I still can't get over how a 2005 Midnight Club game has *working, functional* butterfly valves on the bug catcher scoop. Yet 17 years later the latest Need for Speed games still don't. It is one of the very few games of that era that I would say has aged well No cringy story, just a nice, simple context to adress the great gameplay The fact that they took most of if not all the realism away for the sake of fun is the reason this game is so good to come back to still today. The lack of a story or tons of cutscenes for SURE has helped it age better and prevented it from "Dating" itself too much to an era. The era is presents becomes charming instead of "Cringy" because it's not "in your face". Less is more!

One thing that I love from the original Midnight Club trilogy (not just the third one) is traveling through cities across the world. Modern day games have huge maps but it’s only one city. For instance, in Midnight Club II you travel from the U.S. to Europe to Asia. They’re so different that you simply cannot to this naturally in one big city map. And it’s just so cool.

One distinct memory I have is me spending hours in the garage with "Ratt Pakk - Spaced Out" playing in the background whilst I dump all my cash into customising my Eclipse, then once I left the garage I remember the mechanic complimenting how good my ride looked. My family had an original Xbox about fall 2004. On it, me and my dad would play Project Gotham Racing 2. That was, until Midnight Club 3 released around my birthday in 2005. An earliest memory of mine was seeing an early promotional trailer of the game, with the new for the time Chrysler 300 and various other cars - had to have been Holiday 2004, because of the anticipated ip that was GTA San Andreas . I would spend nights on end playing the game even when I wasn’t supposed to.

I would throw hands IRL against someone saying Midnight Club 3 was worse than literally any other arcade racer. Shit, I'd rack my shotgun for that. My favorite, and probably the least reproducible parts of this game nowadays are 1. How hard the game is, and how despite that you ALWAYS want to keep trying and DO eventually get it, and do so without gimmicks like rewind. And 2. The soundtrack, ESPECIALLY/PARTICULARLY in all the menus, loading screens, event triggers, and the garage. If they took FH3 or maybe Dirt 3 or the original Race Driver: Grid and reskinned it to be a remake of Midnight Club 3, keeping all the songs and menu stuff, but adding new cars, more detailed locations, and more customization; I'd drop a legit $100-$150 on it for whatever ultimate edition they came out with. Just leave the stupid microtransactions and DRM out and don't push the physics closer to the Sim side than the Horizon series. And add car meets within active multiplayer. Like 50+ player car meets, I want a whole fucking SEMA/Street Car Takeover/Texas 2k event or whatever in my free-roam racing game. *EDIT:* 7:03, dude the Bugatti Veyron was SO fuckin ugly, too. No comparison against the F1, that thing is a modern 7.5 or 8, and a classic 9 or 9.5 compared to the Veryon being like... a 4. Bugatti really stepped it up with the Chiron, to the point where if I was given a Veyron, I'd probably just sell it since it was so ugly and buy a Calvo Motorsports CM1600 or higher Viper, instead. 16:00 or w/e: Yeah, I've heard this game be called "The Dark Souls of racing games" and I have to agree, but with the caveat I stated above about how you ALWAYS want to keep trying.

Recently replayed this and played through MC Los Angeles for the first time in December after a loooooong stint of playing through NFS Underground 1-2/ Most Wanted (2005)/ Carbon/ Undercover and… Midnight Club just has that “zing” to it that NFS (other than MW and Carbon imo) just doesn’t have! MC3 Dub Edition (OG & Remix) & LA just has this balls to the wall-ness to them that makes you want to actually struggle through them! To this very day, I have a complete blast replaying through them with different cars and even toying around with different types of customizations! I can’t say the same with NFS post-Undercover…or even just Undercover itself 🤷🏽‍♂️ Edit: my only gripe with MC3 is how you can’t customize the ‘94 Impala SS or any of the Exotics very much. They completely won me over in MCLA when they allowed me to apply bodykits & a widebody to it while MAKING THE NEON/INTERIOR FREE TO CUSTOMIZE*!!! *except for the seats, steering wheels, and gauges, which you have to buy

I had two racing games growing up with the PlayStation 1: NFS Porshe Unleashed and Test Drive 6. They both just came with the console, I got it used, and between the two, NFS was the one I had the most fun driving around in. Test Drive had great presentation, and I still listen to the amazing soundtrack to this day, but I could never enjoy the driving in it. I never figured out the handling model, and so I just gently and carefully drove around the levels to see what was in them. NFS however, not only handled much better, I had a very inviting and helpful tutorial, where you had to avoid orange cones, drive down a piece of road, turn around and drive back. I understood the controls and managed to win some races. The game was prettier too, to this day I'm very impressed with what they did on the PS1. So going forward I had this imprint, Need For Speed just meant quality to me, and I couldn't be bothered to look anywhere else outside that franchise. Other racing games just didn't exist.

The customization was so much fun in this game and the severely under estimated drifting mechanics. Where if you shift to the 2nd highest gear like 3rd gear with a 4 speed or 5th gear in a 6 speed while drifting you get a stupid amount of speed boost from it to the point you reach the game's speed limit. This game was just underrated by everyone

Midnight club 3 is the game where me and my cousin will all gather around to play since the 2000s It's the game we talked the most about from that era, just after GTA SA Since our ps2s broke down through the years. The game stayed on our memories for years The cousins and my brothers moved on to different games, while I stayed with other racing games Last year, I heard the ps4 does have an actual emulator for ps2 games It's just that it's locked and only used for just a few games The only way to unlock it was with jailbreak I had it jailbreaken, midnight club run surprisingly well and not only that. My youngest brother who never seen the ps2 played His cousin of similar age where coming almost daily to play it, to the point they are making a mess around I had taken the ps4 with the good old boys and we had a good amount of fun Especially when we were waiting for others to gather to hangout Last week, got a Xbox ss Since u could emlate ps2, running ps2 games a lot better than ps4, since u get actual options to modify the emlation Because of this game, I got my old cousins replaying good old ps2, got my youngest brother and his cousins into this era Heck sometimes he would choose midnight over new games on the Xbox I wish it would get remaster, but I don't want it if it's gonna turn into a cash grap like GTA trilogy Hope the legacy never gets burned down

@m.raihanammarfachrezixpplg7898
Tbh, a couple years ago, and still even today, I'm still thinking that how the race system in this game is still the most realistic in terms of street racing. It's just felt like it's actually an illegal street race, no barriers, no limitations, just checkpoints. You had to know where you'll going through the city or you just gonna get lost. This system just kicks NFS races out of the window. The track layouts also just felt high speed. There just a little moment of having to slow down in the race. Sure that some tracks had quite a sharp corner, but I didn't mind it. Then some of them had some kind of special moments going on, which made the races feel less bland (well, even though sone of them are more annoying rather than entertaining). Some events had the moment where there will be bunch of parked cars on the sidewalk, which is one of the praise point in the NFS Unbound. Like, bruh man MC3 already did this 17 years ago. And if you think it only appears on the race, then just check the MCLA instead. The tracks also give you oppertunity to take some shortcuts, which just adds a cool point for me. The physics in this game was also good (maybe not a lot, but still). Tuners felt balanced, muscle and choppers felt drifty, exotics and sport bikes felt grippy, and else. Altough most of the time I always went to drifting, the thing about drifting in this game is that it just felt satisfiying when it pulled off perfectly. And the combination between the tracks and how physics work just made the races felt so adrenaline. About the AI, so far the only thing I found stupid is that they can use the cars that just WAY faster than yours, while you can't. Overall, they seems fine to me. One more thing I found is that it just felt dangerous whenever I hear the AI start using their nitrous. And I have to anticipate on how things will go. So this just makes the nitrous can be an actual treat against you rather than just helping the peformance of the cars. So yeah, this game stay as my most favourite, even more than MW05

Another thing I wanted to mention about old racing games in particular is how unapologetically provocative they were. Midnight Club 3 was the best Midnight Club ever including L.A. which I sold shortly after I bought it brand new. If you buy midnight club L.A. then prepare to be disappointed. It looked SO good. I was really excited about everything I knew about the game going in and it actually was sort of fun even knowing I couldn't just outskill the A.I. because it's a Midnight Club game. The first three games in this series were the pinnacle of arcade racers and the third one added real cars and in depth customization which Midnight Club L.A. actually expanded upon. The customization was on the next level, it is actually worth checking out just for that. So why did I put down Midnight Club L.A. and never play it again? Well I was progressing through the game at a pretty steady rate for a while, then I encountered a race that was just kicking my ass... and I was fine with that, even with all the rubber banding that was going on. I would get way ahead and the A.I. would magic-boost right up to me and pass me near the end and I was like yeah, I know "Midnight Club" it'll let me win eventually. But then one time I got so far ahead so close to the end of the race that I knew I was going to win... then a civilian car materialized in the middle of the road as I slammed into it in a T-bone collision. I don't think I ever came closer to snapping a game in half - not even Stunt Man (which is one of those frustrating games that you LOVE even as you joyfully fantasize about destroying the disc because you always feel like you're just one more try away from nailing the stunt). I'm fine with "magic-boost" rubber banding, I'm fine with A.I. slamming me into walls, that's all supposed to be part of the game but you don't materialize civilian cars two inches in front of me as I'm about to win as a rubber banding tool. That is something you just don't do. I've always suspected that kind of thing had something to do with the series dying.

I played NFS carbon and underground 2 and I also played Gran Touristmo before the Midnight Club franchise. I still fell in love with MC above the other franchises. The Open Maps were designed the best, very nice cars, great tuning. I loved the story. I loved the Race designs even more. I loved how in Races the track isn’t limited. If you missed a corner you could try to find a different route to the checkpoint. The music was A tier ! Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition was my favorit. LA was great too. MC is to this day my fav. I 100%ed 3 Dub Edition 6 times. And btw I don’t think it’s that hard. I really love the speed in this game

Hit restart race until you understand the shortcuts of each race well enough for you to drive like shit and end up in 6th in the middle of the race and say, "yeah, I can still win this". And then you do! Man, great game and a great video
