It's off her Lemonade album. The Dixie Chicks loved it so much that they started covering it on their concert tour. Beyonce heard about it and loved it, because she was a Dixie Chicks fan...seeing as they too are Texas girls like herself. When the CMA's contacted Beyoncé to ask if she'd perform it at the 50th Anniversary special, Beyoncé had a condition that the Dixie chicks had to have their ban lifted and perform it with her. She is very big on woman empowerment., and sharing her strength and influence to uplift them if she can. They haven't been invited there since they criticized Bush Jr. for his presidency. They got together and did a pre recording of them doing the song, so right after the show aired, Beyoncé released the stream of it so people could buy and upload it right away. It doesn't sound exactly like how they did it on stage, but it was still a hit. The CMA's took this performance down on their website because too many people were leaving racists and bigoted comments about her performing country on "their show". Instead of respecting the talent THEY(CMA's) invited, by shutting off the comments section and leaving the performance on the site, they claimed that Beyoncé called them and told them to take it down so it wouldn't cause controversy. I think that was a lie. If they asked her on the show for ratings....cuz let's face it, if you put her on your show, her fans will watch and your ratings skyrocket....then they should have had her back and the Dixie Chicks. It was their highest rating CMA show. None the less, Beyonce got her money and advertisement for new fans that didn't even know about that song. The dress she wore was a tribute to Loretta Lynn's earlier days of fame when she wore a dress in the same design cut. But this is Beyonce, so you know she had to be flashy and have it see through and jeweled up. Lol She was also paying tribute to her own country roots, as a Texan. Country music was founded in R&B (rhythm and blues), gospel and negro spirituals. But country music listeners today want to ignore that fact and deny it. The Dixie Chicks posted about what the CMA'S did to their performance and Natalie said that she "didn't care, because they got to live out one of their dreams of performing with Beyonce...and they did it on the CMA'S dime. So ha ha!" To my understanding they vowed to never come back to the CMA'S again after this happened.
This performance was very controversial and was even removed from the network's site at some point. It's a shame the amount of hate and negativity that exists in the world
Whaaaaaat?! I talked about this in another video - but how is there supposed to be inspiration and fresh music with hard roots if we hide it all 😔 glad we can enjoy this together, though!
What I never knew that, it’s just sad what is so controversial about this anywho they can’t take away the fact that they killed that performance so 🤷🏽♀️
@@dekaibrahim6749 The Dixies were banned from the country scenes then Beyoncé brought them back. They were mad at that and the fact that Beyoncé was swinging her hips
@Deka Ibrahim they were also upset that this isn't Beyoncé's genre and they didn't want this song/Her being submitted as a country music contender. Her being black also aligning herself politically with democrats didn't help.
Beyonce's "Lemonade" album is absolutely phenomenal, start to finish. And if you're into cinematography, the visual album is a must. I have mad respect for The Chicks, but "Daddy Lessons" is a Beyonce jam.
Speaking of Banjo.... The Banjo Was Originally a West African Instrument banjo, stringed musical instrument of African origin, popularized in the United States by slaves in the 19th century, then exported to Europe. Several African stringed instruments have similar names-e.g., bania, banju.
I remember how many ppl she pissed off on that night. She showed up and did “their” genre better 😂😂 They couldn’t handle it! Beyoncé just simply didn’t give a f*ck. Queen things!
Lol that was not what people were pissed about at all. It was that she brought out the Dixie Chicks in the performance. The Dixie Chicks were blacklisted because they went public against Bush. And when Beyonce had them on, and here of all places, conservative asshats were not pleased.
Daddy lessons is a song that Beyonce wrote and the Dixie Chicks used to sing it when they were on tour, the CMAs only wanted Beyoncé to perform the song, she said she would do it only, if the Dixie chicks did it with her.
@@feliciasanders2066 Out of curiosity, why do people like you always have to try and dim someone’s light or try and point out any flaws when someone (who btw you don’t even know and doesn’t affect your life) gets complimented? What do you gain from this negativity?
This is mind blowing- I have been a Dixie Chicks fan since I went to a county fair to see them when “There’s Your Trouble,” was a single. Never stopped listening and was elated when they had a come back. They are unmatched in their talent. On the flip side, I wasn’t a huge fan of Beyoncé at this point. Absolutely nothing against her- I just never listened to radio and it took years for me to catch up on pop music. She’s got a beautiful voice, and I know i had watched her preform prior to this- just wasn’t as familiar…. Let me tell you: A. She single handedly made the CMA allow Dixie Chicks back on the stage (I still have slight anger that they were black listed ever- now a days they would be celebrated, but I digress). Beyoncé is a fan- loved their cover of her own song- and used it to help bolster them back! B. B and the Dixie Chicks are all what country music is made of- mixing their styles and harmonies is just mind blowing- this song is stunning in itself! I grew to really respect Beyoncé after this! I hated what people did, especially the removal of the video from the site. I didn’t even understand- Music should unite us all- Dear Lord, this performance gave me chills and helped me see that people of completely different upbringings/ views, whatever- you UNITE OVER PREFORMING AMAZING MUSIC. I lost respect for CMA for giving on to historically ignorant members of this genre. Get over themselves, put a blind fold on and just enjoy this amazing music!!! PS. Dear DC AND B- tour? Omg you’d outsell Taylor!
I forgot how amazing this performance was and I'm not a country fan. The vocals, harmonies, arrangement, production. Sadly I remember seeing so much hate towards this collab because Beyonce was invited to perform. Ironically this was the most country I've heard in a long time, even within country music.
There is a lot going on here that has nothing to do with music. A few years before This performance the dixie chicks were excommunico from The continental. At the beginning you can feel the audience's resistance to their presence. But by the endyou could not deny the music. As a matter of fact , there are several people just standing looking around in disbelief that the people were having such a good time. I like the dixie chicks I think that's one of the best girl groups ever. This performance was coachella on a hayride. There is so much gospel and r and b influence , but it was still very much country. This is one of my favorite things ever.
This is Beyonce's song, not the Chicks. When she released Lemonade, the Chicks covered it at one of their venues and that's how they came together to do this performance. Alsol, it's still not against the law to actually do research to learn more about the music you're reacting to. It would actually enhance your reactions for the better.
From what I head read Beyonce said she would not perform unless she could perform with The Chicks which I love since the country music industry basically cancelled The Chicks.
I was listening to The Chicks on Apple Music and I listened to this single and it blown me away, it is powerful and I did got chills while listening. I can’t believe the CMA had black listed The Chicks because of something that happened so long ago. Get over it, for fuck’s sake!! Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
You should check out Beyoncé Love on Top performance at the VMA’s. Her vocals and choreography were amazing. And she was secretly 2 months pregnant while performing.
I absolutely hate this performance. Period. They didn't deserve to see it, they don't deserve the greatness and vocal prowess of beyonce or miss Natalie Maines. The hate they received after this further proves the racism they claim doesn't exist. Beyonce and The Chicks killed this shit
huh? … girl ain’t nobody talking to you 🤣 anyways… i’m THAT confident that you will thoroughly enjoy Beyoncé! i love how detailed your reactions are so i would love to see you break down some Beyoncé!
Please react to Beyonce sex on fire/beautiful ones live performance you won't be disappointed and the band will blow your mind. Ps. Hey was pregnant at the time as well
I did 2 lives ones from the record for my Patreon! Goosebumps the whole time. I was banging my head so hard I literally cracked my neck LOL. Working w RU-vid to try and get them up here 😁 thanks for watching!!
I so disagree. JT and Chris, both killed those songs together and I definitely preferred them over this collab. I normally like the Dixie Chicks but not this performance.
