I've been fortunate enough to see BTBAM live 5 times, they are one of my favorites live, very very precise and technical. Usually they will play their latest album front to back and its always a treat. I discovered them on their Silent Circus album and was able to see them live with Alaska, Colors, Paralax 1, Paralax 2 and just recently for the Automata 1 album. Living in the PNW is a bummer for metal because not every tour comes through here, hence missing the Coma Ecliptic tour. Here's to hoping you get to see your first show soon, great review, thanks! P.S. When they opened for Opeth around the release of the Color's album, one of my top 5 shows of all time. Wish they would tour with them again...
BTBAM dont get enough attention, its very disappointing since they are my favorite band for 2 years, i discovered them with the Parallax, and thats still my favorite album by them, underrated, underrated, underrated, better than DT
Yes, this whole album, which i'm sure you have heard by now, is absolutely flawless, one of my favorite albums ever, and you're right technical metal done very well. keep on keepin on
I agree with your sentiment about needing melody and hooks in addition to all the technicality. Another band that comes to mind in that concept is Fallujah - they've got a unique approach to that I think. Are you familiar with them? If not, you should check out a couple of their pieces... Two of my favorites: Amber Gaze - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-InZnXyuIsfs.html Scar Queen - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--ekrISzHG5A.html
Ah cool I found your BTBAM video. I had thought about my comparison of Vektor's "Terminal Redux" and Between the Buried and Me's "Parallax". Both the final songs on the albums have similar themes. They both have a "march" towards doom essentially. And they both incorporate riffs and instrumentation from previous songs in the album as a way of wrapping up the story. I do prefer Terminal Redux, but Parallax was also pretty awesome. This song and Astral Body are the first 2 recommendations I give to people when talking about BTBAM. And I agree that some bands don't balance technicality well with emotive melodic playing. BTBAM and Vektor do it very well. BTW for a request, I'd love to hear your take on the Elder song "Blind". They came out with an awesome album last year and that song is a highlight. Love your channel.
8:45 mark of the reaction video, which is at the 4m 44s mark of the original link (as well as in other sections), I hear "Kings X". ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mGlcAdNqmXM.html - which also would indicate some Beatles influence, as difficult as that may be to follow. Then they go off into Dream Theater land.
Pictures, Noise and Words I’d go with something from The album “Amputecture” or “Francis the Mute.” The first album was produced by Rick Rubin and watered them down to a more commercially digestible product. They really hit stride in the following albums. I would stay away from their newest album “Noqtourniquet” It was experimental but in a very very bad way.
