THANK YOU. These companies are driving me crazy. I've already talked to someone that got charged $21k due to a 15% contingency fee. I gave them a copy of Circular 230 and the form for abusive tax preparation.
Some questions for you: I had one of these companies do my ERC filing. They charged me 25%. The checks were supposed to be mailed to a 3rd party lock box, but somehow the company failed to fill out the paper work correctly, and the IRS sent the refund checks directly to me. After I hired the company and they amended my 941's, I found out that what they were charging me was illegal. Then, to my surprise, I received all of the refund checks in the mail, sent directly to me. As a result, they were not able to deduct their contingency fee. I want to pay them what's fair, but I refuse to pay 25% (even though I signed a contract stating I would do so), because I know what they did was illegal. Have you heard about this happening to anyone else? What fee do you believe is fair for something like this?
