Great video that all fpv pilots need to see if they don't know. Mine is .18 expo with just a little curve. I don't recommend a lot of curve and expo because you can go from a little throttle to no change to an extreme change. That causes some problems for me. But completely linear isn't pleasant either- lol! Without the knowledge you supply in your video, we might not be able to find our sweet spot! 😉 Thank you for sharing Tmac!
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 4 года назад
Thank you Jason! Much appreciated👊Thanks also for sharing your expo setting with others. Obviously it works extremely well for you based on your silky smooth flight videos! I completely agree with you about "not a lot of curve" to avoid sudden, aggressive throttle jumps--too SCARY!😨
@billmcdonald4335
@billmcdonald4335 Год назад
I fly exclusively in Angle mode. I have my throttle inflected at the hover point, use maximum expo in both BetaFlight _and_ OpenTX, and have my throttle center at 0.95 - yup, 0.95. I limited my motor output to 47%. With this setup, I get the maximum movement around my inflection point, with no power spiking causing the craft to shoot to the Moon. Also, limiting the motor output tames the quad's reaction when bumping things and running along walls.
@coolhanddruid
@coolhanddruid 4 года назад
Pretty new to this stuff, but have built a couple quads now, that ended up high authority. Low throttle control is/was my biggest issue. At first I had some heavy pitch props which were making the problem even worse. Ive since been going to very shallow props, and pinching the sticks instead. For finer control. Came across your video while thinking there has to be some other ways to resolve the problem, and or further increase control. Already I have been playing with throttle expo, and mid. But now I'm kind of having issues that things just dont seem as peppy when I want, with the shallow props. There is so much sweep in the throttle that its hard to hold for precise control, and cross the full range without wanting to shift my hands on the remote. I wish I had the options that you do, I'm using the DJI remote, and just making changes in Betaflight. Would be nice to be able to set up a custom curve like you did.

Have you tried limiting throttle in Betaflight? It's one of the 3 tips I mention in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z4NzPmb3sNs.html With the latest BF Configurator you may need to do it with the CLI, but it can still be done

Will this work better than percent scaling of the throttle? My Mobula 6 HD modded to a 75mm frame bobs up and down and I have a hard time keeping level in indoor flight. I changed the throttle to 85% weight in Open Tx with the complementary -15% offset. It did improve but not smooth enough. I didn't want to do it in BetaFlight because it's so much easier for me to have this set up as a separate model in Open TX and still keep the original intact in case I mess up. I was confused when you set up in curve menu at curve 6 instead of "3" which is the channel position of the throttle. Then when you went next to the mixer graph I didn't see why it was automatically there. Guess I need to rewatch. But thanks for this and it may turn out to be what I needed as I get into it.

Excellent, easy to understand !! Question: If I want a soft landing, what would the configuration be?
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 3 года назад
"Soft landing" just takes a lot of practice. I have my arm/disarm on a switch. To land, I normally hover as close to the ground as possible and disarm. The quad "drops" about a foot to "land". That's my "soft landing" landing 😁I don't normally land on concrete

I use a little bit of expo on my throttle and having great control. Also different motors have different curve. For example blackbird, Johnny and f60iii motors are very smooth and give you a lot of precision on low throttle while brotherhobby and t-motor pro line are very touchy and harder to manage in freestyle.
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 4 года назад
Hey DK! Great info, thanks! How much expo do you use? Do it through Betaflight or transmitter? I also found out through monitoring channel outputs for this video, the fact I had the "ratchet tensioner" on for my throttle stick was making my channel outputs "jump" in increments of a few at a time rather than smoothly. I have since loosened this on the stick. Better outouts now!

did you mean to say "45" @ 3:48? Because thats what was on the channel when you were hovering, not 25. Or did you indeed mean 25? and if so, where did you get that number from?
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 2 года назад
I meant 25. The number 25 was displayed in the middle of the OSD screen shown in the lower left corner of the video. That is the throttle position % shown on the OSD. The number 45 is the "channel value" shown on the transmitter. Remember, I'm showing 2 different ways (Betaflight and then OpenTX) to basically accomplish the same thing. So, I use the number 25 for one way and 45 for the other method. I mention this at 2:25 in the video
@kyakfsh
@kyakfsh 3 года назад
Have you tried using the betaflight throttle curves with version 4.2? I'm using the blackbox to compare RCcommands to RCrates. Reviewing those logs, expo on pitch, roll, and yaw are working properly. Scaled throttle limiting also works properly. But, throttle expo and midpoint offset are not working. No matter what I set for those values, the throttle rates track the stick inputs exactly. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 3 года назад
I have not used Betaflight 4.2 for any of my throttle curves. I use OpenTX to setup throttle curves in my transmitter as explained in the video. I do not believe you can change the position of an inflection point (such as your throttle position at hover) within Betaflight (see 4:00 - 4:30 of this video), so I just find it easier to use OpenTX for throttle curves

@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 2 года назад
If your throttle is controlled with your right stick moving up and down and your yaw by moving your right stick left and right, it sounds like you have a Mode 1 transmitter. This type is used mainly in EU. If you want Mode 2 (throttle on left stick), I am not sure how to accomplish that in this transmitter. You may need to open it up and physically change the position of the gimbals and have them plugged into the same cables they are currently using. Or, research "changing Mode 1 to Mode 2 on BetaFPV Lite 2 SE"

Ok did I miss something? He went from 45 on the radio to 25 in BF. Is the explanation between the relationship of these two numbers in one of the other videos? Why is there a difference?
@TMacFPV
@TMacFPV 3 года назад
This is explained beginning at the 2:41 time mark of this video. OpenTX and Betaflight operate on different "scales.' the OpenTX channel "numbers" go from -100 to 100 whereas the Betaflight throttle position goes from 0 % - 100%.both of the4se values are displayed in the text on the video as I am doing the hover flight and the throttle position of "25%" is displayed on the OSD screen of my goggles in the video as I'm doing the flight as well
@MarkJaquith
@MarkJaquith 2 года назад
The formula for this is: ({OpenTX value} +100 ) / 2. Be sure to include the negative sign if your hover point is negative. So for this video, (-45 + 100) / 2 = 27.5, which he rounded to 25.
@MindRiderFPV
@MindRiderFPV 3 года назад

@TMacFPV

Fairly certain DJI doesn't run OpenTX firmware on their transmitter, right?!😔If you're running a Betaflight Flight Controller, you can still to do throttle curves in Betaflight (I think I mention that in the video) and also throttle limits (scaling is what you want). ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Z4NzPmb3sNs.html
