You are so right about her not just having a hunch. She was put in undercover to get the inside scoop. That’s exactly how women communicate… through girls night out and “slumber parties”. That’s how you get the dirt. What’s the point of having her undercover if they aren’t going to use her information?

I watched this movie religiously as a kid, and I had a feeling I’d grow up and it would be a guilty pleasure. Turns out I was wrong. It’s legitimately in my top 5 favourite movies, I adore it!

Fun fact.. during the filming of this Michael caine got knighted, so the cast and crew started calling him SIR Micheal caine half way through filming. And also to make the fall look real as shes walking out after getting everything done, Micheal caine actually pushes her.

Sandra is so talented omg. You should totally check out "the heat" with her and Mellisa mccarthy. Its so good

7:59 Lamaze class is the breath training some moms go through to prepare for childbirth. So that woman was pregnant, hence the Lamaze pageant joke. Look at the shot framing at 10:22 for the tiara. The Devil Wears Prada has to be on the list in the future as well as another movie about fashion, but it's much deeper than that.

It’s no wonder Hart gets so frustrated in this movie. She simultaneously gets sexualized by the people at her work and called ugly by everyone else. She doesn’t get to sleep for three days or eat anything but celery. I’d want to quit too. Sandra Bullock has so many good movies: The Proposal, Practical Magic, While You Were Sleeping.

I Never noticed during the first meeting, the superimposition of the crown behind Kathy Morningside’s head before. Some next-level, true nature foreshadowing there.

Fun facts: The scene with Gracie coming home after the restaurant op in the beginning was only scripted as "Gracie comes home and starts boxing." The rest (tripping, kicking the bed, microwave) was ad-libbed. The "I'm walking here!" line is spoken by Dustin Hoffman's character in Midnight Cowboy (1969). When Gracie walks off screen after she yells at the taxi driver, Michael Caine can be seen covering his mouth laughing at Sandra Bullock's ad-libbed "asshole" remark. Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt did all of their own fighting. Stunt doubles were brought in only to make sure they were using proper form. The movie's theme song for the Miss USA Pageant was written by screenwriter Marc Lawrence and his 7 year old son, Clyde Lawrence. Marc wrote the lyrics and Clyde wrote the music. Beauty pageants have long been criticised for being old-fashioned and misogynistic. In 2018, after nearly 100 years of Miss America competitions, the swimsuit competition was dropped and essentially "stopped" rating women based on their physical appearance. There is also a lot more diversity as in race, religion, sexuality, gender identity and disability. It's still not my thing but it's good to see how they have evolved with time. And there is a sequel. It's not as good as this one but still worth watching. Speed was Sandra's breakout role. If you haven't seen it, I definitely recommend it. It also stars Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper and Jeff Davis. For more of a rom-com, I recommend her in The Proposal with Ryan Reynolds and Betty White.

This movie is comedy gold the whole way through. One of my favorite movies and one of Sandra Bullocks best comedic roles. “ I’m Gliding Here!” Gets me every time.

I noticed someone mentioned "The Net". That was from before Sandra was really famous I think and I cannot recommend it enough. One of my absolute favorite movies of all time and a hidden gem! Not a rom-com but more of a suspense thriller. I also love While You Were Sleeping for another rom com and Practical Magic!

Fun fact - Miss Nebraska was a Top 10 semi-finalist at the 1989 Miss USA Pageant - Miss Arizona USA Leeanne Locken & Miss Ohio placed 3rd Runner-Up at the 1998 Miss USA Pageant - Miss Texas USA Holly Mills. The choreographer in the movie - Scott Grossman - was the actual choreographer at the Miss USA, Miss Universe & Miss Teen USA pageants in the 1990s and 2000s. At the above mentioned pageants, there is no talent competition. That is done at Miss America.

Sandra Bullock’s physical comedy game is underrated. Heather Burns is freakin’ adorable. And.. Benjamin Bratt, what can I say about him ? "Vatos Locos Forever!"

Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt also worked together in Demolition Man (1993) which is a definite must-react movie.

A light, easy-going movie that has a nice message of acceptance of others different from you without laying it on too thick. The casting of Candice Bergen as the head of the pageant is a nice touch, since before she became a big star in film and of course on television as Murphy Brown she was a top model. Not quite the same thing as a beauty queen but she obviously could have been, she was ravishing in her youth. To your question about whether Sandra Bullock was famous before this film, the answer is yes. She’d been a big box office star since Speed in 1994 turned the trick for her and provided her breakout role. By the time this came out in 2000 she had a few other hits under her belt, the biggest of which was “While You Were Sleeping” (another fun rom/com if you haven’t seen it), but a fair share of indifferent movies as well. But this was another home run for her making a ton of dollars and leading to a sequel which is not nearly as good. The movie you were trying to think of when she said, “I’m gliding here!” is Midnight Cowboy where Dustin Hoffman as Ratso Rizzo screamed “I’m walkin’ here!!”. Now that’s a dark film!

'I'm gliding here' is a reference to 'I'm walking here' as uttered by Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy (1969). It is also referenced in Forrest Gump (1994), uttered by Gary Sinise.

One of the first movies I ever watched with my grandma, we would cackle and scream at how outrageously funny this movie is and now over 20 years later seeing it again just honestly made my eyes tear up a bit. We truly do grow up so fast. ❤

Love this movie! My favorite Sandra Bullock movie has to be While You Were Sleeping, with Bill Pullman and Peter Gallagher. It is so sweet and hilariously funny, centered on love, loneliness and family; just the most perfect holiday movie. I watch it at least once every holiday season. I love this movie. It was my favorite movie as a teenager.

And Kathy Morningside is played by Candace Bergen, who was the central character in a long-running tv series, "Murphy Brown", where she played an opinionated, aggravating, but intelligent and passionate tv news reporter. It was a good show, with a great supporting cast, backed up by great writing for most of the seasons, and some inspired guest casting. Hey nick! If you are a Sandra bullock fan but want something with more depth I highly recommend 28 Days and The Blind Side. She actually won best lead actress for TBS and its a true story drama. Both very good and very different films

I really also enjoy The Heat, which stars Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. Two of my all-time favorite movies are Galaxy Quest and Donnie Darko (theatrical version) if you have any interest in checking them out.

If you haven’t watched it already, I recommend 28 Days starring Sandra Bullock. I don’t think many reactors have done that one.

The only issue I have with this movie is that Gracie starts to wear heels and makeup and style her hair afterwards. It's wonderful that she's stopped being toxic towards feminine women, and washing your hair and looking after your hygiene is a unisex sign of good mental health, but that doesn't mean that she has to go full feminine. I'm very frustrated at Hollywood depicting tomboys as closeted effeminate women. They did it with Maddie in Liv and Maddie- she was made into the hypocrit and problem because she secretly adored fancy shoes. Why can't tomboys just be allowed to exist without being the tension?

Another Sandra Bullock movie you might want to do, but wait for the Halloween/fall season, is Practical Magic.

I have bad chronic pain issues that keep me at home curled up on the couch most days, so I love watching your channel to help distract me with warm fuzzy nostalgia lol ♡ If you want another amazingly funny beauty pageant movie from the late 90s, Drop Dead Gorgeous is awesome and has a stacked cast! Kirsten Dunst, Denise Richards, Kirstie Alley, Allison Janney, Brittany Murphy and Amy Adams (I think this might have been her first major movie too) to name a few lol. One of my all time favorite movies that is sooo underrated! Another one not pageant related but still super funny, is Dick starring Kirsten Dunst and Michelle Williams (also has Will Ferrell and Ryan Reynolds so that's always a plus lol) that is about Nixon and Watergate - I think people really forget how many good and hilarious movies Kirsten did in the late 90s/early 00s. Shes one of my favorite actresses and she deserves so much more credit and notoriety ♡ I could go on but these 2 are top tier 😸

I genuinely watched this movie like every chance I got as a kid. I’ve must have watched it like a 100 times. I loved movies in general and that was probably my #1 source of entertainment but Miss Congeniality had a special place in my heart.

Amazing to think you've never watched a beauty pageant! Granted, I'm old enough to be your mother, but as a kid we would watch the Miss America Pageant every September (I think the first Saturday after Labor Day). Bathing suit, evening gown, talent show and short question/answer along with musical numbers to give them time to change outfits. It was stunning. Take a look at youtube for the late 1960's/early 70's (good one: 1968- [Sept 67 competition date]) to complete your education. 🙂
