MTB Manual Machines are all the rage right now, but if you’re going to have a do it yourself build to improve your riding - the balance beam (and the drills that I’m going to run through) is the best bang for your buck. You can easily build the beam for about $20 and have multiple levels and widths to practice and take your bike balance and MTB skills to a new level.
In this video, I’ll show you a few different takes on building balance beams, and then four different techniques for bike balance training that you can practice on (and around) the balance beam.

I hope this video helps your improve balance on the bike - I am working on more tutorials, and if there are any tutorials you would like to see, please comment below.

Super!!! I was just looking for a balance to build, width, length, simpler, more difficult level. I am very glad and grateful that I have the opportunity to watch your interesting videos! Thanks a lot!!!

Nice videos. I can ride a painted line on the street for ever but as soon as height is involved I get sketchy.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 3 года назад
Height adds such a huge element to it, right? Been thinking about doing another balance video, and trying to include some helpful tips for exactly that.

Great idea! I'd been practicing on some 19mm * 90mm decking board off cuts just laying on the concrete, only problem I had was that I had multiple off cuts so if I went off the side, it kicked one out and I had to reset the whole thing. Totally stepping it up to something like this, it will be narrower than the smallest box at the skate park, but also lower and at home. I'm way more worried about trashing a rotor than anything else when I'm riding the box at the skate park! Heck I even have spare timber, hinges and screws. Meanwhile, keep up the great videos Lutze Time!

Right on! Stoked that you’re getting it set up - the rotor thing always scares me the most on big balance lines - those things aren’t cheap!
@Teracis
@Teracis 3 года назад
@@SuperRiderTV I've not bumped a rotor yet, but have a pulsing issue with the brakes. The manufacturer is going to take a look so I sent them away yesterday, hopefully they come back spot on and I can get back to practicing! I'll use the bmx while the brakes on my street trials bike are away though.

That’s the move - and when you get the trials bike back, it’ll be that much easier!

I think you could connect the lumber using a mortise hinge/butt hinge, instead of brackets, and then you'd be able to change the height without using a screwdriver.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 3 года назад
That’s a great idea, actually - then you’d be able to move it around an modify it on the fly! One of the next steps I’d suggest once you have the beam dialed in would be to try different angles (ascending/descending practice) - and that would make it way easier. Good call!

These are good, but... Probably not for doing manuals or bunnyhops, you should not compare them , they would be a great other trainer, but totally different
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 3 года назад
Totally agree, my point is to start first with balance and get it dialed before moving on to manuals. If you had the choice to build one or another to get a strong foundation to your riding, I'd recommend starting here and then progressing from there.

@@SuperRiderTV well... Yes but no, i actually learned to standtrack using the manual machine, to help my balance, both are great , i will build one of your design too, thanks man!

It's much easier on wide tires and a low bb, way too easy in fact. Was starting to think that Jeff and Hans are the only trials riders in the US. Pretty sure there are zero in my state, or 0.5 including me.
@SuperRiderTV
@SuperRiderTV 2 года назад
Agreed! We started a Trials Discord to help connect trials riders (there should be a link in the description of this video), and there’s a USA Bike Trials group on FB now that’s super active…highly recommend checking out both!

Why not just a curb?

A great option if you have one close by, but lots of people live where snow buries everything for a good part of the year, and it gets dark early in the winter. My garage is always snow free and has lights :)

@@SuperRiderTV Yes I am! It was perfectly timed for me. I've been squeezing out the last of mountain biking season, but the snow just started to fall. Instead of starting back on the trainer I swapped a front brake onto my DJ and started doing the 30-day challenge.
