It's a pretty cool bag. Usually I would be turned down by the downsides, but I found a good way to work around it and the pros definitely outweigh the negatives. It's unfortunate the the first Kickstarter had to be cancled, but I wish them a lot of success in the new Kickstarter in August.
Seems like a very badass bag, but unfortunately “standing upright” has a lot of weight in deciding getting a bag for me. A shame, because it looks like a very good complement for my CPL-24 for when I want something that can carry relatively small but c expand with need.
Thanks again for another thorough review. Will you let us know when the design of the bag has been finalized? FYI: I think your microphone tips do work because all voiceovers are clear and natural sounding.
Thanks, Anthony! As far as I know they will start the Kickstarter in August, but this design should be pretty close to the final design. I'm pretty sure that they will improve some of the features though
You look really badass with the bag. Haha I love your eye for details when you review things. Like how the compression straps affect the water bottle compartment
very nice review, makes me want to buy the bag! It would be even better if you can show how does the bag look when it is 50% full, 70% full and 100% full for better understanding. Hope that they will improve the design in the next kickstarter campaign :)
Hello Ismono. Since I begin to search for bags I watch your channel, great content not for the bags themselves, but for EDC and motorcycle ;). One question, I have to carry a big ass laptop around and would like a roltop, do you recommend this one or the Peloton Asphalt (Comfort, experience wise)? Big thanks from Brazil
regarding the zippers opening, that shows that the zipper is god quality and has low friction. i've had that happen on a few different packs. interestingly my spouses Deuter transalpine has a snap on the two zipper pulls so u get a pretty convenient solution to holding the zippers closed. this could probably be added DIY to the zipper pull if it was really bothersome.
you should do a roundup of all expandable bags. Is there even that many? I can only think of the LBS rolltop but this one has the advantage of the clam shell opening
The Rambler from Mission Workshop is another expandable (22l to 44l) sort of roll-top/regular backpack hybrid. Used it for awhile, but sold it since it fit rather awkwardly and just seemed too big for me as a 5'4" female if I expanded past ~25l or so. Great materials though, and I found the hip belt and straps to be very comfortable.
I don't want to buy any more bags at the moment, but I love watching your videos because they are very relaxing lol. Love your thorough review style and your dog!
How can we compare this backpack with EVERGOODS backpack . Bag styling is totally different and what about fitting n comfort like mpl30 and cpl 22/24 ? Anyways good luck for your vlog .
Hi, do you know any backpack that doesn't cost $300 and are similar to this and to Alpha 31 in the sense that are good daily carries but have this roll top design that expands above 40 liters?
Hello Jorge, That sounds like an interesting video, but also a very hard one. Medication is very different for every single person, moreover the packaging is different from country to country. In Germany most pills are in single blister (so basically 10 pills in one flat sheet, which makes it easy to pack) while in other countries I have seen pills inside of these bottles, which will take up more space in a pouch for instance. So I'm not sure if I can make a video that is appropriate for all countries.
IMO you over correct the colors. For my eye it feels that the brown colors pop more than they should and maybe reduce the vignette a little bit. Just my opinion and yet another great review. Keep up the good work!
Thank you very much, Mathias. I actually don't add any vignettes in post. I just got one light and lighting a rather big area like that packing shot does end up in such a vignette. But I appreciate the honest feedback
I guess I consider this as a clamshell loading backpack with rolltop expandability rather than a toploading bag. The wandr is still on my wishlist. I hope I can test one in the future.
@@askivan as in the features have quite specific uses in mind - there is space for pens, laptop, phone etc that don't really work for anything else. If you're carrying what the bag is designed for it's great, but not if you want to use your own pouch system or camera gear. The laptop section is really only good for a computer and won't work well for a hydration bladder or 'business papers,' as these sleeves often are on other bags
Great video thanks for this nice review. I was just wandering, according to you, how much can you fit through the back panel approximately? 25 liters? more?
Thanks for watching. That's a good question. you can fit a lot in the bag through the clamshell opening if the rolltop is fully closed. but I have no exact aproximation. But 25L sounds pretty close
True, but in this case it is rather extreme. Considering that I have a lot of other bags to compare it with, this strap changes it's length quite easily compared to other bags. none of the other bags changes their strap length that much.
Can I stuff it into my bikes saddle bags? Any other colors that might reflect sunlight rather than absorb it? Sometimes I carry cold foods and even with a padded cooler that black won’t help.
20 to 55 liters sounds amazing. not being able to stand up on its own, and having to pull up the bag around the contents, well... great review. p.s. behind the mic you look like youre getting to spit 16 bars. ;-)
Agreed. I guess I consider this as a clamshell loading backpack with rolltop expandability rather than a toploading bag. I wish I could spit a couple of bars, but my rap game is rather lame haha
Yeah, unfortunately the kickstarter wasn't successful. But I assume this was due to lack of exposure, because imho the bag is very good. Therefore they are relaunching the campaign in August as far as I know
Hah, funny to see a bag from attitude supply.. have a pair of 500d packing cubes from them.. just because it's so hard to find packing cubes made of 500d since goruck discontinued theirs.. Was not so impressed with the build quality of the packing cube.. maybe they have stepped up their game with this bag.
Yes, they have a store here: attitudesupply.bigcartel.com/ Do you have any recommendations for alternatives to the goruck cubes? I really like the 500d material.
Thanks for the link. As far as I know Goruck has created some new packing cubes. But I am actually working on a packing cube tutorial. But they are not made out of 500d.
Hey Luis. That's one from Velomacchi. I have stuff like aspirin, deodorant, band aids, contact lens liquids etc. in there. I use it like a first aid dopp kit. Or do you mean the one from Zeeksack (with the red writing)? I use that one for my mouse and charger. Check out my "Pouches and cubes" video

Bo Ismono yep I meant that second one :) I'll check your pouches video now, thanks! Btw I never commented before but been following for a long time. Great stuff, keep going!
@Bo: I am very interested in this pack. And i need your opinion on question: did you miss padded hip belts? I am plan to use it as travel minimal for 5 weeks in India. What i like is option to expand from 20-55 liters and have also full opening to access clothes. I did not find something similar. I also heard complins about sholders strap paddings. Thank you.
The shoulder straps and the bag overall is really comfortable to carry. But I personally never use waistbelts, so I didn't really miss it. But if you carry 55l of stuff, obviously you will benefit from a good waistbelt
@@Youknowthebo : Thank you for answer! I contacted manufacturer and ask them about hib belt. I think is somehow needed if you with to carry more than 30l of stuff. Here is their answer what are my options to add hib belt : "about belts, the pack will come with a removable 1 inch belt to stabilize the load, but the lumbar padding is actually open so you can use any padded belt that is less than 11cm tall with it, it is fully compatible. Maybe we will produce an add on one in the future but there is already plenty on the military and outdoors markets." For me is funny that they did not include padded hip belt from the start. It feels like unfinished backpack. @Bo: do you have any recommendation to which other company brands i should take a look if i want to add hip belt to ATD1 backpack. Thanks!!!
Hey KraKra, thanks for your feedback! Additional padded belt is now available! Feel free to reach out if you need further infos about both the pack and the belt. Uh, India is where we actually tested it, 4 weeks of hardcore backpacking travel with ATD1 as the only luggage :D
I am looking for a backpack. I need to store my laptop, headphones, wallet, glasses case, water bottle, phone, phone charger & plug. Maybe an outfit if I do a day trip. Im a bicycle commuter so water resistant is a must but I do not want it to look like im going camping. What bags do you suggest. I have been looking at Mission backpacks as well. Thank
A bag that can't stand that's a roll top. That's pretty stupid. Meaning I always have to lay it on its stomach and open from the back. Poor design choices like these make me not want to support the maker.
Pt S Agreed. It's very unfortunate that it cannot stand on its own, since I think I would have a very hard time stopping myself form backing this one. But, since I do value a bag that can stand on its own, this is a huge negative for me. It could do with soft side Velcro on the inside as a bonus. That way I can divide the section that opens form the clamshell and rolltop portion.
I also do not like this! Same goes for Alpha 31 bag. But do you have any alternative to have top opening and have full opening where it is easier to pack that way.
@@_krakra_ try Elveden Hunter. Roll top back with dope design. It's also have a side zipper. Can be expand from 5L to 40L easily. Lot of D Ring, Backpaded, good ventilation. It's comes with hip belt also. Pretty much a multipurpose backpack.
I honestly can't tell if you're happy, sad, upset, mad or tired because of your German accent lol. It's basically always one tone because of the pauses. I'm sure that's just a habit of speech from the German language.
Ich glaube halt, dass die dir echt nochmal helfen könnten deine Reichweite zu vergrößern. Denn viele von Jons Abonnenten würden sich dafür interessieren und ich habe noch keine guten Videos dazu gefunden.
