Thanks for this. Absolutely blows my mind that I can stream games at Ultra settings from my PC to my deck over WiFi 5 with no noticeable latency... Super cool!

Moonlight is so dang awesome! The only disappointing part is how bad Steam Remote Play and PlayStation Remote Play are in comparison. I never get disconnects or compression artifacts with Moonlight or Parsec, but other services are almost unusable, when it should be possible on the same network
@brad7957

@@EhurtAfy maybe it's a lack of hardware/processing power required for encoding/decoding
@EhurtAfy

@@brad7957 Could be, PS5 has 10 teraflops so it seems like it should be alright for light h264 transcoding. Maybe it's relaying to Sony/Steam servers. Idk, hopefully with Sony's upcoming streaming handheld, they improve the software side of things. I'm sure Steam will improve and Steam's implementation is not that bad except for disconnects and slowdowns

@@EhurtAfy Thanks for the info on Parsec. I just tried it a few hours ago on a beefy 13900K with 64GB RAM, and a 4090 for Pete's sake. It still gave me terrible performance and artifacts left right and centre. I will try this instead. And for the record, I was replaying on a MacBook Pro Max (M1) over Wifi 6 which gave me a ton of drop outs, literally unplayable. Tried over 2.5Gbps wired in, and it was way better, but artifacting was terrible. How does Moonlight handle the Xbox controller?

IMPORTANT NOTE: You have to enable UPnP in Sunshine to stream over the internet (as opposed to just streaming on your LAN). This was working great for me at home, but was unusable away from home until I figured out the need to change this setting. Maybe this is mentioned in the video, but I didn't spot it.

A couple things for folks having a tough time getting the "add games" part working at 8:00 - if you press shift + right click on your game shortcuts, you will have the option to copy the path of your shortcuts to paste into the Sunshine detached commands box. Also in Sunshine, make sure you click the little green plus sign, and then click save at the bottom.

For those experiencing the “Connection Terminated Error -1” like me every time you connect, I found the culprit to be an audio device, strangely. If you open up your audio devices by right clicking the sound symbol on your PC (windows tray bottom right of screen) I had two audio devices called something like “Steam microphone” and “Steam stereo”. When I deleted these two devices, I was able to connect fine with no problems.

Working good for me so far it took ages to get it running smoothly but I finally did it. I also set up Tailscale so I can experiment with WiFi streaming because I'm upgrading to a range of 400-600 mbps WiFi speed in 4 days when I'm currently on 150mbps (its serviceable, latency is pretty much infrequent). LAN seems to be pretty fine as it is as well. But I want to get the best experience possible so I don't have to really game directly on my PC again and just game around the house. This also means I can stream emulated games from my PC to my Deck. I don't need them natively to drain the battery life and heat up the Deck and also not run as well as my PC can. Also storage is limited on the Deck so this is perfect. If only the Steam Deck had an OLED screen, it would be pristine.

Moonlight works great for me on the deck with one pretty large caveat. If I put my steamdeck to sleep while its running moonlight and then wake it back up I get signed off my desktop for steam. In fact it seems to happen if any non-steam game is open on my deck when it wakes up. Seems like a bug, I know its supposed to do that if you are running steam games but it's not supposed to happen with non-steam games. I have a ticket open with valve so hopefully they have some tips.

Had nothing but problems with Sunshine/Moonlight between my PC in the office & steam deck in the living room. Have a direct network connection to both. Of course steam deck dock constantly has to have power unplugged. Also have an HDMI cable run from PC to living room AVR. I'm guessing it's the AVR that's the issue. The sheer amount of nonsense I had to go through to get it to work was maddening and it was through Steam streaming. It absolutely did not want to work in Game mode on Steam deck but the games would show up in desktop mode. Would be willing to pay to a company that could get everything to work one click. This tech has been out forever. Doesn't seem worth it if Nvidia is shit canning the concept out of greed to push people to their paid monthly subscription model. Scumbags. All that being said when I got it streaming to the Steam Deck/Dock while playing at the full 4k resolution of the 77" LG Oled in 7.1 stereo through the Marantz SR8015 Jedi Fallen order looked and sounded amazing. Considering the LG has WebOS, which includes an Nvidia app to stream from video cards they host directly it should be possible to install a streaming app directly onto the TV that's on the same network as your gaming PC. I think there's a ton of cash for the dev who makes this happen.

Which HDMI dummy do you use for the Steam Deck? My LG monitor and RTX 3060TI card support 1440p and that’s what I’d like to stream since it’s how I normally play on my rig. Is there a dummy 1440p or dummy 800p for the Steam Deck? Just not sure which one to buy so my monitor doesn’t stay on all day.

When you’re streaming a game it should switch your audio over to ‘Steam Streaming’ automatically. Nvidia game streaming is being removed. This means you wont be able to stream to Nvidia shield. There is no native pc streaming to other device - that’s why moonlight exists. Sadly this does not work for me the way I wanted it to. I've been using Parsec and it's been going great. I just wanted to test the alternatives (see if quality is better, latency and all that). However my problems with Moonlight+Sunshine are simply that I cannot (from what I can tell) keep my Desktop monitors closed while I'm connected to the PC with my steam deck. That's what I want. I have Wake On Lan, open the PC and connect to start playing, but apparently Moonlight doesn't want to do this while my monitors are closed. Parsec does this wonderfully and automatically sets the resolution for the client (the steam deck 1280x800) just like it would be a monitor with that resolution connected. So do you know of a way for me to run this with my monitors closed and Windows running (and sending me) 1280x800 stream?

Great video, thank you. One issue I have is that when in the stream, pressing Start + Select + L1 + R1 does not bring me out of the stream back to the Steam Deck desktop, it instead just pops up a message in the corner about "Action Set Activated Gamepad" and "Action Set Activated Desktop". I just have to hold the power button for 2 seconds and it brings me back to the desktop and says "Connection Terminated". It's not a big issue, but I cannot seem to work it out.

@steamdeckguy
@steamdeckguy 9 месяцев назад
Not true. This is the streaming resolution. Setting it higher than 720P is pointless and you’ll likely get stutters. If you have a decent Pc you can set a higher resolution in game to get supersampling, but it won’t be blurry. If it is, then you may want to drop the video bitrate
@bestonyoutube
@bestonyoutube 9 месяцев назад
@@steamdeckguy Nope. You have zero idea it seems how Moonlight and Sunshine work. If you dont set the same resolution on client and server you get stretch and blurry result or black bars. nothing you want. Obviously this is even more critical here because of the 16:10 nonsense. you need a 16:10 resolution on the server.
@steamdeckguy
@steamdeckguy 9 месяцев назад
@@bestonyoutube I have no idea, yet you came here to watch my video? OK… Fact is, If your PC is set to 16:9 ratio (in windows) and you stream at 720p the game wont look blurry on the deck and you won’t get black bars on the side. Of course, if you have a super fast Wi-Fi connection then be my guest - set it to max. The point I’m making is that for most people it will look fine in 720p. Changing resolution in game will improve the visuals without impacting streaming performance. FYI when I did this video, my desktop resolution was set to 1440p, the game to 1080p, and moonlight streaming to 720p - all 16:9 ratios
@bestonyoutube
@bestonyoutube 9 месяцев назад
@@steamdeckguy Sorry you dont know what youre talking about. 720p is 1280x720 the Steam deck has 800p so it needs to be stretched which makes it blurry. maybe check your eyes? 1080p is just a multiplicator of 720p not 800p, same for 1440p, same result even worse because of not multiplcator by 2. you can configure Sunshine, that it executes a batch file which automatically sets the resolution to 1280x800 so it is native resolution and changes it back to for example 1080p when you disconnect, but obviously you knew this right.
@steamdeckguy
@steamdeckguy 9 месяцев назад
@@bestonyoutube Jesus Christ. Please stop. Yes, the steam deck is 800p, but we are talking 720p here. 720p can display natively on the steam deck, you just get black bars at the top and bottom (not a big deal) BUT it’s definitely not blurry or stretched as you seem to be suggesting. If you want full screen 800p then as I said you need to set PC resolution to a 16:10 ratio. Using a batch file is one such method, so you are actually saying the same thing….but being an asshole about it

You have to remember remote playing your PC to your steam deck in another room uses your internal WiFi - your internet speed is irrelevant. Therefore you’ll want to make sure you have a strong signal, that is not on a busy channel, and ideally at least 5GHz (6 GHz even better). Most of the routers you get free with ISP are rubbish, so you may want to consider investing in a better one. Sometimes mesh networks can cause issues too, so keep that in mind.

Rewatch the video at 9:00. You should keep the command cmd.exe /c (the c command here tells the command prompt to close after opening the link). @White0Forte
@White0Forte 2 месяца назад
Hey I noticed on my steamdeck, after finishing a gamepass game, the stream would continue to run (since it's running as a dettached command). I figured setting a "main" command that I could easily close was the option so it would prompt Sunshine to actually exit, but couldn't find one, so I whipped up this bash script: @echo off echo Starting program... timeout /t 10 echo Checking .exe status :loop tasklist | find /i "GAME" && timeout /t 5 /nobreak > nul && goto loop || goto exit :exit exit Save this as a .bat file and use it as the main command. Notice it says "GAME". You have to find the name of the executable using tasklist inside a cmd.exe window and what exactly tells you there, is the name. For example, for Octopath my gamepass executable is Octopath_Traveler-Win64-Shipping.exe, however I get 'Octopath_Traveler-Win64-S' using tasklist, so that's what I used in the script and voilá. This has to be done for each game you add.
