Being organized is the key to having more time in your woodworking shop and more money for tools, and Steve has stumbled onto an innovative new way to organize all those pesky screws, nuts, bolts, nails, washers and other "stuff." Out with the coffee cans and cheap plastic trays and in with the new Quantum Tip Out Bins!

Tip: For commonly removed bins (usually ones with screws/nails) neatly hot glue a magnet into the bottom. This way, if you have the bin sitting on your bench and you send the bin flying while carelessly swinging a chunk of wood around, your scattered mess is somewhat contained. And since it’s hot glued, it can be removed fairly easily if you ever want to repurpose the bin /magnet or if you don’t care for it.

These look great, but WAAAAAY too expensive. They must have 14k gold screws that come with them. Great looking shop though. Looks well planned out.

Great video. I watched your video two days ago and bought 5 of the 9 bin and 3 of the 6 bin off of Ebay that night. I installed them today. Took all of about 15 minutes to get a perfectly level install. The quality is top notch. I have tan walls so I ordered the ivory color. Without your video I would have never found them probably. Please search Ebay for them because it was much cheaper than anywhere else I could fine. The seller was Zoro. I got free shipping on purchase over $50 so keep that in mind too. I will never buy that cheap plastic crap ever again. A little pricey starting out, but you can tell they are built to last. And the plastic bins are crystal clear. Plus there is several different ways to mount them, including 16 inch centers, which is what I used.

For about the same money I was able to buy a card catalog with 144 drawers at a local library sale. You can still find card catalogs and index card cabinets for less than your wall there. I have mine on casters so I can roll it to where I need it or I have it filled with plastic trading card boxes. I have a lot more storage than you for about the same money but instead of plastic I have dovetailed oak drawers with incredibly smooth pulls. I would not trade it for anything at this point.

What a waste of money. Sure they are nice bins but lets face it for that money they should be made of metal and not plastic which is hard and brittle and they do break when you drop the little compartments. I worked for a company years ago wasted thousands of dollars on these bins and most all of the drawers are cracked from being dropped by various workers. Granted when buying for yourself you take better care of things but accidents happen and everyone who has a shop knows who MURPHY is.

BS commercial for a product. As for the hardware box on 13 inch centers or what ever it was...mount a board on the wall and attach to the board.

Nice. Wish I could afford it. A little pricey but there aren't many good cheaper alternatives. They split manufacturing between USA and Canada so we know the quality is good. The tip-outs are made in Canada.

Isn't that a quantum jump, actually? Changing energy levels or some such? A quantum leap is either that TV show or a large/drastic/sudden change or development (the latter being more common, in my experience anyway)

I bought these for a steal, a set of 3 rows on clearance at Menards for $15. Yes they do feel brittle ( had to superglue the side nibs for 4 of them), I would not pay more for the quality of plastic but they are sure the best way of organizing fasteners I have used.

What you see in this Video is way to expensive. You can get the 9 Bin Strip on Amazon Germany for 19.55€. The bigger ones are more expensive, up to 57€. The Manufakturer is "Allit" and the German word for those Bins is "Klappschüttenmagazin ".

Go to your local hardware store and ask the manager/owner to order the ones THEY use (they WILL have them but not know how to find them). Have them look in their "Store Supplies section of their catalog under "Tilt Bin. (True Value SKU# (331298, 331306, 331322, 331330, 385655.ACE SKU#s will be different) )They are VERY reasonable - I know - I own a hardware store.

Great video! And even better bin system. I see a lot of people complain about the price. Here's a tip Menards sells the same setup as these, but theirs are called Wonderbin. Same exact size and stackablity. They only cost 9.00 for 2 strips of the 6 bins, and 9.00 for 3 strips of the nine bins. I have a wall full, and they are every bit as durable and have the exact same features. If you need more or if someone doesn't want to pay the price. Hope this helps people.
@downtoearthwoodworks
@downtoearthwoodworks 10 лет назад
Thanks for the great tip... unfortunately, after visiting 4 Menard's locations I found that their "Wonderbin" was a one-time deal, they are currently on clearance, and probably not coming back as a regular product. The Wonderbin is, indeed, almost exactly the same, however the individual tip-out bins are not interchangeable with the bins in the Quantum system. This is only important if you sometimes rearrange the order of bins to keep things straight (like I do). I did manage to find the last 5 packs of the 9-bin Wonderbins and bought them all. I will use them! Wonderbin was manufactured in Israel. They have a web site, but as far as I can tell, no other US distributor. Hopefully someone will "step up" and start importing these or Menard's will change their minds and bring them back. Certainly the price IS better! Thanks again!!!

I priced these on Amazon. too much! the large cabinet I would need to organize all my small parts and hardware at one time and not do it piecemeal, would cost $1,486 49 + $495.00 shipping x4! the cost of these organizers outweighs the stress factor. I'll stick with my cheapo parts organizers and will have more money for project supplies and tools!. thank you. . .

Being a "Jack of most trades" I don't think I will ever get organized. From standard nuts, bolts, machine screws, washers, button head, hex head, flat head, torx head, and then all of the same thing in metric! then there's rivets, special fasteners, Kreg, wood screws, nails, automotive... AAAAAGHHHHH!! GREAT video though, and thank you for sharing this!

Well... I haven't had a lot of time to think about what I would have done different - I'm still too busy "doing." I know I probably would have put in one more window. It's a trade-off, you lose some wall space, but I like the fresh air (when it's warm enough!) and the extra light. As far as what's next, I'm working on the design & build of a new miter saw station. It is going to have a cool (I hope!) way to collect dust from, arguably, the messiest machine in the shop. Thanks for watching!!!

I thought you started out this video by giving us the advise of not wasting our time or money? Well, these tip out bins are expensive in my opinion and I'm no cheapskate. I do very well and earn well into 6 figures, not just over the threshold, well over. Still, with plenty of money for my over equipped shop (for my skill level) including a load of Festool tools that I use once or twice a year, these are ridiculously expensive. $59 for a "strip of 6" is a non starter for me. Sorry, wasted video in my opinion. OK, lets move to the next valuable installment and forget this happened.....🤑💲💲💲💲
@TheAristotleQ
@TheAristotleQ 12 лет назад
I never fault someone for spending money in their shop. Anyone can spend whatever they want on their tools, storage, supplies and materials. But I tally $284.40, before shipping, on what I see hanging there. I think that's pretty exorbitant. For me, it just doesn't represent a good value, when for that money, I can build a bank of twelve drawers, all inclusive for less. Sure, no clear bins. But drawers can be labeled and relabeled. And I get 10 times the storage space. But to each his own.

"...quantum leap ahead in storing nuts and bolts..." Yeah, it's called several wood shelves and some tupperware containers! It doesn't get any cheaper than that! Com'on, all this ridicuoulus spending on modular systems and slant out trays? If you don't want to build the shelves, just stack the tupperware. You can even label them, as I do, with printer labels or the sort. Oh, did I mention cheaper???? Look at the price of the Quantum Crap!!!

I just quickly did the same exercise on McFeely's web site and the total came to $396.94, and that included a 2-bin unit which alone is $142 and a 1-bin unit which is $104. I don't use either of those two largest bins (I still use coffee cans for that stuff!). Example, on the 2-bin unit, each bin is 13-5/8" x 11-1/16" x 8-7/8"...I've got drawers in my shop that are not that big! For the small stuff, the Quantum bins are very cost-effective. I agree, the biggest of the bins are very pricey.

Thank you for this. This kind of bin is exactly what I was looking for. I like the fact that they are 'covered' so no dust accumulates and that you can fill the whole bin AND it tilts so the stuff comes out pretty easy. It's 2019 now and I guess the prices have come down. Still not cheap, but I think I can get along with only the 9 bin rows and they are about $13 each. May be worth it for the design. Gonna go see if I can find them even cheaper.

Every once in a while, McFeelys (www.mcfeelys.com) has these on sale, and I try to pick up a couple more when they do. I just added three more of the "four-bin" units about a month ago.
