First thing I notice is 2 rows of the speed lace rivets vs 3 rows on the old. For me two rows just don't usually allow me to get my foot in and out without untying the laces totally. Defeats the whole purpose of a speed lace for me usually.

I have worn them for years just got a new pair and noticed that they were made differently and the size wasn’t the same as I’ve worn for years. I ended up trying them on did not like the fit and gave them away. Looks like they are not making the boots I’ve worn for years so I guess I’ll be looking for another boot that yes is made in America. That was the best part about them . Thanks for your video

They're a completely different price point the the made in the USA pair is a basically a $200 boot while the Vietnam pair is just above $100, they're half the cost of course they're not going to be as good. The middle boot competes with brands like thorogood while the cheap one competes with Carhartt

Thorogoods have one massive problem, and that is the inconsistent location of the mock toe stitch, which is so often, not even in the same location on the left to right boots! If I do purchase another pair, it will most definitely be from a local mom and pop shoe store, where I can properly inspect them before working over my money for them. I've unfortunately already gone to multiple shoe stores in the hopes of purchasing a new pair, yet every time I've been disappointed to find that the stitch was not in the correct location.

I always assume that unless a boot specifically states made in America that it's made elsewhere. I've been looking at the Carolina website lately and a lot of the boots look cheap and oddly designed. But you can't really tell unless you do a live and on your foot fitting. I had a pair of their jump boots about thirty years ago and they were pretty solid. I was a bike messenger back then and I wore them for a couple winters running. But the salt and road grime just destroyed the leather. I cleaned them regularly, even used the vinegar trick to dissolve the salt. But salty Chicago streets sent them to an early grave. They were good boots. The leather was good and thick, the zippers were real tough and the soles were great with a nice chewy tread. I think the made in USA Carolina's are still solid.

@Jon651

Carolinas apparently are a near-clone of Thorogoods. If you hunt around on RU-vid you can find the video of both pair being cut apart and the differences are extremely minor to the point that the reviewer had to double check they weren't made in the same factory (they are not). As such, the storm welt they both use is synthetic and not leather, and the top row of stitching is actually a faux stitch that doesn't hold anything so losing that second row is no big deal. It was obviously changed to save some money, just like using the cheaper insoles.

Would these wedge boots be okay in winter weather. I Live in Rhode Island so winters are pretty weak. I do HVAC

They handle temporary water conditions well, but once wet take a very long time to dry and become heavy. The more you wax/oil then, the better they do, but they are still leather boots.

The same thing happened with RedWing and now RedWing boots suck ass. The early ones in the 90's and before were really comfortable with really great soles that easily lasted 7 years and were resoled perfectly and went another 8. My new Carolinas have the flags and no plastic, but I really hope they don't go the way of Redwing in the future. Boots made in China, Vietnam, or any other shithole will never be as good as US made boots. The stitching and fake rubber is what went to hell with RedWing.
@PreparedPatriotNC
@PreparedPatriotNC 2 года назад
Agreed. Have you tried the heritage line in redwings? Do they still stack up to old quality?

@@PreparedPatriotNC Not yet but I did see a few of their offerings. I'm a plumber and I work on steam boilers and controls so I wanted certain features like electrical insulation etc... RedWing didn't have any domestic boots that matched what I was looking for.

Just last year I would have argued with you... unfortunately Carolina boots has let me down. Great price, quality, and USA made apparently don’t go together anymore.Thorogood boots may be the next best option made in America, but the price is significantly higher. Thanks for watching!

My CA8821 logger's outer sole delaminated in less than a year .. made in China .. a waste of 170 bucks. on the bright side .. the nice uppers will never wear out, sitting in my basement. 🙃👎

I'm sick of seeing these white crappy soles that wear so fast it's pathetic. Vibram soles were awesome and I have a pair that's about 5 years old and the sole is still in good enough condition with tread left. Try that with those crap white soles they try to claim are more comfortable but definitely aren't in my opinion. The only thing good about the white soles to me is that they make it an easy choice not to buy. I don't buy the more comfort crap either since I have both. I find the 5 yo vibram every bit as comfortable as the 1 yo white sole shoes which are wearing fast barely wearing them. People, don't be careful about falling for the more comfort so they'll wear super fast crap. Vibram soles are very comfortable and last sooooooo much longer.

Everyone is trying to get rich off of gimmicks and garbage. There's only so much return year after year you can give to stock holders. That to me is indicative of an economic collapse. before buy NOS and very lightly worn boots. I'm a boot collector. If you go on ebay you can find $400 boots for under $100. You just have to know what to look for. Some of the most quality boots don't even have labels. That's how it was in the 1940s and 50s these are USA cobbler handmade made boots that can be resoled 80 years later. No "man made" or artificial materials besides the rubber sole. There rare as hens teeth but most people don't know what they have.

Are Carolinastrue to size? I tried Thorogoods toe box was just a bit too snug/narrow.
@PreparedPatriotNC
@PreparedPatriotNC 2 года назад
They make a wide size, which is why I liked them. Very generous toe box.

I have the D width Thorogood’s, and yes the toe box was a tad narrow, but they will stretch some, so it’s not really and issue now.

If they are actually discontinuing them then I suggest thorogood boots. Made in USA. Extremely similar construction. Also you can have your old Carolinas resoled by a good cobbler. Also whites boots has their Perry boot that is regularly put on sale for 20% off.

Lol. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but a lot of thorogoods are coming from china
@brandonwilcox9316
@brandonwilcox9316 Год назад
@@budjiman1 I'm referring to their moc toe boots which are made in the US. Also since my original comment was posted new options have come to the market that are a much better buy including the Franks Patriot at $350 and handmade in Spokane Washington or if made in USA isn't a priority the Drew's Boots Logger for $350 which is made in Leon Mexico but is incredibly well made and comfortable. While they are more expensive than the Thorogoods or the Carolinas in the video the Frank's and the Drew's are worth the added expense.
@brandonwilcox9316
@brandonwilcox9316 Год назад
@@budjiman1 Also the Perry boot from whites that I recommended is in fact only bottomed in the US with the uppers being made in the Dominican Republic which is quite disappointing because they are marketed as made in the US.
