Other than the fact that they got together too soon for my taste, specially when Betty was still moving on from Archie, I think in season 1 they were gold. But for some reason that I still don't understand, the writers decided to ruin Jughead's character and his relationship with Betty. One of the things that I loved about Jughead in season 1 was that he had things clear for life: he knew what he wanted and what he didn't want, he said what he believed in and he was so strong. But then with season 2, season 3, season 4 and now season 5, he just kept changing his character and his opinions in life too quickly and now he ruined his life. I hate what they did to him. Betty and Jughead had the potential to be the most beautiful, epic couple in the show. They were pure and sincere with each other (until season 2 of course). That's why I think they deserved a slower development. Season 1 should've been about Betty getting over with Archie by herself. I still can't understand Betty and Archie, because he clearly said in season 1 "I'll never be good enough for you", but then in later season all of a sudden he is? Like I don't know Archie's emotional develoment at all. I was ok with Barchie and Bughead, but none of them was done properly. Barchie was very sweet in season 1, but now they turned them in the "hot couple" just as if they were Veronica and Archie, when we know they were supposed to be the opposite, and Bughead was beautiful, but they turned it in the neverending conflicts couple just to add drama and "the element of suprise". It's like Riverdale writers don't know their characters, where they are or where they're going. I'm sure they even forgot why Archie didn't want to be with Betty in the first place, because that was never brought back. I feel like the characters instead of developing since season 1, they regressed. How do I personally think things should've been done? In season 1 Betty and Archie trying to understand their feelings: Archie asking himself why he doesn't feel good enough for Betty and Betty trying to understand Archie and move on. As for Veronica and Jughead, they all should've started as friends. Season 2 should've been about Archie starting to develop feelings for Veronica and trying to understand why he thinks he's worth of her but not Betty. Veronica would help him understand that due to his admiration for Betty he put her on a pedestal, instead on trying to know the real her. So Archie would try to know the dark side of Betty and why she has the need of being so organized and perfect. While all these happens, Betty would still not be over Archie completely, but she will slowly understand that what she likes about Archie is the idea of perfect childhood love, instead Archie for who he really is. This would bring her closer to Jughead, with whom she still shares that amazing partnership we saw in season 1. In this season Betty and Archie would've become closer friends, since he finally understands Betty is not perfect and she understands that he is not a guy that she would actually work with. Also Veronica and Jughead should've become closer this season as friends, since they actually are in the same group. In the end Betty and Archie would've have a talk on how they love each other so much, but as friends and their relationship could've turned into something like brother and sister at this point. Season 3 should've been about Betty understanding what love really is: caring for someone, share a unique bond, be a match and a team, emotionally, phisically and intelectually. That would've make her realize she has feelings for Jughead. As for Archie I always thought that him and Josie were a better option than Veronica and him, since they both make each other realize what's right, because Josie would not stand Archie's indecision, just like him made her softer and with her it was the first time I saw him spoke clearly what he wanted (which was being oficially with her). On the other hand I don't think Veronica should be with anyone on the show for now; I just don't see her becoming a better version of herself with anyone romantically speaking; but I do see her being the protector of her group of friends and the people she cares about, and be the one who takes down her dad. And in season 4 we would finally see Betty and Jughead becoming a couple, after all they went through together, and later we would see Josie and Archie too. After this romantically speaking, the show should've be about the characters understanding what really means to be with someone and make it work and last. This is how I think the romantic arcs should've gone. I'm so bother by how much potential went to waste, not even because of "bad writing", but "mad writing".

For me, the most heartbreaking thing was that Betty didn't kissed any other guy. She kissed Archie. His best friend. And with that, Jughead lost two of the most important people in his life.
