@@youraverageavgeek2918 Maybe, but it was also because of the backstory of the members of PKN having Down's Syndrome, and just how many people knew of them because of that.
@@youraverageavgeek2918 Nahh, I think is because they have down syndrome and they were still absolutely killing it! The bookmakers maybe thought that the world will sympathize and vote them high...but the song is just not good. Indeed though, there are countries that buy their odds placement as we have seen with Malta this year.
Eurovision 2018 was the most shocking. We saw many favourites staying in the semis, while 4 out of the top 5 were not even in the top 10 before the rehearsals. Also Cyprus was out of top 20 before the rehearsals and became the most favourite entry of the year. Great video❤️
The final seemed almost like a drawn out weak semi-final, with no 'stand out' song to put it frankly! I mean would Azerbaijan have even made top 5 in 2012?
@@orangebear280 Actually the only song from 2011 that I like a lot is Georgia. I think this would be in my top 10 in any ESC year. Apart from that yeah 2011 is one of the worst years really together with 2017 for me.
Unfortunately I don't have all datas for a video like this :( If someone of you has some screenshots of betting odds before rehearsals in 2011-2014 it would fantastic to send them to me.
Different Eurovision fan websites like eurovoix.com etc. Especially for this video escxtra.com/2021/03/29/eurovision-odds-14-years-history/ but there are just top 10 / 15 of the odds before rehearsals...
@@PlatinSam I thought there was a website where you could go back in time on websites. Sadly I forgot how it's called (and I don't even know if it still exist/works) - but maybe that will make it easier to look up such data?
I think Malta 2021 flopped for 2 reasons. 1. Bad running order. 2. Too close to Toy (staging was similar, pace was similar, there were other things with that song that were also close to toy).
They were 1st for a really long time. People were thinking their narrative would be enough to make them Lordi 2.0. That notion turned out to be WAY off.
Just a quick analysis regarding the betting odds: If you’re top 1 in the pre-rehearsal betting odds I think it almost guarantees you a top 10 placement in the grand final. Only 2011 didn’t make it. 2012, 2013, 2015, 2018 & 2019 tho were the betting odds’ favorite to win in pre-rehearsals and actually won. Meanwhile if you’re at least top 5 in the pre-rehearsal betting odds, it does not assure you a good placement but it only happened once (Finland 2015) that a song failed to qualify. Ergo, based on trend: if you’re top 1 in the pre-rehearsal betting odds, there’s 90% chance of a top 10 placement, 70% chance of top 5 and 50% chance of winning. Meanwhile if you’re in the top 5 of the betting odds, chances are you’re 98% going to qualify, 78% chance of getting a top 10 placement, 60% chance of top 5 and 16% chance of winning. There is no absolute guarantee tho that you’ll place well. Top 10 placement in the pre-rehearsal betting odds isn’t an assurance really that the entry will qualify. There have been numerous cases already of that. So had 2020 Eurovision taken place, Victoria could’ve reached at least top 10 (high chance of top 5 and even winning) and The Roop, Gjon’s Tears, Dadi and Little Big would definitely qualify and likely to be at least Top 10 in the final. This is just a short observation of how betting odds may reflect actual results. Take with a grain of salt since there’s no 100% assurance but only based on historical trends.
Same. Undo was my favorite to win in 2014 but I think Rise Like a Phoenix grew on me better. Undo was a more immediate song to like but looking at the 2 performances now, I think Austria’s staging was just incredible and looks expensive and grand that year compared to Sweden’s which is in the more simpler side.
Rehearsals say a lot of things about who is in contention to win and who is not. 2015 says a lot: odds totally spoiled the top 5 after the rehearsals... 😅😅😅
I can't agree more, it's so sad. After Sanna Nielsen I think things drastically changed. It's like they don't want to put much effort anymore. Not about the artist- about the songs!
sweden always sends horrible songs. generic trashy pop. only euphoria was good and by good i mean brilliant. but i cant understand how they manage to make top 10 with such bad songs. thank god this year they got what they deserved (not really cause they deserved to not qualify but still)
The 2020 contest was not held because the city government of Rotterdam declared an emergency related to COVID-19 on March 12 and announced quietly that they would have to convert the Rotterdam Ahoy to a field hospital for COVID-19 patients that would be used for a minimum of three months. The Rotterdam city government would not be able to take down the field hospital in time for the contest n its scheduled date.
I feel like 2016 is a forgotten and weak year. No one ever talks about it out of being Australias first year. No memorable songs, nothing. I don't even like the winning song but I guess it won because there was nothing better
