They don’t make movies like in the 80’s in general any more. There’s plenty that seem dated but at the same time there’s a feel to 80’s movies that’s been lost, unfortunately, regardless of genre.

@@gaveup855 I agree to this and the original comment. There's a feel to 80s movies that is often lost now. Using practical effects and actual locations made movies more authentic. Nowadays with cgi amazing work can be produced but sometimes the magic isn't there.

The 80s were the perfect age for movies. Movies before the 80s had stilted dialogue, the movies after squandered all their funding on special effects (to the point of post-millenium not paying a dime to writing a proper script),a nd then started sanititsing all fun and value out of them. There will never be better movies than the ones from the 80s.

As a kid I never understood why they called themselves Goonies but at one point someone makes reference to the Goondocks so it's really just a variation of the word Boonies...only you know, more trademarkable.
@0okamino
@0okamino Год назад
Yeah, the Goondocks is what their part of town is called. Probably started out a really upscale coastal neighborhood, but the town expanded away from it more and more, so it became thought of as boonies, and the people in newer parts of town would say stuff like “Oh, that’s the boonies where the goons live.” Something like that.

Quick trivia fact: The actor playing the dead guy in the freezer was also in Jaws as a victim of the shark. He's the older guy in the boat who gets attacked in the pond when Mike Brody, one of the chief's sons, is in the water. Mike goes to the hospital for observation.

I really enjoy your channel, Thor. A few things I wasn't sure if you caught: the kids live in a poor part of Astoria called the Goondocks... hence The Goonies. Not sure if it's been mentioned elsewhere, but Data is also Shortround from Temple of Doom. You did catch the Gremlins reference. I can't wait for your reaction to that. Lastly, there is a famous Octopus scene that was so bad that they finally cut it from the movie, but they left in the part at the end when the kids say the Octopus was the scariest part. I'll link the deleted scene below. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8hXmqpExeZU.html Thank you for your channel, man! I really enjoy your reactions.

To answer your question about whether parents were concerned at the beginning when the Fatelli brother is hanging in the cell that they may have chosen a movie that the kids shouldn't see...Well let me tell you, our parents in those days dropped us at the movie theater and didn't actually come in and watch with us. They basically left the mall to raise us. It was a wonderful time to be alive.

Yeah only the fittest or smartest survived. I recently learned that the 80s were the deadliest time period as far as serial killers go. Yet as a kid it seemed safe. We knew about stranger danger. Seems like kids these days arent as safety conscious.

@@dianedeck Well I didn't grow up in the USA and I don't know how many serial killeres were around in my country in the 80s but I didn't even dare to take a candy from a nice old lady on the bus because I had learned never to take candy from strangers. Back then there was also this urban legend spread among us about some strangers giving stickers to children to make them addicted to LSD (they had to be licked like stamps to become sticky). I heared it the first time in primary school and again in middle school. -On the other hand children were more free but also had to take more responsibility for them selves. Since we never had a car I had to take the bus alone to get from one end of our town to the other were our junior scout quarter was even in the evening and I always went to school by my self on puplic transport or on food. Turing our stay at our summer house in the country side my brother and his friend drove there bikes on the wood trails near by all day long, only coming home for meal times. No adult was with them. We didn't went to the movies alone untill middle school though. (I am Austrian just for orientation). For me it was sometimes a little bit too much responsibility.

5:50 - In this version of Astoria, Oregon, the lower-class part of town is known as the 'Goon-docks.' The kids from the upper-class neighborhoods refer to children that live in those areas as 'goonies.' It's not explained clearly in the movie. You have to put it together. 7:25 - The song playing here is the movie's theme song, 'The Goonies R Good Enough' by 80s pop sensation Cindy Lauper. The music video of the song is actually a two-parter that loosely reenacts the plot of the movie. 8:02- So between that last scene and this one is one of two well-known deleted scenes. Mikey and his posse stop at a convenience store where they run into Brand, local bully and son of the developer that plans to level their neighborhood. He takes the map from them and tries to burn it, but they save it in time. That's why if you look at the map in later scenes, the edges are burnt. 23:53 - They actually built a 100 foot section of water slide to film this scene. They made it seem longer by filming it from different angles. Story goes that the producers and crew would sneak onto the set after filming wrapped for the day and ride it. 24:00 - Those are the kid's actual reactions to seeing the ship for the first time. They were completely banned from the sound stage until it was time to film so their reactions would be as genuine as possible. This is also the location of the more notorious of the movie's two deleted scenes. As they approached the ship, the kids were attacked by a giant octopus. Data drives it away by cranking up his Walkman and shoving it in the octopus' beak. The scene was cut for time, but the editors accidentally left a reference to it in the final cut. 31:04 - This was Sean Astin's first major role. He had a number of smaller roles between here and Lord of the Rings, but he had one other major role, staring in the classic football movie Rudy. Several other notable cast members: Data was played by Ke Huy Kwan, who had previously played Short Round in Temple of Doom and recently played a major role in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Mouth was played by Corey Feldman.

This movie is a classic. I love how it shows Astoria and parts of the Oregon coast. I live in Portland, Oregon, so I always love any movie that takes place here. I actually been to the county jail from the opening scene, that was fun, got some souvenirs. Of course, we couldn't go to the Goonies house though, the owners stopped allowing tours. I also remember the museum. I remember my grandfather driving my family and I down the road the Goonies did and saw the rock formations. The two souvenirs that I got was a replica of the skull key and the replica of the dubloon. Ah memories from my childhood. Also, great video to watch on my 20th birthday.

I wore out multiple VHS of this as a kid. This movie is pure genius and enjoyment. The closest anyone has gotten to this is Super 8 and it's really just an homage to the 80s buddy adventure genre. Josh Brolin enjoys telling the story of how he snuck into the audition for this and ended up getting the part. Everyone of these kids just full sends their performance. they leave nothing behind and you absolutely believe them every step of the way. The opening sequence of this film is flawless. Introduced to everyone, you know a little about them, the music is just so good.

You know I saw this as a kid but I dont remember if it was in the theater or if we rented it. Back then renting movies every weekend was a big deal. I dont watch movies much anymore. They just dont make them like they used to.

I was so excited to see you reacting to this movie I clapped my hands and went "yeeees!" This was *the* childhood classic for me. All these years later, it's still a favorite and though I haven't seen it in years now, this brought back so many memories (all good ones). Sloth gets so happy when he's adopted by Chunk, his ears wiggle. So cute! I'm so happy you liked this one, and I can not wait for your reaction to the Gremlins movie! ^_^

Mouth is played by Corey Feldman. His first movie was Goonies. He is also a Frog Brother in the Lost Boys.

Great reaction to this great adventurous film! Besides Explorers, Adventures In Babysitting, and the 3 Ninjas teratology, I’d like to recommend Finding Ohana on Netflix which features Ke Huy Quan (Data) from this film. ☠️🏴‍☠️⚔️💎

It’s really cool to see Ke Huy Quan again. Don’t get me wrong, stunt coordinator and assistant director is very respectable work, but I’m so glad to see him back in the acting biz, too. 👍

They are currently working on "Goonies 2" (projected release date 2027). Some of the original cast is already signed on for it and Cindy Lauper (who sang the theme song, "The Goonies are Good Enough") is also scheduled to appear. A few extra tidbits: Data was played by Ke Huy Quan who (interestingly enough since you mentioned it in this reaction) also played in an Indiana Jones movie. Temple of Doom as Short Round to be specific. He later retired from acting but has recently started up again. Jake Fratelli was played by Robert Davi who's credits go back to 1977 and include "City Heat", "Die Hard", and "Licence to Kill". Francis Fritelli was played by Joe Pantoliano (aka Joey Pants). He's been in too many to name but is well known for being in "The Matrix" and "La Bamba" Mama Fritelli is played by Anne Ramsey (R.I.P.) best known as the title character in "Throw Mama from the Train" with Billy Crystal & Danny DeVito. Chunk was Jeff Cohen who quit acting shortly after Goonies to concentrate on school. He became a very successful entertainment attorney in Las Angeles. Finally Sloth was played by former NFL star defensive lineman John Matuszak (R.I.P.). He can also be seen in 1979s "North Dallas Forty" with Nick Nolte and Mac Davis.

I'm not totally sure what the actual source of the term "goonies" is, but I've always assumed it was a smash up of two words: Goobers and Loonies. He says that they're "goonies" because they're the rejects/outcasts of their peer group. So, my guess is that bullies have called them "goonies" and they've subversively reclaimed that term in defiance and pride. Great to see someone react to one of my cherished childhood favorites, btw!

Late to the party but I only just realized that like half the cast are legacies. Sean Astins mother was Patty Duke and John Astin is his step father. Josh Brolin is the son of James Brolin (and you can thank the Coen Brothers for rejuvenating his career with No Country for Old Men. They thought they offered it to James but it was sent to Josh and they just rolled with it). Martha Plimpton is, well, a Plimpton, kinda like the Hollywood Kennedys. Just kind of interesting, trivia wise.

I loved this movie when I was a kid. I'm 42 now so this came out when I was still a kid, I was about 5 or 6 and kids back then had wild imaginations cause there was literally nothing keeping us indoors. Best times of my life were those summers.
