3:40 Albedo is not represented with black wings, she has black wings, perhaps it is difficult to notice as they are not exactly where wings are regularly represented and it is mistaken as part of her outfit like the shoulder pads on Ainz's outfit which is not part of his but the clothes

You can thank Tom H@ck for most of the Overlord songs. He is the creative force of both OxT (the T in that band with MasaYoshi Oishi being the singer and O) and MYTH & ROID. With the final ED the only one not made by him. But considering the singer Mayu Maeshima was the first singer of MYTH & ROID you can say he was responsible for her coming through too.

7:05 In this frame here in 2nd Ending, you see Evileye on the right side, and her old human-self, Keno, on the left side. In the Anime it was mentioned she's over 200 years old and that she's a vampire. On the left you see her as she was as a human, in the country they told Renner they'd escape to. Keno's story is written in the extra Overlord side story book, kind of a ''What if'' alternative to the main Overlord story. It was given to those in Japan buying the blue-ray. It's a superb read and one of my favorite novels of Overlord despite it not being 100% canon. It's available for English readers, just like all LNs, in English on the Overlord Subreddit FAQ.

Another fun fact about the side story given to Japanese only fans and fans translated for everyone to read: it caused the author to complain about piracy and might be one of the causes of his demotivation to keep writing. Honestly, I feel frustrated because he completely ignored an entire fanbase, at the same time, he is finishing the story earlier.

I would love to see Ple-Ple-Ple Pleides here. Though not sure about it taking over this Friday slot since we still have quite a few song re-reactions to get to. I do think Ple-Ple-Pleides fits this slot better than Isekai quartet which requires something closer to a full anime reaction slot(though I definately want that as well). Reasoning: Ple-Pleides "normal episodes" are 1-2 minutes long. along with a few 10-13 minute specials and one 30 minute "movie". Total watch time ~3 Hours. Isekai Quartet every episode is 11-12 minutes long along with a nearly 2 hour movie. (substantially more than the length of either the opening/ending songs or ple-ple-pleides episodes). Total watch time for Isekai quartet is a little over 6.5 hours ( a bit more than a normal 13 episode anime season)

But ple ple pleiades is very hard to get legally. Sure on pirated websites you'll find them, but apparently it was only officially accessible on Kadokawa channel for limited Time, and its not there anymore.

Believe me when I say this, I'm not a big reader. But Overlord is such an excellent read!! For anyone who remotely enjoyed the Anime. If I were to compare the Anime to Light Novels (Volumes 1-14), Anime would get 7,8/10 and the Light Novels would get 9,6/10. You said it yourself Luke, there is so much Lore and details/World building in Overlord. And that's only what little the Anime has shown you. They skipped a LOT of details and characters thinking to themselves in various situations. If you really want to be one of us, go consume those novels and give us a review video for each Volume! You can either buy the physical copies, or read the free, fan translated (excellent) versions on the Overlord subreddit FAQ. There's even Audible that came out with the first couple Volumes in audio format, and TTS versions on RU-vid of all Volumes. Even after reading the Volumes, if you want more, there's tons of good creators on RU-vid that do deep dives into the Lore of Overlord, its characters, fan theories, Anime vs Novels, etc. It's a deep rabbit hole! 🥴

Someone else mentioned that Climb is a blank Shonen protagonist and I agree. His character is very fit for that role. His ideals, the way he acts. In any other story he will be a hero who fights his way out of any problem and cares to protect people and do the right thing. But in overlord the power so imbalanced that all his ideals are pointless. He appears as naive and easily manipulated. Compared to that I think the difference with Gazef and Brain is that they are grounded with reality. They know their place and act with honor. One thing I noticed about climb is that he did not appear hurt when people in the kingdom were dying. He was outraged but he was primarily concerned with whatever Renner asks him to do. I think that makes his character feel like and NPC that you just take pity on but dont feel attached to him when compared to Gazef and Brain where you feel their emotions.

The Dub has great voice acting. My biggest problem with it was that in season 1 they constantly called the city of E -Rantel the capital, and the capital the city E-Rantel because they didn't seem to realize those were 2 different locations.

For isekai quartet you don't need to know any shield hero stuff till season 2. In addition, the shield hero characters are more like side characters in season 2 anyway so if you didn't know anything then it wouldn't really be an issue But I can understand still wanting to get at least some experience with them first. Also don't forget that there's also an isekai quartet movie to watch~

10:15 "Is there something wrong with me?" Nothing wrong here. Nobody likes Climb. OK, I'm exaggerating a bit, but I've seen very few comments that were enthusiastic about Climb. He's ok, but he doesn't really stand out. Gazef and Brain had their heroic moments... by which I mostly mean heroic deaths... but the built-up and the deaths themselves are amazing. My take on him: Climb lived a little as a mix of generic shonen protagonist and knight in shining armor (pretty literally)... then died early (temporarily as it was) for a princess that only existed in his mind. It could be a good story by itself, but here he's only a "good" character in a work that has too many "great" characters who outshine him by far.

I think he was portrayed as such to prevent the audience from focusing on his journey and wishing for him to realize Renner's true nature. Also, as a way to soften the blow to his eventual fate.

The thing about Climb is that his personality and appearance would normally belong to the protagonist of a more traditional anime, but in Overlord he's the least exciting pawn on the chessboard.

I genuinely wouldn't say no to a rewatch of the dub. It's one of the few dubs I actually like, there's even a few voices you will recognize from FMAB. Some characters it outright improves in my opinion, such as Ainz.

For me, Overlord is an anime about a video game viewed from the perspective of the NPCs, In video games players can be really terrible cruel and almost always acting by convenience, we dont care because its a video game and NPCs are not people for us, but how would we look from their perspective?, probably really evil haha

12:45 "What is the theme?" Short version: Isekai anime with a villain protagonist. But that's a bit too summarized so it doesn't really does justice to the series. I should add that it greatly highlights the impact that said protagonist has on the world he got sent to though a multitude of viewpoints, many of which are narrated with a high degree of immersion.

Absolutly. Openings and endings are all great. For me it is even that only 2 "groups" were involved for them: either OxT or MYTH&ROID/ Mayu (for the few who don't know: first fem. vocal lead of M&R). This means you don't have to get used to a new band and you have the switch in season 3 - which was definitely a good change.

For me the Overlord endings ranking 3>2>1>4. I'm a sucker for the symbolism of the dark cracks encroaching on the various characters as Ainz's presence is felt in their lives. My opening ranking is super tough but the only thing I'm sure about is I like #1 the most.

Music suggestion: The entire soundtrack of Grimgar: Fantasy and Ash - (K)NoW_NAME does most of the music for the anime and it's all great! There is also a version of the ending that is sung by one of the VA's. (The anime itself is also pretty good. A lot of struggle and growth in an isekai fantasy setting.)

You know thinking about Overlord, two of the main long running plots are two very messed up love stories. These would be Ainz and Albedo, and Renner and Climb. I was thinking about how you liked Gazef and Brian/Brain better than Climb, but I did notice neither of them seemed to have a special lady in their lives. (Brain did get that tempting proposition from Gargaran but didn't take her up on that, really the main woman in his life was Shalltear Bloodfallen.) Rumor has it that the end game of Overlord is going to be focusing on the Ainz/Albedo love story (though that could just be a bunch of fan theories), which wouldn't surprise me. Of course 4 seasons of plot were driven by Renner's goal of eternal romance with Climb...

It's known as "that village" by the people of Nazarik .. apparently their security network is very troublesome even for lvl100 rangers like Aura so infiltration and information gathering is quite a bother since the goblin army has shown up ^^ /edit and Climb .. I'm just happy he's got one of the few happy endings in overlord we get his character sheet in the end and his title is Renner's Pet and his hobby is the same as Renner's .. I think you can guess what XD

You can watch it again in english dub you know 😂 ( well english dub is kinda fire like I'm not even joking some of the ainz dialogues hits way harder in dub. As a person who has watched both of them if you watch it then i can guarantee that you won't regret it and i will be there. there's actually some reactors on RU-vid who has done it )

You should definitely rewatch overlord , not necessarily in reaction videos but at least for your own enjoyment . There are a lot of good foreshadowings in overlord that you get only after rewatching ( even after 2/3 rewatches you might realize a detail that you never picked up ) .

6:42 I honestly see that as a flaw with the overlord anime. It's a damn good novel, but the anime feels like clipnotes of a great story, leaving you unfulfilled. That's why I'd give it a C+ at best, the studio doesn't know how to make an entertaining show

The problem with Albedo's relationship with Ainz can be spotted in one of the scenes where she is alone (sorry don't remember the exact episode, it's one of the final ones in season 2). When Ainz says the Eight fingers kidnapped Tsuare in this action stains the name of the guild, Albedo reacts irritated, as if she don't care about the guild and only about Ainz. She is obsessed with Ainz as a person because of the changes that he wrote in her backstory and this obsession overwrites her loyalty to the guild and Nazarick, but Ainz to some extent still sees the guardians as loyal guards of the guild even if no Supreme one (including him) is not around. Theoratically if Albedo's obsession will guide her into thinking that Ainz and her will be happy without Nazarick or some of guardians (and now she is alive and has ego, and power) she can start a mayhem, because other guardians have their backstories just fine being loyal to Nazarick and the guild.

It seems like they used Climb as a sort of story-telling aid more than as a character. We saw Gazef and Brain's progression through his eyes with a tease at him possibly becoming the main hero of the city in the future.

Oh and don't feel too bad for hating on Climb a bit. Most of the community of light novel readers agree Climb represents the typical MC, he is very basic, as many characters in the show actually point out lol. So it's pretty normal to not like him as much as the other flashier characters around him. I personally don't hate him, I can appreciate his efforts to become strong (even without talent he's actually like top 20 strongest royal guard in capital) and his backstory is actually explained a bit better in the novels. But he has his flaws, the biggest being he's too naive and doesn't see Renner as the others do, in the end. He's her puppy and willing to be, now for eternity inside Nazarick haha.

on that Climb situation, he was porposefuly written as you generic blank shonen protagonist and while i did care about him a bit (im a sucker for tragic stories), i think its completely understandable to not feel anything towards him he is just... there. a symbol of hope and youth on this macabre story, but alas, it was not meant to be...

I agree with the part that he's a blank Shonen protagonist. His character is very fit for that role. His ideals, the way he acts. In any other story he will be a hero who fights his way out of any problem and cares to protect people and do the right thing. But in overlord the power so imbalanced that all his ideals are pointless. He appears as naive and easily manipulated. Compared to that I think the difference with Gazef and Brain is that they are grounded with reality. They know their place and act with honor. One thing I noticed about climb is that he did not appear hurt when people in the kingdom were dying. He was outraged but he was primarily concerned with whatever Renner asks him to do. I think that makes his character feel like and NPC that you just take pity on but dont feel attached to him when compared to Gazef and Brain where you fell their emotions.
