Her reference to Jackson 5 nostrils is saying that she loves her husband's African features like his wide nose, And her daughter's natural hair "afro" in the line before that.
The video was directed by Melina Matsoukas one of Bey's long-time friends and collaborator. Also, the empty pool scene is believed to be a reference to the actress Dorothy Dandridge who dipped her toe into a pool at a hotel which barred the access of Black people, so they drained the pool.
I recently saw that biopic with Halle Berry and I hated that she wasnt allowed to swim but was happy for getting back at them with that toe making them empty the pool so that no or could swim. It also reminds me of the movie Green Book where he was such a famous pianist but had to eat in the closet because he was black. 😡
This song came out the day of the super bowl four years ago! We loved it cause it was unapologetically black ✊🏾like you said (points for you lol 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾) with references to the life in New Orleans with the church, bands, the food, neighborhoods, culture, etc., as well as Hurricane Katrina. Beyonce actually has a house in New Orleans. This was in the Lemonade album era where she made her most clear statements about what it means to not only be black, but be a black woman in America. She also performed this at the Super Bowl (and announced her tour that day), which got some fools pissed off 🙄 cause they could not handle the social commetary and political statements both in the performance and the video (like the stop shootingn us at the end). I saw her live at the formation world tour which was absolutely amazing... wonder if you’ll delve into her live performances maybe...🙂 thanks for reacting! They’re always thoughtful, well put together, and interesting! I appreciate your analysis 😁 ***Yes that’s blue, her daughter in the video **** also the audio at the end, i believe, is from a documentary about hurricane katrina an dhow it impacted the residents
I love how you really pay attention to the details in the video! Beyoncé always has an underlining message in her music especially in her albums Beyoncé, lemonade, and her and Jay z joint album - everything is love. Even her most recent album “ Lion King The Gift “- were she used authentic African sounds and African artist.
i find it odd that you've never heard this song nor seen this video. this was by far the most popular music video of 2016... you aren't that young. i'm certain encountered this song 4 years ago when it was released
Lemonade is the most acclaimed and impactful album of the last century. Lemonade is a master piece and was so good that it's still being taught at universities. Lectures and seminars. THANK YOU FOR THIS JACK. MORE BEYONCÉ 😍😍😍
Shayan Kaba that’s a reach lol the most acclaimed and impactful of the last century lol . It’s a good album but it’s not the most impactful and acclaimed there’s plenty of albums more acclaimed, more impactful than this. This was a master piece body of work .
@@markmenez4097 it's the most awarded album in history. It's also the most acclaimed female album in history with over 98 on metacritic. The albums was rated the number 1 album on 110 major critics sites such as billboard, rolling stone, meta critic, etc. It also contains the most awarded solo song in history (formation), then generated the highest grossing tour by a black artist in history (260m tour in only 48 shows). Lemonade has been taught in major universaties and is still being taught 4 years later. So, yes it is the most acclaimed and impactful album of this century. If not which album of this century is more impactful
@@shayanneKMark Santana supernatural is the most awarded album . It don't even come in the top 10 best albums of all time . So again it's a stretch saying it's the best most acclaimed album of the last 50 years not true . You had other albums score 98 and higher .that name doesn't up there with mj thriller, or rolling stones etc .
@@markmenez4097 no baby. Lemonade is the most awarded album in history and won over 118 awards. So please do ur research luv. Second sales doesn t equate to impact. She has the only album that has over 98 acclaim. Other albums don't surpass 80. So please let's not. And thriller wasn't of this century. Educate urself before u embarrass urself baby 😘😘
Shayan Kaba you are dumb as hell I can’t take you serious century is 100 years 🤦♀️🤷🏽♀️😂. Do your research again lemons is not in the top 10 of best albums of all time . It does not sit with any of those albums awards , sells etc . Good luck to Beyoncé having a album that has sold over 130 million that is one album by Mj . Again you’re entitled to your opinion not your own facts .
What I love about your reaction is that I can feel that you dont know that much of beyonce's songs and you are giving the respect that It deserves You have a subscriber .
I love that you’re doing Mariah & Beyoncé reaction videos on alternate days!!! I’m a huge fan of both so that officially makes your channel my absolute favorite!!!
This is my favourite video of hers! She addresses what happened with Hurricane Katrina (US government's slow response to it & how the media's racist portrayal of black people), the shooting of unarmed black men by U.S police, the flint water situation (pool being empty) while silmutaneously singing about being unapologetically African-American. I'm not from the U.S nor am I black but when this song dropped, black twitter was goin crazy with pride & I loved that Also wanted to add that another thing Iove about Beyoncè is that though she's so beautiful/sexy etc, her artistry & talent is front and centre.
The guy in the beginning of the video is Messy Mya who was a RU-vid comedian from New Orleans. Sadly he was shot and killed in 2011. But he can be heard saying " What happened after New Wildins" which was taken from a video of him in anger speaking on a incident he was involved in that happened at a New Orleans event. And then he can be heard saying "oh yeah baby, I like that" which was from another video he did
Love the analysis. I'm currently in a rabbit hole with your Beyoncé reaction videos. Loved everything so far. And can I just say, you are very beautiful. Have a good day! 🙂
When she says she got hot sauce in my bag swag... she gotta baseball bat names Hot Sauce... you’ll see it in her Hold Up video where she smashing car windows and all with her bat... says hot sauce on it.
I only just discovered your channel a few weeks ago Jack but your reactions are awesome. So raw and honest and with useful takes on the music. And also funny in this one lol. Easily among the best music reaction channels
I found your channel a few days ago, and I really enjoy watching your reaction videos. Keep up the good work! 💪🏼 btw. Watching your videos all the way from Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷 🙌
I couldn't understand how people considered Florida a part of the south until I heard your accent 👀👀 which sounds so Southern. I was shocked to hear you say you're Floridian.
The video is one of the greatest video ever created. People just hate beyonce if not this would have been a global sensation, if it was MJ that did this we would still be talking about it till today.
The empty pool is a reference to a black girl putting her feet in an all white pool. They later drained the pool because they didnt want to catch her "blackness".
Beyonce is by far one of the best performers in history. She's regarded as the next Michael Jackson and is already compared to him regularly. She has the best performance in history aka Homecoming. You should watch it on netflix😍💯.
It's been years that there is supposed to be a new Michael Jackson and it never happens, Beyoncé doesn't sell a lot of records and her impact is not even close to Michael Jackson, he is just the best artist of all time.
Not only do you need to react to all her live performances but please react to the Video “Spirit/bigger” from the lion king album. It was beautiful and shows her vocal skills
She also paid tribute to Messy Mya(Anthony Barre) he was the one that said "bitch im back by popular demand" ,Messy Mya was a rapper from New Orleans ,He was most known for the controversy regarding his voice being sampled in Beyoncé's "Formation". Barré was shot & killed leaving his girlfriend's baby shower in November 2010, New Orleans' 7th ward
She said I like my man with that Jackson 5 nostrils bcuz ppl was saying jsyz has big lips and a big nose, the Rock sign they always throw up is supposed to be evil sacrificing ppl to be famous
I really love your reaction.. You will lose your mind if you watch BLACK IS KING! I would love to see you react to OTHERSIDE from Beyonce, on the album THE GIFT. ❤
Isn't that Big Freeda talking in the background in a couple of parts. If you don't know who that is she is a person from Louisiana who is very popular. I like her a lot.
The voice in the beginning of the video and @ 1:57 is a recording from a New Orleans youtuber named Messy Mya. I forgot what year he was murdered but unfortunately his family tried to sue Beyonce for using his voice clips from his old videos
