The whole Lemonade album tells the story of a woman’s journey through her husband’s cheating - from the discovery through anger and depression to forgiveness. This also alludes to Black women’s experience in America across time, also the culture of infidelity that is passed through generations like a Lemonade recipe. The album has so many layers of meaning in it’s lyrics, genres, visuals, and poetry. I would recommend to watch Formation, but it’s best to watch the whole Lemonade film to understand and appreciate that whole body of work.
She's definitely a good artist from what I'm learning so far. Can't wait to hear more. Still feel like an idiot because I didn't know she was in Destiny's Child and I have that song... Thank you for watching and commenting
Sporto SP-01 do her Stevie wonder tribute or her dangerously in love live experience literally rare on RU-vid so y’all will get a lot of looks man y’all will love that she’s considered to be the greatest performer of all time everybody puts her next to Michael. If you do a video do spirit which is the Disney thing
Right and they just now making this video she made the song 4 years ago and they now react to don’t hurt yourself if they wanna educate themselves listen to black parade she made ughhh
Rodney~Łamar 🙄🙄🙄🙄 literally my thought, I feel like people only think of Martin Luther king jr whenever they hear a civil rights/black historical speech
@@maqicool really did 🙄, they swear they know music and what this stuff means but she said "I motivate yo ass call me Malcom X", then proceed to malcom🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄
I've never come across anyone who wasn't familiar with Beyonce's music lol This was interesting to watch. This song is from 2016 so it has nothing to do with Disney. The "God is God, I Am Not" quote is directed to everyone who calls her Beysus (her die hard fans sometimes refers to her as this.) The Malcolm X quote can be confusing for those who didn't watch/listen to this visual album. The whole album was an ode to Black women as well as her own personal journey towards infidelity in her marriage.
nah... the "god is god, i am not" was just so people wouldn't think she was calling herself god when jack white sings "love god herself". it has nothing to do with the beyhive calling her beysus.
@Alara Aba it honestly can have several meanings, but I have seen firsthand, especially on social media, how fans compare her to God/call her "beysus". this was her way of letting us know she doesn't condone it.
Vocally, you won’t find anything better this era. You need to listen to all of Beyoncé. She’s a whole movement so some of her songs are statements like this one. Also, you keep mentioning Disney, she did Disney after this. This is 2016, Disney was 2019. Just research her, you won’t regret it.
As a black woman, professor of black cultural studies, and longtime metal head, I found myself unable to stop watching. Kudos for you for trying to listen to something new! I really wanted to be a guest to walk y'all through everything that's happening here, from the Led Zeppelin drum sample to the Malcolm X speech. I write about this album.
Do more Beyonce so y’all can see how fire she is man she’s incredibly sick man the greatest performer of all time seriously she was always put alongside Michael by everybody including celebrities. Do her Stevie wonder tribute. Like please dive more into her y’all would for sure get me as a subscriber I’m a reactor myself lol love you guys
That “synth” sound you’re hearing is her voice harmonized to give that haunting sound. She utilizes her voice as literal instruments and sound effects all throughout her music and it’s CRAZY. Her signature style itself is basically her voice creating melodies and harmonies in the back to give the songs their structure whereas most mainstream artists rely heavily on the instrumentations and actual key signatures. She does all of that alone with her voice. It’s actually insane the deeper you get into her artistry and how her brain works.
hahaha, oh man, as a Bey Hive member, this is one of the funniest things I've ever seen! Thank you guys for being so open and give it a try. Because let's be honest, I couldn't name a metal type song or band either. xD If you guys still have questions about the video or song, I'll gladly answer! Love!
@@russelstephan6342 right.....it is like saying I don't know Michael Jackson or Elvis.....She has been in our radios for nearly TWENTY years. Who the fuck is Meghan Stalion or her tone. I had to google her I swear when they said they confused her with Beyond. my god.
@@gdaebb9179 they didn't say they didn't know who she was. Just that they couldn't recognize her voice apart from Meghan's. This is extremely reasonable and could apply to MJ and or Elvis too. Ppl need to chill in the comment section
I thought it was funny (I loudly guffawed. Lol) that they were thinking he was riding her coat tails when Jay-Z is the world's first black billionaire AND played a huge part in making rap what it is today. Like, where have you been...
@@KrossKristopher He is not the first black billionaire...lol. I know at least 2 before him and the 2 before aren't the first either. Oprah for one, and the ex-owner of BET.
Please. Please. Take time eventually to react to all of Beyonce's Lemonade. It's an entire story and it's REALLY well done start to finish. It also covers a lot of genres I think you guys would be into her range.
So guys, this album is called Lemonade and it's also visual and this clip is part of the 1 hour film. The film coincides with the story of the couple's betrayal, from the moment the woman finds out she is being betrayed, to separation and forgiveness, but it's not just about Jay-Z's betrayal. This goes along with the black woman's history of struggle, talks about racism. Hence Martin Luther King's quote that says "the most disrespected person in America, is the black woman." During the film, there is also a monologue. It would be interesting if you reacted to each song on the album, the story is all told on it, until you get to Formation, which is where she stands by saying "I just might be a black Bill Gates". It's pretty cool, my favorite album so far. Sorry if I said something wrong, but it's pretty much this.
It's kinda adorable to see you guys figure Beyoncé out. Well - yes she worked with Disney but over the last decade she's become a powerhouse in the industry who releases and works her art the way she wants. And this is from Lemonade - her rawest and most acclaimed album so far. You guys must look it up again
The entire lemonade album is about her experience dealing with her husband’s infidelity. Jay z is probably the richest and most well known rapper alive. He’s older than her. They helped each other with their careers. I recommend Spirit from the lion king soundtrack or sandcastles from lemonade
she added the malcom x speech because she felt like she and other black women weren't being protected by the ones that they are supposed to be protecting since her husband cheated and left her unprotected
Makes sense. Guys really shouldn't be cheating at all. Especially if they've got Beyonce. But, regardless of who they're with. If you say the words and make the promise then you better man up and back it up.
Guys, I recommend that you react to the LEMONADE visual album entirely, so you understand better. The visuals as in this case, does not contain the entire song. The songs last longer, but since this video is taken out of the visual, it is shortened and since it has a lot of interlude of Beyoncé reading poems between each song.
“Love On Top” is an amazing intro to Beyoncé as an artist and it has great vocals too. “Freedom” is another great song off of her album Lemonade, the one that “Don’t Hurt Yourself” is on and it features the rapper Kendrick Lamar. Those two songs would probably be ones that you guys would enjoy, although there’s always “Crazy in Love” or “Déjà Vu” if you want to listen to songs from the beginning of her solo career and those two songs both feature JayZ ;)
I'm not going to lie; I fell out when you said "Dude! This is not the Beyoncé I know". 😂Women (people in general) can be sweet a punch but do them wrong ... the wrath will come out! #oshun #recognize.
The "God is god. I am not" part has two meanings. First fans and people who know about pop culture call her God, and it's a statement to said she is not perfect. Also, religion tells that God will forgive our sins if we regret them but she is not god and not will forgave the cheating that she's talking in the whole album.
Don't hurt yourself is my favorite song by her. Everytime I hear it I get very angry and it is not like I can relate to her (I have never been cheated on, at least not in my knowledge nor am I black). I think this song is so well executed with B's roaring vocals and Jack White's blues rock sound. In a way, for me, it is perfect song, to which I keep coming back even after 4 years. The whole album Lemonade is so beautiful, how it didn't win the Album of the Year, is still beyond me. Well I know for sure it won my heart :)
So it's actually Malcolm X speaking about how black women are the most disrespected women in America. She is saying her husband completely disrespected her by cheating and that this happens to many black women on many, many levels. Just for context and unrelated to her husband's cheating, but still speaking to the disrespect we receive on a daily basis, black women are 5 times more likely to die in childbirth than white women. That's because people don't take us seriously when we say we need help, and we're expected to just deal with complications. We're seen as dramatic and too unintelligent to know what we need, to know how we feel, and we are easily dismissed by others. This is obviously something that needs to change. P.S., Don't let anyone make you feel like bad about not knowing something. The only people who should feel bad are the ones who've resigned from learning anything.
Jay-Z a billionaire his married to Beyoncé she was in destiny’s child . She is almost a billionaire to or maybe already is she is very secretive!! Years ago he cheated on her disrespecting her a black woman ( that’s what the Malcolm X speech is for ) !!! A lot of ppl were surprised she would make a song like this since she is so secretive. Also she did sign a deal with Disney for 3 movies and her first one will be out July 31 ( on her insta feed @beyonce !
lol I loved your reaction - I recommend reacting to more videos from Beyonce's Lemonade which is the album Don't Hurt Yourself came off of. Formation, Freedom, Hold Up - the one thing I give Beyonce credit for is her powerful imagery she uses to express herself - she's an incredible visual artist and an underrated singer in my opinion.
Hey lads this is the first video I've seen of this channel. it's absolutely hilarious but at the same time very honest and not pretentious. Fair play for the open mindedness!
Orrii A. You mean popsy kind of songs? All these songs have replay value. I’m her fan and this is by far my most played album, same for most of the Beyhive.
@@shevegan4302 Lemonade is by far her best album, but after seeing their reaction, I feel like they would like more "popsy" songs. Also, I think Lemonade should be heard altogether on the first listen rather than breaking the songs up
Yes Jay-Z did cheat on her but she released this album after they overcame everything together and he heard the album before she released it I think if you watch the documentary on Vimeo it shows the steps she goes through
It’s hard to understand her video without knowing of her career. People are constantly accusing her fans of treating her like God. She’s saying she’s not God. Great reaction. It’s fun to watch people be surprised at Beyoncé’s creativity these days.
I'm big into classical music, and I have to say that I think Beyonce's "Lemonade" is one of the greatest musical things ever made. Each song flows into the next and has the overall theme of understanding being wronged by someone you trusted and moving on with or without the person who wronged you ("Formation"). Each takes layers of her culture and stacks everything into a form of identity. In this song, what I love is that she's not trying to sound pretty, and she doesn't seem to sing the same lyrics the same way twice. The entire album, I think, is legendary. Songs like this and others on the album even have a bit of fun and humor. I'd just listen to "Lemonade" in its entirety.
This song is from her album Lemonade which is story about Jay Z cheating on her . The album has different emotions this song here is anger! The god is god I am not meaning is how some people refer to her as a god. So she puts god is god she is not. The Song is basically about giving someone 1 more chance if it happens again She’s walking away. You gotta react To the full album to understand
She made an entire visual album about the troubles she was having in her marriage. This song represents her rage at her husband Jay Z when she was tired of his cheating. Beyonce was fed up with everything and was lowkey on the brink of ending her marriage but they worked things out eventually. And OMG I can't believe you guys don't know anything about Jay Z 😲. Look him up he does ALOT and owns a bunch of companies including a music streaming company and a record label. He signed Rihanna, Kanye West, and bunch of other people. He also signed a bunch of athletes to his management company and he even has contracts with the NFL. Jay Z has been in the music industry since the early 90s and is now a Billionaire. Beyonce also owns a few businesses herself including her own record label which she signed the duo group Chloe & Halle to. You guys should react to Beyonce's songs If I Were A Boy, Pretty Hurts, and Drunk In Love ft Jay Z.
this was hilariously adorable watching you guys try to figure this out. beyonce has proven herself to be a very versatile artist with the work she did on lemonade. i recommend yall watch the visual album if you really really wanna understand the context (there's the cheating, the eventual forgiveness, but also a celebration of the intersections of blackness and womanhood). it's one of my favorite albums ever. im glad you guys (who are not her target audience) enjoyed this.
The best version of this song in my opinion is her live version she did at the 2016 VMA’s. Definitely got to check that one out. It’s WAY more rock there.
This was great. Your reactions were so pure and fun. You have good followers they breakdown Beyonce's vocal layering technique which is the underpinnings of her "sound" and visual aesthetic really well.
Shes worked with them in early DC days. She wasn't like a "Raven or Hilary" Disney star but she did work with them. Destinys Child was on Smart Guy and Famous Jett Jackson. She also lended her voice to Proud Family theme song (one of Disneys best haha) with her sister Solange but Beyonce was always guest starring with Destiny's Child not as herself, you can just tell her pops pushed for more screen time for her lol.
Please react to Beyoncé’s homecoming on netflix so you can get to know her better, it’s a great film about her 2018 Coachella performance!!❤️ loved the review guys
i recommend reacting to the entire lemonade short film. it’s her most intimate/personal work to date and talks about her husband’s multiple infidelities.
Sporto asks the right questions. I really enjoy how he connects and uses his acquired knowledge to interpret Beyoncé’s work. It’s really cool to watch-that’s the point of artistry. 🙏🏾
🤦🏾♂️🤣😂I am literally in love with these 2 dudes and their entire journey they went on to understand the meaning of the song. Btw that was Malcolm X guys. American education system has failed so many. Anyway this was so entertaining. Thanks for the laughs 👍🏾 😁
This was very interesting to watch! Didn’t know what to expect out of 2 White, male, metal heads listening to Beyoncé, but this was nice to watch lol. Very cringey at times, but it was nice seeing you two exposure yourselves to new music and information. It was odd that you did not know much about Beyoncé, but I can appreciate the willingness to learn and educate yourselves beyond what you know. I’d recommend watching the entire Lemonade film.
Jack White is all over this song! when you said you did not know Beyonce music I'm with you, when you said you did not know Jack White's music I'm pounding my head against the wall!. I had to wikipedia it, White produced it, written by White, Beyoncé, and Diana Gordon. White is one of the most talented musicians on the planet. I don't know Beyonce music, but she sounded aggressive and good and it had Jack White all over it!
Actually, there's an interview of him where he says it was all Beyonce. He tells that he gave her a sample and she came back with the whole song and concept.
@@diegososea Like I said I'm not all that familiar with Beyonce's music, I was just interested what the connection was with Jack White. Thanks for the info.
😂 Jay Z was already a very famous rapper when he and Beyoncé met on set for a music video. They’ve been the power couple of hip hop for a very long time.
Am so suprised there are actually Americans that dont know shit about beyonce🤣😂🤣 but then again it's refreshing to see reactions from people who dont love or hate her just genuine.
I’m a loyal Hive member and this is one of my favorite videos now. I love the fact that y’all are expanding to learn more about other artists and it’s so interesting to see people piece together this one song from the album/visual from one of the most famous women in the world. I love love love it. And since you challenged, I’m off to listen to a Slayer song (going in blind) and going to learn more about Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman! Thank you both!
Good evening fellaz!! I just came across u guys and appreciated guys for wanting the education on what you're reacting to. First, Beyonce was the lead singer from Destiny's Child, one of their biggest hits was SAY MY NAME . Beyonce went solo in 2003 with her megahit CRAZY IN LOVE FT JAY Z...They've been together since 2002 and married in 2008. Beyonce has 6 solo albums.., DANGEROUSLY IN LOVE, B'DAY, I AM...SASHA FIERCE, 4, BEYONCE, LEMONADE Her live performances, concerts/tours is where you really get to appreciate her craft as an artist. Now, imma give y'all the benefit of the doubt in not knowing who Malcolm X was but that was not Dr Martin Luther King Jr...so for that, imma need for y'all to research him, The Nation of Islam and The Hon. Elijah Muhammad.....read Malcolm X's autobiography BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY and watch Spike Lee's 1993 film MALCOLM X "THE BLACK WOMAN IS THE MOST DISRESPECTED WOMAN IN AMERICA" is derived from the atrocious actions of slavery, followed by the practices of Jim Crow laws and the affects of today where as Black woman are disregarded through everything . Appreciate you guys tho
Omg!!!! Watching this in 2020, it’s hilarious to watch y’al try to figure out what’s going on. LMAO!!!! And that wasn’t Dr. Martin Luther King jr. It was Malcolm X. The clip was Malcolm taking about the blk woman being disrespected and unprotected in America and she’s equating that to her being disrespected and unprotected in her marriage. Jay-Z is her husband, he’s a billionaire Mogul/ businessMan/ rapper. And her level of Pissacity has nothing to do with Disney.
This song is from Lemonade, which came out in 2016. The Gift (the Lion King album) came out in 2018. Her contract for the Lion King hasn’t been fulfilled. She’s releasing a film/visual album for it...the trailer came out a week ago. It’s a love letter to black people and Africa
Yall really have to go through a full catalog of her music and performances yall should start from the beginning of her career with destiny's child to her solo career up on into now yall would get alot of views watching her stuff and reacting about it btw!...also she has such a wide range of music and performances in case yall didn't know she's been in the public 👁 singing and performing since 1998 since.
You guys came up on my recommendations and I’m absolutely glad!!!! Beyoncé is a great artist!!!! So the album spoke about the infidelities that she faced with her husband Jay-Z. The quote that she used was actually from Malcolm X. If you like this song review- 6inch heels by Beyoncé. So Jay-Z and Beyoncé came into the industry separately and made a name for themselves... no one had ride anyone’s coat tail. But I’m glad that you guys researched the song guys!
True Beyoncé fan here...I enjoyed watching you guys try to figure it out. It was great. Excellent job. The whole album is EVERYTHING!!!!!!! it chronicles her transition from being cheated on, to learning to forgive her husband. Relatable all around. Thanks guys!!!!
I really appreciate your genuine interest in learning something new, and would like to see your responses to the comments below... also to Hamilton the Musical, please... thanks for sharing!
