Oh good, ANOTHER bag that I can't live without 😂

Seem like BxB could re-invent the traditional Panier (pan-yer) with some of those design elements. Specifically - the materials used, the side pockets, and the detailed design to shed water.

Thank you for reviewing this bag. I purchased a BXB bag several months ago, after seeing it briefly reviewed elsewhere. It has found a permanent spot on my on/off road touring bicycle. Lots of room to store various sized items while maintaining an easy to access closure system. Construction is solid and well thought out. My version does not have the two-side pockets, which i wish it had, but that is a minor quibble. If mounted on the handlebars, full pockets might hamper bifter/brake operation should your handlebars be on the narrow side. At the time of my purchase BXB offered two different sizes of bags. The bags appear to be in a continuing evolution of improvements. I give the bag two spokes up. Thank you for your review .... please keep them coming.

Depending on how much longer you want it, It should be possible to source some extra strapping and one of those clips and make an extension strap that you can keep in case you need a bit more length to that internal strap. Nice bag and nice construction.

Totally distracted by the matching Zulu strap. Kept trying to figure out which watch you’re rocking today. That X10 really looks like waxed canvas. Looks great on the front or rear, but would prefer to have the flap opening toward me on the front. $230 is steep, but for a custom bag like this, could be the last bag you’d ever need.

Perfect timing on the video. I wanted to ask a basic question. Why don’t people just get a bike rack for the back and strap their backpack to it instead of getting new bags?
@PathLessPedaledTV
@PathLessPedaledTV 5 лет назад
You could but you’d have to DIY the mounting, make sure the straps don’t go into your wheel and add stiffeners so it’s not a bowl of jello on the sides of the bike.

@TimothyEdDoran

Partly I think that it's fashion and aesthetics. For years a set of paniers was essential and anything else was considered inferior. Strapping a backpack to your bike would be fine, especially of it gets you outside more. Happy biking
@KimAcheson
@KimAcheson 5 лет назад
Tim Doran Using a backpack makes it cheaper and easier. Around here anything not locked down will get stolen off your bike. Even if you have to attach the bag to your bike it could be gone in a few minutes. So I really like the idea being able to bring my bag with me.

Been eyeing the regular for a good while. Seems to combine a lot of my favorite elements from an assortment of saddle/handlebar bags (fabric, stability, mounting options, size). Which colorway is this one though; the khaki x-pac or? That's the main concern at this point - what color or just go with black like usual.

Depends on the geo of the the bike. The VO handles it well in the front.

It’s also fashion these days, along with front baskets. You can thank rivendell and ultraromance for popularising this look. Having said that, Iused panniers for years but it turns out that a rackbag or saddlebag and a basket are more convenient for everyday utility, even though they don’t handle as well.

Big concern is price. More like my only concern and for $200 I am never going to buy one ever. Maybe if they went on sale for $150 but definitely not worth $200. I have yet to find any bag that lasts through the shit I put it through and Ill be damned if I were to spend that much money on a product that does not even list what D spec the material is.

@maadurga
@maadurga 5 лет назад
First, I don't agree with the fabric choice. The X10 X-Pac's polyester film will turn yellow and flake off over the years, leaving you with an ugly bag and only the water protection of the exterior cotton duck. So why bother with it in the first place? Good quality cotton duck, on the other hand, will have its fibers expand under water exposure and seal off water entry. There are many stories on the Internet of people riding for hours in torrential downpour while the contents of their cotton duck bags remained dry. And even if it would get wet, the breathability of cotton duck will facilitate the cargo gradually drying up in the bag after the rain has stopped. Having cotton duck lined with a polyester film is just as if you would wrap the steel tubing of your bike with carbon fiber layers to give it a more modern look. It just doesn't make any sense. Second, if BXB would churn out 40 bags per month, instead of 20, it would presumably allow them to lower the margin per unit and thus the price, while the gains would simultaneously go up. If they prefer the present scheme because it allows them to get more free time, props to them, but I won't bite. Snob products for snob people.
@PathLessPedaledTV
@PathLessPedaledTV 5 лет назад
Maybe consider that Jay has a full time job, he is the only one sewing them and the business is less than a year old and he’s not artificially restricting supply like Rolex? Also what would be a non snob price for you and still pay a living wage?
@maadurga
@maadurga 5 лет назад
My second point was based on assumptions, because I obviously don't know him or his personal situation. If the information you provided is true, than I take my words back and apologize for bashing him. Even more, I would strongly encourage him to further explore the ways of bringing a decade old design into the modern age (Carradice, are you listening?). My gripe with the material choice still remains, though. To answer your question about the personally acceptable price point for such a bag, it would be about half of the actual price. That would be in the same ballpark as the RRP (in the UK) of a large Carradice bag, and on top of that I bought mine with a 30% discount. Those are also made by living creatures called people and even have their individual names handwritten onto them. Even at an equal price point, I'd still probably choose the Carradice over an BXB bag. You know, what's already out of style never goes out of style! 😁
