Hey everyone! After being a student who has loved the television industry all four years of high school and after years of doing strictly news segments, within my final months of high school I decided to write and direct this music video. Taylor Swift has always been an inspiration to me, as long as I can remember. Since I was young I used to sneak my IPad under the covers to watch her music videos. The way they all told a story and fit exactly what the song made you feel, was always so moving to me. So in October, after talking with my friend, I decided I wanted to make this dream of directing a music video a reality. However, I continued to sit and dream about this til about March. In March, my TV class was given the assignment to film music videos. This was the perfect opportunity to produce my dream and I took it.
Betty is a story of love, heartbreak, finding yourself, and just being a teenager. Although my life has never been as messy as these character’s, I find that everyone can relate to someone. Whether it's Betty, James, or August.
I couldn’t have done this without my amazing team, who truly put so much hard work into this video. Working with you guys has been the biggest treat of any of this. Truly the most special group of people I have ever been around, and the most talented friends I could ask for. Your selflessness to help turn my dream into a reality is something I will never forget. Let's continue to make more art together.
A lot of inspiration came from how Taylor Swift produces her videos, and the artistic style of the All Too Well music video. I thought breaking it down into parts would fill the story. I also pulled inspirations from other Swiftie music videos out there.
