A month ago, I binge watched the Beverly Hills Cop Movies for the first time in anticipation for this movie. Just finished watching Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) an hour ago and I had a blast with this movie and I'm giving it an 8/10.
Honestly thats the tome they should add to the rest of the movies from nowo n. Its just the tone setter for Beverly hills cop from now on. The music and themes. Esp The song Shakedown.
I hate most legacy sequels, but this was pretty good and far better than the 3rd movie. It's a nice send off for these characters. I know he's like 85 but I wish we got a Ronny Cox cameo. I would still give it like a 7/10
Plus Nothing to Lose (even though Martin Lawrence is in Bad Boys) and Men In Black (even Though Will Smith is in Bad Boys) and Big Mamma House Keeping (even though Martin Lawrence is in Nothing To Lose and Bad Boys) and lastly The Garfield movies with Bill Murray if you dont Make a crossover movie then We must hope they all show up in Deadpool & Wolwerine…..
Huge fan of the "Beverly Hills Cop" movies & grew-up watching them. But I must say I'm pleasantly surprised when I heard about this movie, I had no idea it was being made !
I thoroughly enjoyed this film. A very solid 7.5/10. A great return to form considering it was a netflix project. I'm so glad this wasn't a dumpster fire. Many franchises have awful entries and this isn't one. 😁
Im glad to hear this is pretty decent. Wish this would've came out around Dolemite Is My Name. Eddie Murphy was great in that and that could've had him on a roll.
The daughter is easily the worst part of the movie. Not only is she estranged from her father, but she's estranged from her boyfriend as well. So there's 2 identical plot points that eat up WAY to much screen time. A tighter script could've eliminated her completely. Axel goes back to Beverly Hills because Billy disappears after uncovering evidence of corrupt cops. There's your plot. No need for the daughter or her subplot of proving some gang banger innocent. Instead have more scenes of Murphy irritating Kevin Bacon, as is the nature of his character to do that. But with the daughter, the movie is at least 20 minutes too long, but feels like more because she derails it every time she's on screen. It's an ok movie. Not nearly as good as the first 2 but not nearly as bad as 3.
Christopher MacDonald was playing golf in this movie, as Netflix is working on Happy Gilmore 2. They might connect the two franchises with just a small line in HG2
I thought it was mid. Eddie was great, and so were the callbacks, but it just wasn't very funny and lacked the energy and fun of the first two. It was better than 3, though. 🤷🏾♂️
Why does every legacy sequel need to add a moody cu@t to remind us what a screw up the iconic male character is? Hollywood once again making a male character a deadbeat dad. Wow, so stunning and brave. It's nowhere near as heavy handed as Dial of Destiny or The Last Jedi but it still has some of that bulls@it here. It's a very watchable movie when the daughter isn't in it. 6/10, I would put it above 3 but the first 2 are way better.
Don’t know what you think Cody but I’m getting a feeling now that audiences are beginning to show more hunger for some of these old school type blockbusters - you know these Jerry Bruckheimer produced films or films of that ilk that are throwbacks to simpler times of the 80s and 90s, like Top Gun Maverick and Bad Boys and now this. I think a portion of the audience seems to be getting tired of the way modern blockbusters are produced.
This is one of my most anticipated movies of this year. First two are some of my all time favorites. Excited about most of what you said, but it’s a huge bummer that Reinhold and Ashton aren’t co-leads
@CodyLeachYT as far as villains go which do u think was better after watching BHC:AF 🤔 Ellis DeWald or Kevin Bacon's character ( Im assuming he is the villain & no I havent seen Beverly Hills Cop Axel Foley)
They should've team up Axel & joseph Gordon levitt since the beginning of the movie. They got great chemistry. And Rosewood should've join the team sooner
Yea the 5th film is being written Eddie said. But i also sent and idea to Jerry Bruckhiemer for the 5th My idea had Taggart ,Rosewood and Axel working together again. To find out whos this new big bad villians son that just got out of prison. Targeting them and their familys. And kidnapped Janes mother. Which brings Axel back to LA to reunite 1 last time with Taggart and Rosewood to being this New big bad down. And get Janes mother back. What do yall think of that premise? The villian is supposed to be the dark tone of the movie like Max was in bev cop 2. Which makes Eddie the lighter tone to the movie just like bev cop 2.
It wasn’t bad but in the world of the movie Axel has been a cop for 46 or 47 years and Taggart has been a cop for over 50 yrs. Realistically Officers serve 30-40 yrs and 35-40 is pushing it. Most Officers retire after 25-30 yrs of service.
Eddie Murphy hasn’t made anything I’ve watched in the last twenty plus years. Murphy hasn’t been funny since he started having kids. There’s nothing funny about a daddy. Only simps like this would waste their time watching Eddie Murphy do anything. I thought Beverley Hills Cop itself sucked and skipped all the sequels. Trading Places was the peak of Eddie Murphy and his overrated career.
It is better than Beverly Hills Cop 3 but if Edgar Wright or the 21 Jump Street directors were directing this movie, it would have been better. Hot Fuzz and the Jump Street movies were great so I feel we needed that kind of action in this movie. Unless we get a better director, I am fine with this movie being the last of the franchise.
I think me and you are the only ones that don't hate part 3 lol. I can still enjoy 3 for the Eddie factor. The story for this was cliche and Kevin Bacon was the obvious villian but it was fun. This is the best of the sequels for me but I might need to re watch part 2 again to see for sure. This flick was great fun and all the old actors had there charm again. Only other problem I had was I missed Billy's character he was underused and that was a mistake. I assume the reason why was because they probably felt they needed some young blood to see the movie more. But if they do a 5th I suspect the next one will be the old gang at center stage again like before. This movie almost felt like a testing ground to get the series going again for more sequels to me.
I just watched it today. It felt so much like the 80’s and mid 90’s classics. Same feel, I didn’t feel like it was a different movie just called Beverly Hills cop. Luv how they added the old nostalgia music to it, and I stay entertained throughout the 2 hours.
I agree with almost all of this review. I also love Beverly Hills Cop 3 and grew up with it. I thought the comedy was there in this movie. The action was fun. The soundtrack was biblical. I couldn’t have cared less about the relationship with Axel Foley and his daughter. It totally bogged down parts of the movie. I don’t even think she was needed other than to be the excuse for him to go back to Beverly Hills. All of those extra scenes should’ve just been with Eddie and JGL.
Cant believe you didnt touch in the absolutely disgraceful decision to not screen this in cinemas. With the nostalgia hype of Bad Biys 4, Axel F would of played off that nicely and grossed over 450-500 million at the box offic easily. Thats what hapoens when you put a woman in charge of film distribution on a male driven tentpole picture!! What a fool.
I watched it last night and agree with most of your thoughts. It was a bit too nostalgia heavy for me. Had this come out around the time of The Force Awakens, it probably would have landed better for me but in 2024, I'm kind of over shameless nostalgia bait. I love the soundtrack for those first two movies, but that first 15 minutes was just shamelessly calling back to the opening of the first two movies and it felt kind of cheap to me. I liked the storyline between Axel and his daughter and most of his scenes with Joseph Gordon Levitt were good. "94...not your finest moment" 😂. I also really liked Kevin Bacon as the villian. I've never hated the third movie but it's clearly the weakest in the franchise. I liked this one a little more than that but it's still nowhere near as good as the first two. Still, I was expecting this to be a lot worse so I can't really call it a disappointment. I enjoyed it enough and will probably watch it again.
I so agree with you on axels daughter,,there was no chemistry between them, and her acting was so wooden that it could be called bad acting?,,,she was humourless, miserable and boring,,,she didn't want to be like her dad,but I'm sure they could of eventually made her completely vibrant
Ok loved the movie but QUESTION? Do you think the the helicopter scene with the Rotor being shot out and then crashing was dig at John Landis? First thing i though of when it i seen it.
There was some good stuff here. But his daughter was super annoying. What is it with these revivals where they constantly have to have a woman berate the main character? And Eddy my boy. You gotta hit the gym. That jacket ain't hiding your donut belly.
Not familiar with your channel and I was expecting a typical “ homer” review. Your review is well thought out and mostly on point in my opinion. I think you were a little soft on some writing apathy areas … frankly I found the writing to be pathetic and usual Hollywood lazy. I agree it is smart to keep the same formula template that we all expected but I believe they got away from a good serious cop movie with comedic sprinkles in the oruginalnto a comedy with cop movie sprinkles.
I wasn't coming in with expectations because I'm not that nostalgic for this franchise. Don't get me wrong I like the first two well enough but I saw this franchise later in life and didn't grow up with it, so I don't have the attachment to it the way I do with something like The Karate Kid.
I can agree with you on the daughter being exhausting but a least it wasn't heavy handed, and they didn't pull a Disney thing of making the iconic male character look like a loser that gets talked down to by a female character. Like you pointed out, Indy in Dial of Destiny looked like a loser, and he had his nuts cut off by a girl boss. A very watchable movie and better than 3 but less time with the daughter and more time with Rosewood and Taggart would've been nice.
I thought it was ok. Some moments it felt exactly like the old times which was great, the other times were just meh for me. I can’t help but think Phil lord and Chris miller would have been perfect to give this the 21 jumpstreet treatment with the possibility of something truly special
If they had taken out a few of the car conversations with the daughter and matched the music with what's happening on screen it would have been really good I think. It still beats 2 and three for me definitely.
I was skeptical for only the director Mark molloy his directorial debut wasn't a good sign compared to the talents of Martin brest and Tony Scott as much as I like John Landis as director not so much in Beverly hills cop 3 it's a solid movie 3 out of 5 for me
I watched i give it a 7/10. This one was to wrote the wrong from tne throd film 1994. 1 and 2 are and will go down as iconic. 1,2 and 4 are my obvious one's
I was on the fence about this one, but I found that I agree with 98% of your take on stuff so I’ll give this movie a shot. Also, that’s an awesome shirt you have there. Very underrated album in my opinion. 🤘🏻
Nostalgia is a terrible thing to use to support a movie. Easter Eggs are mindless, meaningless junk that distracts and devalues the content being created. It’s an attempt at good will at the expense of the story.
Just finished watching this. It was actually quite good! It definitely was a hell of a lot better than Cop 3. There were a lot of call backs to the other films and it was nice to be able to recognize them. Not bad at all!
This guy runs a stupid add at the beginning of the review. I have absolutely no interest in his useless sponsors. You Tube has enough advertising and when a content creator dumps a stupid add in their videos it pisses me off. Put that junk at the end so I can skip something I couldn’t care less about.
I am going to be in the minority here but this was barely a step over part 3. Nostalgic sure. But the same old stuff that just is not as good as it was 40 years ago. Unnecessary. Shocked it was not released in theaters as this would have made a ton of bank so I have to give them credit there.
Why wasn't this in theaters? I would have been there in a heartbeat. This was a great movie as a fan of the series and a return to form for Eddie Murphy whose last few movies have been pretty mediocre.
I wonder if he'll be sticking a banana in the tailpipe again. 😉😂🤣 But seriously, does sound interesting, and I'm sure I'll check it out. However, now I know why the bundle of the first 3 movies is currently on sale, which I plan on taking advantage of when I get paid tomorrow. Did enjoy your review. Thank you, Cody.
i got a early screener for maxxxine cody !!! excited to see your thoughts on this one i’m about to watch it hopefully it’s as good as pearl atleast because idk if it can live up to X been hearing mixed things abt it if it’s even a sliver of good as x or pearl this is going down as one of the best horror trilogy’s in film imo edit without giving spoilers - some will not like this movie as much as X however people who want to see a 80s style kia goth horror film that ties into X without feeling like X will love this movie i can see people getting bored with this one if not invested but i can also see this as a cult classic like x and pearl , final thoughts i loved it as much as X mia goth still shines and is amazing as ever but i can see some people not loving this one and being disappointed but i can say imo this is the best trilogy in horror for me hands down i loved it ❤🖤 minor disappointment with it is who ends up being the night stalker i won’t do spoilers but i thought a particular character from another show should have been the night stalker since he looks just like him like it’s insane still great movie hope you enjoy it cody !🤘
