Regarding playing like it's anime, a kid (like maybe 12) showed up to locals one day with your typical "deck in a Ziploc baggie," so all of us experienced meta players all agreed to use our casual/fun decks against him (no hand traps or negates and shit), and he just started going off like Yami Yugi with his 2011 starter deck, and we all got caught up in it. One game (I was playing Ghostricks), I got a full field out, activated Ghostrick Ghoul's effect, declaring "I activate Ghostrick Ghoul's effect! It allows one of my Ghostrick monsters to gain attack power equal to the combined original attack of all the Ghostrick monsters I control! Then, I activate Ghostrick Dullahan's effect to reduce the attack power of one of YOUR monsters by half!" Then the little shit hit me with a Magic Cylinder for 6k because I didn't have Mansion out.

So relatable. I hate when my opponents ask me if I'm MBT.

Had a female friend of mine who was thinking about getting into the game come with me to locals. After winning my 2nd game of the day my opponent accused me of "bringing a girl to detract my opponents from the game" I'm not sure if that counts but WFT thinks like this.

I keep a buff ojama playmat, full bulge, on-hand in case they slap down some lewd accessories. It makes them uncomfortable, yet they never seem to be able to put 2 and 2 together

I once had a match where I had won the die roll, the guy looks at his hand, says “Yea I didn’t draw any interaction, combo off” and then left the table. He came back like 5 minutes later. I wasn’t playing a combo deck. I was playing Monarchs.

I had the "Oh nice, easy start" pulled on me once at my locals. That was the most satisfying 2-0 of my life.

To explain the magic short cuts, we short cut when we fetch a land by saying, “I’ll get something that taps for red to play this Goblin.” It saves some time because otherwise the game would drag on. The other shortcut is when at the combo, we only show the infinite combo one go around. That way we don’t have to do it for each instance

Biggest red flag for me is whenever an adult starts getting upset at a child. One time someone at my locals was demanding an anwser after the game HE WON if the single structure deck cheated because he hadn't develop the muscle strength to hold cards and had accidenrlt place his monsters in the S/T

I was told at an event like 12 years ago now that I couldn't use my custom sleeves...which were literally just a close-up picture of me smirking and giving finger guns. They said that the sleeves were "too distracting".

gonna use this chance to talk about one of my happiest memories, which is when i played a few matches with a kid that came to the store and he said he normally hates losing games but playing with me was fun regardless this sort of interaction is what kept me a rogue decker now that i watched the video i want to add the worst memory which was dueling a guy that did every summon chant and attack name in broken japanese and i kept the hardest poker face the whole game to see which of us broke first and at some point he went "do you watch the anime?" to confirm i was getting the references

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a casual player at heart and find(at least at my locals)the atmosphere to be generally cold and unwelcoming, but one thing that bugged me to no end when I'd go to locals was the complete lack of respect the competitive players had for the game itself. They'd audibly groan at the prospect of playing more than 3 rounds, and one time two of them started heckling our store employees because it was taking them awhile to tally up points(mind you these employees were not judges or even players). Ironically enough, one of those two guys was a high tier official judge who is now banned from our store because he was caught cheating twice in the same night. His ban was met with celebration from most of the players; a reaction he himself said would happen when he was trying to weasel his way out of it. Yugioh is a game and is meant for fun. If you aren't enjoying the game, then don't play it. If you want to make money, then invest in the stock market instead of ruining the atmosphere of the community in the hopes of pulling expensive cards from OTS packs

The 'lose die roll and immediately lose interest' is such a hard thing not to do. I really try to keep engaged but once my 1 or 2 hand trap is done and they continue i immediately checks out

I can emphasize with the pend player, I brought Sunvine Predaplant to a local, and the moment I used Ambulo to search Bufo, my opponent went into a near LowTierGod style rant at me about how pend ruined the game...he was playing Floo. And I didn't even use Bufo to pend xD

Not from games or anything. But one time i went to a shop to buy a mega tin. And before even opening, another guy asked if i was willing to trade it. And then i replied with "i haven't even opened yet, relax" and then the very second after i opened my last pack, he just sat right next to me, slammed his binder down and moved in to grab my cards to look which one he wanted to trade. We ended up not trading because he was only down to trade my foils for his aromages, and then he walked "ok your loss"

The people at locals that bug me are the people that sit down and don’t/refuse to move. When a locals I went to started enforcing tables and seating, one of those guys just kinda looked upset for a while.

In Digimon to annoy my brother during casuals whenever I play an armor rush deck I will always say the full title of every armor form. IE “I digivolve Veemon to Flamedramon, the fire of courage.”

As an extension to the "your opp gets frustrated" thing, there was this one dude I played against on several occasions who would win most of his matches, and usually started out each match being friendly, but as soon as ONE THING went wrong for him, he'd be pissy the entire rest of the match even if that one wrong thing was insignificant and he won anyway

For playmats, as long as it's not super lewd/outright nude, it doesn't matter. There's tons of custom art that people want as playmats (even if it's stolen art), but I can't see the bother as long as it's not super sexual.

I play Traptrix since they were introduced in the TCG, the amount of stupid shit people have said to me is enough to make a book out of it. Some people need to learn the difference between red flags and projecting.

One of my most unpleasant matches I've ever had, through no real fault of anyone's own, was at a local tournament against a dude who had walked in with a cold compress on his face from having gone to the dentist right before, and he couldn't talk because of that. Meanwhile, I was a complete beginner and I barely had any idea what _my_ cards did, let alone his. We struggled for minutes on end to do the most basic stuff between him pointing at cards, me reading every single one of his cards to figure out which paragraph was relevant to the situation at hand, and him painfully squeezing out single words like "pop" or "negate" to clue me in. And I _still_ got my ass beat.

My favourite summon chant is "ladies and gents, the Toon Summoned Skull!" But yes, I agree that one per duel is the limit. I was so annoying when I used to do voice impressions more often 😂

After they banished half my Extra Deck and was sitting on the 2 Rituals... I was able to Bounce and Lady them (I THINK that is how i got rid of them) IMMEDIANTLY after they are like "Konami getting rid of Red Reboot was the worst thing ever, Labrynth and other Trapdecks are cancer" And then just DC'd and I'm over here looking like "MY BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER! YOU JUST SPAT OUT A 4K BEAT STICK THAT DEMOLISHED MY EXTRA DECK! IF I WAS ON MOST OTHER DECKS YOU WOULD HAVE JUST CRIPPLED ME! I'M SORRY WHAT?!"

So I feel like this is the right place to say it since it didn't get talked about directly in this video, but a thing I personally experience a lot is just people who are complete assholes, or just give off a vibe and act like theyre better than you. For a long while I've been someone who doesn't play meta, I've been playing things like plunder, krawlers, and other archetypes I enjoy an think are thematic and fun, but a lot of times there are certain people who like as soon as they sit down to play me they just kinda look at me like "oh fuck i have to play this guy again" and are completely uninterested in the match despite the fact that a lot of the times the matches are very close and interesting, and then afterwards I dont even get a gg or a fist bump or anything. Idk if my locals are just full of a bunch of assholes but the people who do this with me aren't generally even that good, versus most of the best players there with regional tops and YCS tops being some of the nicest people to me and having an absolute blast playing even if i get demolished.

Back in like 2015 I was attending a Magic Grand Prix. On my way to get some food, I somehow managed to get trapped into a conversation with a guy who was ranting about the event staff. Basically: 1) Dude shows up using card sleeves showing a naked anime girl, with her privates and nipples covered by tentacles. 2) After round 1, someone had complained to the judges that that had made them uncomfortable. 3) The judges found the guy, and basically told him to get different sleeves. 4) He demands they show him in the rules where he can't have sleeves like that. 5) They show him. 6) He starts throwing a tantrum, and gets disqualified from the event. 7) Convention hall security has to escort him out. 8) He spends the rest of the morning out in front of the convention hall, telling everyone about the great injustice they had suffered.

I played against drytron at locals he was playing with the lock out. I was playing live twin. He asked as soon as I sat down for the judge to check my sleeves it was round one and the were brand new sleeves. My friend was the local judge and was like wtf

With the field centre thing, if my opponent puts one down first, I just accept it and don’t use mine. I thought that was how it was done since that’s how it’s done at my locals.

People getting overly frustrated is a very annoying problem. I play Machina and three times someone flipped their shit cause I used Ruinforce for game. The first guy stood up and tried to fist fight me, the second guy claimed I didn’t explain Ruinforce to him and tried to give me a game loss by running to the judge. Third guy spent the rest of locals telling everyone I only won cause Triple Tac and wouldn’t trade with me for the rest of the day.

I love cyberse decks and Vrains but when my opponent sits down with their cyberse deck and starts saying Link Shoukan after every play it gets cringe quick

Red Flags, Red Flags.. welp, there was this moment where I played Ghostricks in a N/R Tournament, we had this guy that was a literal sore loser that would brag about his wins and flexes on you but literally call you a bunch of slurs in the Tournament Chat if you ever do something they don't like. He got suspended from the community - eventually banned - when they faced another Toxic player with a Control deck and they cursed every single entity that was playing a Control Deck of some sort. I looked back at my Ghostrick deck, went 1 - 4 or 2 - 3.. and decided to dismantle my whole deck and any other Control Deck I had at that current timeline, because I didn't wanted to get that type of backfire ever again. Months after we had the Ghostrick Solo Mode in Master Duel, I played it.. and celebrated my 10th year of playing Ghostricks right there.

I'm not a YGO player, but I've played several other card games. It's hard for me to put my red flag into words without providing this anecdote. When I played Vanguard, set releases were staggered worldwide, and most of the regulars at my local shop would spend their free time between matches discussing overseas tournaments and which archetypes were top-tier in each upcoming set. I didn't have a lot of winning days, but I had fun. Then, one of my favorite archetypes was getting a really unique new win-con, and I knew I wanted to build that deck more than anything. Without getting too into the mechanics of the game, it was a high-risk, high-reward deck that sacrificed defensive options to get one explosive turn in the late game, and it was off-meta. It probably took me two or three months of trading with other players at the shop, and buying singles online to get all the cards I wanted for the deck. It was by far the most time and care I'd ever put into deckbuilding, and by the time I was ready to bring it to the shop to play, I had a rare winning day, to which my friends said "you got so lucky," "That's such a luck based deck," and "f*cking luck deck!" That burned. I didn't play card games for a long time after that.

Throwback to that one match in my locals that i was literally with my phone watching Formula 1 while my opponent was doing Mathmech/Cyberse/idk-what-else plays, and I played my handtraps early and in the worst way possible so that I could focus on the screen (?), worst part is that we ended in a draw because their combos took too long

I keep thinking about the time a guy at locals saw me pend summon 4 monsters and started complaining about how broken pendulums are, why they should all be on the banlist, and how yugioh just isnt fair anymore when someone can pendulum summon 4 monsters at once. I was playing Gadgets. In 2022.

The guy who thinks locals is more strict than regionals or something. Anything you do hes trying to find a way to DQ you. For example, if he catches you getting a glimpse of your cards before time is called to start, he will call judge and try a DQ, im not kidding, this guy plays every single meta deck and rage quits if he gets owned. No one likes to play against him because it feels like playing on eggshells. And the saddest part? Hes actually super nice friendly and outgoing, until he duels, its like a switch is flipped Or the guy who doesn't understand rulings and tries to tell you what your cards do despite playing them for years and he doesn't know the archtype (he had two white stones of ancients from a previous turn sent to gy, send the third on a new turn, and activated all 3 to special from deck because "this card" applies to all stones, and the fucking judge allowed it. Also said you can only summon lord if hes revealed, which is also false since the reveal is needed to set from deck, or said how citadel cant resolve a board wipe if it cant destroy the targeted machine, which ive played EM religiously)

I am a Dark World player. I get it, long turns that may not go anywhere, questionable wordings, lots of durp. For me, its the players that rush me when I am already playing so fast that I am skipping the middle man (putting Lucent on field instead of grave, then field) or they immediately start card sharking and calli the judge with every new card I play. But as annoying as those 2 things are, the worst are players that do that, scoop in the middle of my turn, then side deck for the next 10 minutes. At that point I am thinking "ok, they didn't come prepared for decks like mine and are all about winning. I HAVE to win game 2 because 1 way or another, game 3 WILL be a shit show that will go to time with them stalling it out for a draw. The only out is to do enough damage that they can't burn me enough to at least break even and the scoop after basically insulting your choice in skin color

The only time I went to locals since my Work Schedule doesn't line up nicely with it, I brought Ojamas and a guy on Predaplant said that it was just Tri-brigade Literally Keras was the only Main Deck Tri, since he was a LV2 Beast Extender with plus side of doing the Tri thing, and I played 1 of Shuraig, Rugal, and Ferrijit Also Zone Locking with Ojama Knight and the A/D Swap with Ojama Country, helped me win a game against Floowandereeze

There's a guy in my locals who literally wants to play against the new/unexperienced players o those who only have a "Fun" deck because he sees them as a "free win". He used to do that with me back in 2018 when I was a returning player, until I started to win against him consistently, he almost never wanted to play against me after. The guy also just built a Dark Magician deck (with souls, illusion, soul servant) just to make the other dark magician player at my local jealous since he's missing copies of those cards. The funny thing is that other DM player doesn't give a sh*t about that.

One thing i wonder about is if im a red flag for anyone at locals. Part of it is just the fact that im naturally self conscious but also like, i work nights and so i have a naturally fucked up sleep schedule, so either im forcing myself to get up super early to be there or my sleep schedule got messed up and i've been up since like 4 in the morning and im forcing myself awake to be there. Either way I tend to look completely exhausted and I know for a fact im not playing to the best of my ability because i just dont have the mental capacity to interrupt your combos even though I probably could have stopped it. Or, like often times I probably could have had a better response had i have just read your card but I just didnt have the energy for that lol.

So i play mtg irl and had one dude ask for me to put my Alucard from hellsing mat away because it offended his religious beliefs but at an event with children pulled out a completely naked anime girl mat. 😂😂

The red flag is ppl who suddenly think they have better moral standing (especially about playmat) when it's not even in a sanctioned tournament, or even any tournament at all. God am I glad my community has none of these assholes

My redflag that I gave out was back when Spiritual Beasts were a thing (along with Nekroz) and I would immediately ask my opponent "so are you aware of the UltiCannahawk loop? So if you are I'm going to be real here, it's a pain to play out so we are speed running through it. If you have any interruptions the moment I go into it or plan on interrupting somewhere during the loop, say it first so we can save ourselves a 5 minute turn" Along those lines lol. This was usually a locals or convention tournament thing. Obviously I know you can just speed run through combos in actual Konami tournaments

I did not know about the Sea Dragon combo holy hell, genuinely might pick Marincess back up. Always thought the deck was cute but it was never particularly great.

I always find it weird when people start swearing incessantly. There’s this guy at my locals that uses “fuck” like a 13 year old who just learned the word and still thinks it’s cool. I cuss like a sailor in my everyday life, but when we’re all just trying to some fun rounds I’d rather not have some dude spewing about how he “completely fucked my board” and whatnot.

There's a guy who came to my locals exactly once whose deck box is literally shaped like a foot. Dude was basically like a cryptid. He wasn't even on any kind of waifu archetype or anything he was playing kashtira. Just rolled up, rinsed everybody, took his OTS packs, and fucking left. Never to be seen again.

I honestly don't mind people that play the game like they're in the anime or something so long as they are clearly doing it for fun and not because they really think they're an ancient pharaoh or some shit. Like, I've had duels where I had Golem Sentry face down and A Feint Plan on the field. They set up and enter their Battle Phase and I activate A Feint Plan and they just go "Guh! What a cunning strategy! I cannot do anything now! I end my turn!" Like, I'll absolutely match that energy because it's fun.

biggest red flag for me: when someone goes: 'that doesnt sound right' and call a judge on a card effect that is blatant and obvious beyond the sky being blue, just because they are losing. i had someone who went to my locals who would repeatedly do this, and had actually gaslit some people into doubting themselves on a regular basis because cards and effects they have come to know off by heart were continuously challenged and judge called in 0.001 seconds just because the card is strong, a key example of this is: one time when using "lubellion the searing dragon" to shuffle back "the light - hex sealed", from the graveyard to make "red-eyes dark dragoon", and having 8 minutes of the game wasted by him trying to convince the judge he was right and that it's an illegal move, directly after we had just played 6 months of tearlament format. he knew that king of the swamp with a tear worked because he played tear before the deck got hit, but he conveniently wouldn't 'understand' the ruling when it wasn't in his favour because he can't out dragoon. the judge only game us a 3 minute extension after the 8 minutes lost. TL,DR: people who will do anything they can, in any way regardless of the risk/frustration/arguments it causes, to cheese a win using a judge, just because they dont like losing. c'mon dawg. its a game, if you can't out the cards thats noone else's fault but yours and accept the loss.

When you play your first card and your opponent either A) begins speechifying about how terrible your deck is (typically throwing in a few slurs that tend to be directed at people who are neurodivergent/on the autism spectrum) and how both it and you need to be banned, or 2] gets huffy and either fumes about how they're sick of seeing the deck or (and this happened to me at a Magic tournament once) straight-up quits the entire event because you dared to play a deck you enjoy without asking them specifically if they were okay with it.

When people get mad and make me uncomfortable I say “you win” and leave. I know it’s a kids game….. but I’m a man and Im not playing with children.

Genuienely, this video is the locals experience for me. 100% of the time I have had an awful experience when I go alone. I just stick to collecting the cards, playing with friends casually, and Master Duel for playing randos.

Dragonball TCG is pretty chill, I've never run into any red flags like this. Hell I have never seen any degenerate playmats/sleeves outside of vendors at conventions.
