Worth noting, it takes more than "just talking to your utility" when back feeding power. The "gateway" box that is installed with a powerwall system contains an isolation contractor that allows you to island your house when the power goes out along with distribution breakers. Most utilities require this UL cert. box to allow you to connect a grid tied inverter if you want backup power. Otherwise the inverter just off when the grid goes down. It ensures that the inverter doesn't backfeed when people are working on the power lines.

I installed this same system in my garage. My main issue with these batteries will be in the winter months. I was mislead by the sales guys that they could be used within certain temperatures and outdoor rate however I later realized the temperature will need to be around 40 degrees F for charging. Now I need to add a heating system around the batteries. Too bad they don't include heaters like other similar batteries on the market. they claim they can be installed outdoors however they neglect to mention that your house needs to be in a warm climate where it does not dip below 32 degrees.
@EricLundgrenCEO

We hear you, John! Our batteries are designed for a wide range of temperatures. If you want a battery for outdoor freezing temperatures - we suggest you buy our RHINO 2 - It is designed with heating plates and is built for this specific application you are requesting. We recommend using a battery heating system for colder climates which you will find in the "All Weatherproof BigBattery RHINO 2". We’re always looking to improve and appreciate your feedback. Stay warm and powered up!

There are "Pro's" and "Con's" with any system depending on your footprint and performance needs. EG4 is a great company but I do not believe they offer a stackable vertical battery like THE ETHOS. Do some research and you will find this one is $1300 to $1800 more then others with the same specs prebuilt and has proper certifications. . Or build your own for about $1900 with everything needed in build kits and add the batteries (no certifications for safety and might be illegal to use if tied to a grid, check with local law first) Still I think big battery is one of the higher priced batteries on the marker. Although that inverter is a nice one.

And 30 390watt panels $3568. I will be installing it all myself. Have to have a licensed electrician hook it up in my circuit breaker panel. Will be grid tied. Those with (grandfathered) Net Metering & a reliable supplier use the grid as their battery. Not only is that GT system cheaper, but it also has unlimited storage capacity. And that’s exactly why finding a utility that still offers Net Metering is impossible.
@AMortalDefiant
@AMortalDefiant 9 дней назад
'Impossible' seems pretty hyperbolic. Here in PA, the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act (AEPS) was passed in 2004, guaranteeing all customers who have their own generation the option to use net metering, and the utilities cannot prevent it. "...the law requires all electric utilities (aka Energy Distribution Companies) in the state to purchase excess renewable energy from eligible system owners at the full-retail rate". Like all things, it will depend on where one lives.

10:32 Yeah, because the system needs to be permitted, built to Code, pass the final inspection. Then the utility interconnection can start. If the steps above are not followed then we’ll have random people installing batteries without a ground, inside bed rooms, and have conductor dangling outside of conduit. Might be a good idea to hire a company to install solar and battery.

My problem with battery backups is the run time. It’s not uncommon for us to have power outages that last two days or more. Solar doesn’t work in my tree covered area therefore, once the battery power is used up I can’t recharge it without a generator. Therefore, why not just use a natural gas generator in the first place? For short outages a battery backups do well but not long term. We’ve had outages that lasted for 7 days.

LuxPower is similar to the MultiPlus II from Victron, but the Victron system is more modular and works with generic 48V batteries. For example, with Pylontech US3000C LiFePO4 3.5kWh, which are significantly cheaper and more redundant (because each has its own controller). The wiring is just as simple. This is not meant to be an advertisement, just another example. For DIY, I would strongly advise against DC strings. I like to do everything myself, but even with LuxPower, you have to connect high DC voltage to land in the correct MPPT range. High DC currents are EXTREMELY dangerous and need special protection. For DIY, I would always recommend microinverters because you connect low voltage on the DC side, and no AC flows as long as the fuses are off as usual during installation. Besides the added safety and redundancy, you can also start cheaply without a battery and battery inverter in the world of photovoltaics and add a battery later.

With the inverter it's $10690 and you have to do the work, with the power wall it's $12000 but you get a 30% tax break so $ 8400 Equals a $2000 savings going with Tesla

Where are the LFP batteries made ?
@EricLundgrenCEO
@EricLundgrenCEO 7 дней назад
86% of all lithium batteries are made in China. Much of this manufacturing is coming back to the USA now due to Tariff & IRA. We have opened a 310,000/SF cell MFG facility in Dallas TX where we plan on producing 280Ah LFP Cells. The goal is 100% Made In The USA.

@@rustyfox81 Anytime,, listening to our customers is the only way to build a better product.. We want America's Energy Independence and aim to support that by driving down the prices of these systems. I want our solutions to be seamless to install and designed to last 12-15 years. In a few years we will introduce NA+ salt batteries driving the cost down even more. Thank you for your support RustyFox : )

Reportedly Powerwall 3 uses LFP batteries.

9 grand for a 10kw battery with inverter is not better than a powerwall 3

If you have a power wall can you expand it with this system?

You missed a lot. First, you can't connect that system to the grid without a Gateway Disconnect. Second, if your battery is full, your solar will no longer produce power. Many jurisdictions will not allow you connect to the grid w/o an electrician. You need to reveiw the National Electrical code. Not doubting the battery pricing, but there are number of steps you missed. Additionally, Tesla Power walls work along with your Tesla Connector and Solar system to automatically adjust the charge (amps) to your car(s) to onlly charge on solar. Some Power Companies do not allow Power Shifting (i.e. Souther Co's -- AL, GA) Power shiffting is charging your battery in off peak as you discribed and using it for peak time. I admire your fortutude, but this could be a dangerous recomendation to your audience. 240VAC at 2 and 3 phase inputs to your home is not a DIY project. Carefull!!

I do this myself with signature solar products but you guys arent including the price of the inverter too when comparing to PW3. That being said, id do this setup over tesla too, just because the battery chemistry is LFP, much safer and longer lasting

I'm wondering if a triple pack of batteries as your is enough to recharge your tesla at night? Let's a 10 to 85%?

Your system with the inverter is $10690 where as PW3 has a built in inverter. How does this compare? Or am I wrong.....again??
