw it and plough full speed into it.

I read the scene differently, especially in hindsight from later seasons. What sets her off is "one guy was actually crying". Meanwhile, she was crying in there. I read on the internet that Jimmy really died in the scene where he starts crying in his car. I think that's accurate. I think that it was Jimmy McGill the whole time or the most of the time in those first three seasons of BCS. He was a problematic maybe, but he had a good heart. It wasn't Saul Goodman at all. And this last season it was like fight between Jimmy and Saul, like who takes control over him. What we saw when he breaks down in his car after he talked with the girl, was final, or one of final glimps of Jimmy McGill. And than, the whole next scene with him and Kim, was Saul already, the fake, amoral and egocentric guy from Breaking Bad. Or maybe it's not exactly the same version of Saul from Breaking Bad right at the end of the 4th season of BCS but he's on the way there.
@naylik2562
@naylik2562 5 лет назад
Deepskies that's some deep shit
@TheTolister
@TheTolister 5 лет назад
Yeah of course. Jimmy's "death" could be rather symbolic, or something like that. I would say that the crying scene in the car had it's deeper meaning. He was "Jimmy" at the moment because he was sincere, he felt sorry for himself. It was no time for his cons, or his acting, nobody was there and he could be without his mask at the moment. "Saul" persona was embodiment of his self that always could persuade people, the person which was full of himself. The part of his character in which he was making fake or exaggerative emotions to manipulate with people was him in his element. And he always did this, but this time, it was too amoral and only for his goals. I would think of the show that it has a main character with two characters inside him. Breaking Bad had Walt/Heisenberg, and Better Call Saul has Jimmy/Saul. Of course it's more complex than that. It's rather symbolic meaning.
@colbystewart1102

Jimmy got totally screwed up by Chuck's final words to him. His entire life had a purpose - to make Chuck proud of him. And for Chuck to die with the words "Truthfully, you never mattered all that much to me" put a hole in Jimmy's life and purpose where now he is only out for himself. He has realized, I can't live my life to please anyone else. I never will be what they want. It's all about me now. And the writers have done a brilliant job [in my estimation] at depicting how a sweet guy can transform into a *Saul Goodman.*
@moezart187
@moezart187 5 лет назад
literally i was thinking about that too, the show creators did a brilliant job, they literally used the silence perfectly, its like they are communicating using the peoples expression, behaviour and all, and its not just Jimmy that we see develop, we also see Mike And Nacho (not alot really) idk I personally have watched a hell lot of shows on netflix and i can say without a doubt Better call saul is the best. @@moezart187 I agree, all the actors on the show and especially Kim are excellent at silent expression. Watching Kim transform from excited to appalled in that last scene is an awesome example. But it all starts with the killer writing. Such a well crafted show.

Jimmy keeps mentioning people being saved from fires in his concs, as the ultimate show of a good person and a hero. Whatever he says, it's obvious he's not over Chuck, and the flashback just showed that Chuck and Jimmy loved each other, it was just toxic, because Chuck loved him, but in a "you're beneath me" way, in a "I'll always have to take care of you" way. It's just sad because if both of them had been better to each other, things may have gone another way. If Jimmy had cleaned up his act sooner, if Chuck's parents may have listenedto him or loved him (it'sobvious that Chuck feels his parents never loved him as much as Jimmy, no matter how good he was), if Chuck had being able to give Jimmy more of a chance, things may have gone better. Jimmy breaks because the world doesn't allow him to change to a good person, no matter how much he tries. Chuck breaks because he will never be liked or loved, no matter how much he tries to be "good". It's a tragedy.
@eskimo289
@eskimo289 5 лет назад
Well... that scene only showed that Jimmy and Chuck had one drunk night where they were tolerant and cool with each other. But their relationship as a whole wasn't loving. Especially when you have an older and younger brother with no parents around... the older brother has quite an influence on the esteem of the younger. And as Dr. Phil would say... "It takes 1000 at-a-boys to erase one you're-not-good-enough". And Chuck gave Jimmy tons of you're-not-good-enoughs to bury Jimmy in a bitter grave marked as *Saul Goodman.*

The best con of all. A 9 month year old con. A con so convincing that at one point I thought his emotions for Chuck were real and he would break down crying. However the only time he cried was when it was all about him. About how realizing how he would never be good enough to be respected by the lawyering world. So he finally chose to embrace his alter ego identity, Saul Goodman and do it all for himself. He played Kim and us. Genius writing. Never seen a show like it. Bring on season 5. Can't wait to see it develop further even though we know how it truly ends. Again, genius writing.

I think both his initial bar hearing and his appeal share very interesting contrasts. His initial bar hearing, he shows sincerity- with the exception of his feelings to Chuck, because he suppressed all of his emotions related to Chuck. However, he still (likely) thinks he doesn’t care, so it’s at least accurate to what he believes now. His appeal, on the other hand, is not accurate to what he believes, but is true to what he did believe prior. He once saw Chuck exactly like this, and would describe him as so. These were his real feelings at some point, as you said.

The Left Panel Kudos to you sir and your perception. Mike Ehrmantraut would be proud. Correct on both counts. That's the lightning fast Iceman in the lightning fast MP4-20 - a match made in heaven. Alas reliability wasn't the forte of the last of the V10 monsters so it ironically became the fastest loser in history. I wonder how a meeting between Jimmy and Kimi would go. He'd pitch an idea and either get a light smile or a "leave me alone, I know what I'm doing!". Somebody like Max Mosley probably needed a lawyer from the Slippin' Jimmy school of law bending though.

This hurt. I knew it was fake, I suspected it, but a little part of me was hoping that it was real, that Jimmy actually meant what he said. And I think in part he did, I think he meant what he said about Chuck, the things he said, but used that to manipulate people. Some people are saying Jimmy was ALWAYS Saul, always a bad person, but I doubt it. I think Jimmy has a big heart, and actually cared about helping others, he makes it clear he is passionate about lawyering when he is trying to get his license back. But he always had this crook inside of him, though it's not who he is, just a part of him that he always tried to keep in check, and who nobody believed could actually do it. That's when he decided "I'm gonna be who you think I am, why try anyways if you will never believe I can change?" and then he turned into Saul Goodman.

I feel like Jimmy really IS being, in part, sincere in this moment. It's true that all he ever wanted was to make Chuck proud, to have his approval and be able to truly stand eye-to-eye with his brother. And in his own way, Jimmy does believe that he's never going to be 'enough', that he cannot be good and everyone will hold him back if he tries--it's the root of his apathy. I think Saul Goodman/Slippin' Jimmy is his route of coping. He doesn't have to go through the complicated process of mourning a loved one if it's all an act, if he is truly in control of his emotions and using that fact to game the situation. He does not need to grapple with the fact that Chuck wanted nothing more than to hurt Jimmy with his parting words. He doesn't even need to process his own guilt in the situation. If he can stomp out those emotions, take all that hurt and bury it down and use it to feel like he's in control of them, as opposed to staring into them head-on like a mirror, then it's all good, man.

I like to imagine this was all genuine and true from his heart. Jimmy didn't die with Chuck in the fire, he died in this very court room. Jimmy has never been the best with being honest with himself, and this is the one moment he let's part of that slip. In the end, his pride won't let his true feelings come to fruition, if anything this moment allowed him to clear his conscience and leave it behind him, possibly for good.

In the first hearing Jimmy lied because of his denialism and suppression of his feelings regarding Chuck but he considered himself being honest for the same reason, as he was very disconnected from himself at least regarding Chuck. In the second hearing Jimmy was honest because Kim had shown him the right way but he considered himself doing the mother of all scams. He chose to become Saul to finally get rid of Chuck and his kind, who he has come to believe will never accept him as one of them. So actually when he talks about how he admired Chuck and wanted to be like him he was telling the truth and lying both at the same time. Because when he told that, he already had given up any ambitions to become "moral and respected" to finally get rid of Chuck whose envy and hate haunted Jimmy throughout the season.

Rational PoC he wasn’t fully honest, they wanted him to talk about chuck in the first one, when they asked him who influenced him to go Into law. He started law to impress chuck and Kim, he goes into that law library after seeing Kim all impressed with chuck’s law acumen. And he was always trying to gain chuck’s approval. But all he could say was “university of American Samoa, go land crabs!” So part of the 2nd hearing was true but that whole “but I can try to be like chuck” and everything after was just a bunch of theatrics
@maniacmasturbator2411
@maniacmasturbator2411 5 лет назад
Rational PoC it shows in the scene that he went to the law library after Kim was impressed with chuck’s law acumen, but he also wanted chuck’s approval. They showed a flashback, I think the first season, when jimmy told chuck about passing the bar and asking him “are you proud of me?” and chuck says yes, obviously insincere. And then later when they were arguing, jimmy said “I thought you were proud of me (for passing the bar)”, and chuck tells him “I was proud of you when you were in the mail room”. Because chuck just has to be in such a higher position than jimmy to feel good about himself. Jimmy obviously wasn’t influenced to go into law by the university of American Samoa. When he gave that answer, you can see the board’s reaction shift, mainly on that one woman.

Rhea Seahorn’s acting is just awesome, I really hope she can finally win the Emmy she deserves.

You know whats funny?jimmy os so smart and good at manipulating people..but theres one thing he cant do,and that is reading peoples mind or understand whats going on inside of her..its not the first time that kim is shocked by his actions and is questioning their relationship but he just doesnt see it even though its written on her face..this the moment she realises once and for all that jimmy is not the man she wishes him to be

I relize now that Saul is exactly like Heisenberg. He always wanted to be a good guy but he was just good at cheating and finding easier way to get what he want and later he relize that he enjoy it. Same characters but different stories :)

Saul was bad from start and walter white was breaking bad because of a cancer, walter white was a good person but jimmy never was, jimmy was always bad.

No he wasn't that bad from start. I see you didn't watch carefully. He tried to be a good guy but people didnt want to give him a chance, even his own brother so he did what he was good at. Same Walter, with that brain he had he knew he deserved something better then teaching chemistry in school. All he need was a little push. @@robertorpg2132

Jimmy a bad guy ?? I actually think he's a good guy doing some mistakes , and if I'm being honest I never cared for Walter , but with Jimmy I expected every episode for things to go better for Jimmy

@@robertorpg2132 Jimmy had his downside as do all of us when we were young.. but he wanted to do good and to make his brother proud. That's all he ever wanted. After chuck saying he never cared since the beginning and how saul saw how the world treated "fuck-ups" like him that's when he decided to give no fucks and just "win" in life to shove it up to those peoples face.

It's a gorgeous show, i love the slow burn pace and the character development is the best of anything out there. Michael is my favourite character but all the characters are complex and intriguing.

Am I the only one who thinks this scene is basically the writers doing a serious “This is the moment blank became blank” scene?

So this is how it ends for Kim. This scene makes it clear that she just gives up on him because he's not the man she thought he was but it's all good, man. Saul Goodman is here and that's what I've been waiting from as I sat through all these seasons. Totally worth it. Now I hope the show continues for atleast 2 more seasons.

I think the main theme of the whole series is about masks. Since he was a kid, society has always put a mask on Jimmy that did not reflect who he really was at all. Even in the small microsystem of the close family, his mother attached to Jimmy a mask (the one that Chuck, drunk on hate, later refers to as “Precious Jimmy”) and refused to see how he was actually a whole different person from the start, stealing money from their cash desk (yeah she was his mother, but still). And even after the adolescent phase of “Slipping Jimmy”, while he was trying to follow his brother’s steps, convinced that he was actually moving on, becoming a better person, Chuck forced that mask onto him, despising him (the climax of all of this is of course his speech during the trial and “you never really meant that much to me”). At this point Jimmy thinks that if he is the one to choose his mask, he will be free (we know how this goes so not exactly freedom but sure a hella load of money). In a way that is the same path that Walt takes and that all of us take, conflicted between masks that others attach to us (sometimes, why not, even ourselves) and our inner self. As Pirandello says, we are “ One, No One and One Hundred Thousand “. Pirandello basically says that the only way out of this is trough madness though, so... 🍾
